........to not feel happy about children posting on here?

Just that really.

I thought this was an 'adult' site.

Kids posting makes me feel rather uncomfortable.

I have replied to a 'child' on another post, although something tells me that it isn't really a kid posting. Which also feels not right. :(

Cedric’s mother is on Mumsnet!

Or possibly their other persona?

See this is how MNHQ's hands must sometime's be tied. Two NN's showing up with the same IP, probably means they have to give the benefit of doubt.

yaela123 · 15/02/2018 20:25

Children shouldn't be on the internet unsupervised, 14 yr olds, really?

Sparklingbrook · 15/02/2018 20:25

Any children on here can have a good read of the Sex Topic. Very educational.

PurpleDaisies · 15/02/2018 20:27

I agree that there’s generally no need to announce your age unless you’re looking for a reaction.

I’m suspicious of people saying they’re very young, and also things like “man here” etc..,

CaptainCardamom · 15/02/2018 20:27

14 isn't a child, though not an adult either. A child in a legal sense, but ask most 14yos if they are a child and I don't think they'll agree. It's an age where you very much need information and advice about any number of hair-raising topics.

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 15/02/2018 20:28

When have children posted on here? Confused

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 15/02/2018 20:28

Coedyn, with respect, you could be anybody too. If you are the person's parent, why do they need advice here? Confused

This isn't a site for children. Regardless of swearing or topic content, why do children have to be 'everywhere'? You sound almost proud of a 12 year old encroaching on an adult chatboard...

I'll now be just presuming everybody's a hairy-handed trucker called 'Dave'. Perhaps that's easier.

Sparklingbrook · 15/02/2018 20:28

Yes 14 is an age where you might need information. In RL from trusted people with qualifications that know what they are doing.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 15/02/2018 20:28

Hmm. That Amy one was 16 or so wasn't she? Allegedly.

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 15/02/2018 20:29

InAmechange, a 14 year old wanting advice about there baby would be surrounded by health visitors / social workers; they really wouldn't have to resort to Mumsnet. Particularly when the query was about shoes / toilets...
It's always bloody toilets Hmm

Lilymossflower · 15/02/2018 20:29

I'm 19 does this make me a child too ?
Even though I am also a mother

TBH I think 14 is fine
It's teen and not child

Maryz · 15/02/2018 20:29

I missed CoedynSbageti's posts.

Oh well, I suppose some people don' t mind what their 13/14 year olds do online, but that really isn't the point. I don't think posters should have to self-censor in any way in case younger teenagers are reading, so It might be useful for mnhq to say whether or not they are allowed to post, and if so at what age.

FlibbertyGiblets · 15/02/2018 20:30

Oh too weird for me.
Cedric/CoedynSbageti, daughter and Mummy combo.

I'm out.

exWifebeginsat40 · 15/02/2018 20:31

everyone on the internet is a 45 year old trucker called Dave. even me. think on.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 15/02/2018 20:31

yy Worra. It's weird. If the other thread was above board why has it been deleted?

Best delete both IPs then since the parent has no control of the child and doesn't care.

LuxuryTime · 15/02/2018 20:31

I’m getting altogether sick of the intolerance and exclusivity on here. You can’t be gay, or a child, or trans, or a man, or not actually a mother, or younger than average etc etc

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 15/02/2018 20:32

So the alleged 14 year old and her mother are both on this thread?
There are more actors on this site than the Theatre Royal.

Coconutspongexo · 15/02/2018 20:32

Why would you be a child at 19...

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 15/02/2018 20:33

Bollocks Luxury.

Wallywobbles · 15/02/2018 20:33

My eldest DD has posted on a thread about a child of an abusive parent because it was relevant advice that she could give to a parent of a child of a similar age as her. The poster thanked her for her perspective. And offer of help.

Im always posing moral dilemmas from mn to my kids. There's perspectives are interesting. Although they tend to verge on fairly intolerant like most teens I suspect.

Id rather they didn't post their own threads just yet but the likelihood of them being future users is bloody huge.

exWifebeginsat40 · 15/02/2018 20:33

hee @lyingwitchinthewardrobe. textbook cross-post.

Sparklingbrook · 15/02/2018 20:33

I think adults start at 18 don't they?

VioletCharlotte · 15/02/2018 20:35

I'm bemused why people think teenagers shouldn't be allowed on here because of the nature of discussions/ language used.

MN is an open site, so even if they weren't allowed to post, they would still be able to read everything. As can anyone with access to the internet.

I think some people forget MN isn't a cosy little club that's hidden from the rest of the world!

CaptainCardamom · 15/02/2018 20:35

Yes 14 is an age where you might need information. In RL from trusted people with qualifications that know what they are doing.

Agreed but many teenagers are too scared to ask the things they need to know in RL. A lot of kids these days get sex education from (nice, positive) youtubers for example, and it's more helpful that a lot of "RL" sources.

If a 14yo wants some advice on things like sexism, gender issues, and how to combat men being allowed to invade female spaces then there is lots of good advice on here. And any 14yo can read it anyway, even if they don't actually post.

Sparklingbrook · 15/02/2018 20:36

I am not sure about that Captain.
