Settle a minor major! disagreement please.

Is it acceptable to have pancakes only as the main meal tomorrow night or should it be a main meal then pancakes as dessert?

Whichever has the most votes for we will do I am cooking and will do whatever I want anyway Grin

We'll be having pancakes as our main meal tomorrow. Dh will probably full his with left over Bolognese, but the dds and I will have Nutella or lemon and sugar because that's the best way. I might even put some ice-cream on mine.

Pancake Day (shrove Tuesday) is about using up all the nice things in your larder before the fasting of Lent. So all pancakes should be filled with anything lovely that you fancy, so it's all gone before Lent. I don't give anything up for Lent any more, but I do love the gluttony of eating anything I want in a pancake on shrove Tuesday.

HoneyDragon · 12/02/2018 19:40

On pancake day main meal. Particularly as 3 teens plus small will mean I’m chained to the stove Hmm

Mamabear14 · 12/02/2018 19:40

Pancakes for tea! Lots of them. With sugar and lemon and nutella and banana. I struggle with the idea of savoury pancakes. It is WRONG in my little head.

trumptown · 12/02/2018 19:41

The DCs have them for dinner on Pancake Day. With whatever they want as toppings. Usually Nutella, bananas, raspberries, squirty cream (the only day of the year I will agree to buy it!), ice cream - not all at once! Pancakes aren't especially unhealthy in themselves - flour, milk, eggs....so at least they are getting most of the main food groups in there even if they are smothered in sugary crap. It's only one day a year though.

Nomorechickens · 12/02/2018 19:41

Pancakes only! Savoury then sweet. It's pancake day! That's what you do! It's the law.

TheSassyAssassin · 12/02/2018 19:41

Pancakes for dinner full-stop. All sweet (lemon & sugar; vanilla ice-cream, banana & maple syrup; and nutella & strawberries). Can't wait! Grin

Greensleeves · 12/02/2018 19:42

Bacon and cheese, followed by lemon and sugar.

RedHelenB · 12/02/2018 19:42

On shove Tuesday it's pancakes for tea as many as you can eat! Tha ts the rule!

FoofFighter · 12/02/2018 19:44

Ooh Bolognese filled pancakes sound rather nice

Both, obviously. And don't forget pancakes for breakfast and lunch too.

You can ring the changes by having some of them be thin french-style crepes, some thick American ones made with buttermilk, and some potato pancakes, if you want variety.

UnimaginativeUsername · 12/02/2018 19:46

I usually do savoury crepes for dinner, with scotch pancakes with fruit and chocolate for pudding.

DS2 would be delighted with American breakfast pancakes with bacon and eggs for dinner.

reluctantbrit · 12/02/2018 19:46

We have pancake for breakfast and later for dinner tomorrow. Not for lunch as DD is not at home during the day.

We often do pancakes for lunch at weekends, we are Germans and it is perfectly acceptable to eat a huge pancake (full pan size) with fruit like blueberries or apples or plain with jam for lunch. Yummy.

DreamyMcDreamy · 12/02/2018 19:48

Me and dh have this problem. He whines if it's the main meal, I tell him to shut up feckin moaning get a grip or make himself something if he's still hungry.
It's PANCAKE DAY - PANCAKES ARE the main meal!

DwangelaForever · 12/02/2018 19:51

I just have pancakes for a snack after dinner time (I eat mine with butter so can't really call them dessert)

JellyBabiesSaveLives · 12/02/2018 19:53

Well its ds1’s birthday tomorrow. And he has requested chicken nuggets and chips for tea, so it’ll be pancakes for dessert.

But I’m liking the idea of pancakes for breakfast and lunch, too. It’s quite nice having Shrove Tuesday fall in half-term.

Sparkletastic · 12/02/2018 19:54

DH and DD1 are off out so DD2 and I have already agreed that we shall be creating Nigella American pancakes with bacon and maple syrup. And then maybe some with Nutella for pudding Blush

HamishBamish · 12/02/2018 19:55

Pancakes generally sweet for us, but I do occasionally do buckwheat pancakes with a ham and cheese filling for DS2 after swimming. They are quite quick, but give a top up before he goes to bed. Tomorrrow we will have pancakes for breakfast with bananas and maple syrup for breakfast, then more for pudding later on with lemon juice and sugar (my favourite!).

unenthusiasticfuturedancemom · 12/02/2018 19:56

Just pancakes, with whatever topping anyone wants.

I'm pretty sure the world keeps turning if you just have pudding for dinner.

This somehow feels like a 'don't leave the clothes on the line overnight or you'll get dark on them' thing.

MincemeatTart · 12/02/2018 19:58

Pancakes for supper until they explode. Lemon and sugar only.
We’ve tried other things but returned to the traditional, simple version.

YearOfYouRemember · 12/02/2018 20:00

Pancake Tuesday = pancakes for the meal with other food available later if kids are hungry again. Having said that, I forgot the date and am doing roast chicken but will make pancakes as pudding if asked.

SenecaFalls · 12/02/2018 20:01

I'm in the US; it's full-on American pancakes with choice of bacon or sausage. It's dinner.

HobnobBob · 12/02/2018 20:02

Tomorrow is my birthday! On pancake day!

I’m quite excited. Grin

nokidshere · 12/02/2018 20:03

I usually make a huge pile of pancakes and put out a variety of sweet and savoury toppings. The children eat whatever they want - sometimes they have sweet and savoury on the same pancake yuk

MillyTantTerf · 12/02/2018 20:03

We love pancakes. Main meal for us. Think of the pancake houses in Vancouver where they can be savoury or sweet. Advantage of being quick and comforting especially when there's not much in the fridge or it's really healthy and needs preparation

lalaloopyhead · 12/02/2018 20:05

Pancakes only - its Pancake Day!!

I made some on Sunday after dinner and everyone could only manage one. The whole point is to eat as many as possible surely??
