Pancakes for tea or a dessert

Settle a minor major! disagreement please.

Is it acceptable to have pancakes only as the main meal tomorrow night or should it be a main meal then pancakes as dessert?

Whichever has the most votes for we will do I am cooking and will do whatever I want anyway Grin

Yes Hunting that is exactly what I mean by pancake soup.
Its broth and thin strips of pancake instead of vermicelli. I was dubious the first time we made it but the kids love it!!

SuperBeagle · 13/02/2018 00:59

Pancakes are only ever a breakfast/brunch food in Australia.

Also, we don't do Pancake Tuesday. Grin

Which is fine because I hate pancakes

Gearing up for round one of pancakes...
Scotch style with jam and butter for breakfast

Ours are for tonight. But we are having crispy duck with pancakes (Chinese proper ones!) then regular pancakes (lemon and sugar or grim nigella for dc).

Upsy1981 · 13/02/2018 08:37

On Shrove Tuesday, my mum always used to do something quick, beans on toast etc and then as many pancakes as you wanted so best of both really.

FoofFighter · 13/02/2018 09:05

Right breakfast done, am going to try an enchiladas type thing for tea, filling them with chilli then rolling up like cannelloni and baking. I'm normally of the opinion that it's (sweet) pancakes only for tea so this is a first!
Will do thin ones with lemon and sugar for dessert.

Pancakes for EVERY meal - it's pancake day, not pancake evening!

FoofFighter · 13/02/2018 09:20

@BadPolicy I don't know why that thought had never occurred to me before Blush

Wve just had fluffy pancakes (yoghurt rather than milk) with bacon and maple syrup for breakfast. 'Normal' pancakes will be consumed after dinner with lemon and sugar/ choc spread etc. I would go for savoury pancakes for dinner but no one else is keen.

Stmoritz · 13/02/2018 09:53

You have to have savoury pancakes for the main meal then sweet pancakes for dessert. Last year I discovered dark chocolate and lime juice as a combination - incredible. Basically you have to stuff yourself with as many pancakes as possible so that you can’t face them again for a whole year.

dkb15164 · 13/02/2018 10:17

Pancakes for main of course. Totally counts a meal if it's for a holiday.Halo

HarmlessChap · 13/02/2018 10:46

Not my favourite day TBH, DW "loves it" but generally ends up stressy about the whole thing. 2 years ago I did a half hour round trip to Tesco just to get a new frying pan, just to keep the peace; she'd gotten into a major hissy fit as our non stick pan had lost most of its non stick and the pancakes were all being ruined!

Usually I would be cooking on a Tuesday but DW is insisting on doing it herself, probably as I would cook a proper main and just have pancakes for pudding. TBH I would be OK with savour pancakes but that's not allowed, apparently, she thinks sweet pancakes are all we should have.

2 sweet ones is all I'll want any more than that is too sickly for me. I'll clean the kitchen once she's finished then make myself some dinner and no doubt be berated for not getting into the spirit of it.

GeekyWombat · 13/02/2018 10:48

We’re doing pancakes for lunch - mostly so I have time to clean up the flour once the toddlers have helped me make the batter...

FlapJackered · 13/02/2018 11:17

We do pancakes for main and dessert. I am planning pulled pork filling with tomato salsa/sauce, grated cheese and salad it's yummy!! Then sweet pancakes for pudding.

abitoflight · 13/02/2018 11:41

Only sweet ones here
And yes - they are the only thing on offer.
DH when I was first with him was 😳 at only pancakes for dinner but got used to it pretty fast when realised non negotiable
It's what happened when I was little and my dad was a manual worker and he was happy with it so I reckon my DH won't get malnutrition

0nTheEdge · 13/02/2018 11:55

Main meal for me but DH moans as thinks should be dessert only. He can make his own main then, I'll suggest beans on toast! Or tell him to have some savoury ones for main, like cheese and jalapenos. Mmm.

FoofFighter · 13/02/2018 12:04

Only taken 10 years but finally made a DOTD :D

I shall celebrate with an extra pancake

So what was your final decision Foof and what toppings are you having?

Also can we have some pancake porn pics? Not having ours until tonight and v jealous of everyone's thus far...pics would clearly not help my envy!

FoofFighter · 13/02/2018 12:50

Had scotch style with butter and jam already (peanut butter and chocolate spread for dc)
Going to make enchiladas using pancakes instead of wraps, and thin crepes with lemon and sugar for pudding. Wouldn't normally make a main at all, just pig out on pnacakes - so giving it a try but including pancakes of course!

No pics as yet, didn't last long enough Blush

Oooh sounding like a proper Pancake Day chez Foof ... yum! Smile

blinkineckmum · 13/02/2018 12:55

Main meal. It's eggs, flour and milk. Perfect for toddlers.

ItsNachoCheese · 13/02/2018 14:49

I cheated and got pancakes out of asda yesterday. I saved myself so much stress and mess 😂

Sallystyle · 13/02/2018 15:03

We have them for tea.

phoenix1973 · 13/02/2018 15:07

Well today we had a 5 item breakfast for starters then pancakes for desert. 🐷🐷Before 12:00 at the garden centre cafe. 😆So I suppose that's pudding then.
At home, it's instead of an evening meal.
