Pancakes for tea or a dessert

Settle a minor major! disagreement please.

Is it acceptable to have pancakes only as the main meal tomorrow night or should it be a main meal then pancakes as dessert?

Whichever has the most votes for we will do I am cooking and will do whatever I want anyway Grin

Just pancakes but loads for tea! Obviously!

Sgtmajormummy · 12/02/2018 22:55

In the evening. Two savoury (cold cuts and soft cheese) and one sweet (jam or Nutella).
We have two frying pans and a crêpier on the go for four of us, otherwise somebody’s waiting too long. I make batter with 3 litres of milk which always seems loads but there are plenty of volunteers both to cook and eat. That little T-shaped spatula is a great help for thinning out your pancakes.
Lemon and sugar are always available but they feel a bit like a waste of labour...

Dessert

DreamyMcDreamy · 12/02/2018 23:17

God, main meal. Even if slathered in Nutella. Otherwise you have to cook and THEN do pancakes. There is surely some law against this...

Exactly! DH is of the mindset pancakes is a mere snack, I'm like pancakes IS tea. As in the main meal.
If you're still hungry, you're not doing it right. Get more pancakes down yer neck.

ShottaSherrif · 12/02/2018 23:21

Definitely for dessert here. Light and easy main meal (salad based) followed by crepe style pancakes - at least one sugar and lemon classic and one smothered in chocolate sauce with strawberries. That’s my plan anyway!

Notso · 12/02/2018 23:34

It's known as beans on toast day in our house because DH thinks pancakes are a pudding but I refuse to cook anything else on pancake day because IT'S PANCAKE DAY so he makes himself beans on toast.

Springtrolls that's known as pansagne in our house, we have it quite often. I've only cooked it once on actual pancake day though and we were too full to eat the sweet ones.

theymademejoin · 12/02/2018 23:40

A 3 course pancake meal here. Savoury pancakes (mushrooms, ham and cheese), followed by sugar and lemon and finally, dessert with Nutella and ice-cream.

Huntinginthedark · 12/02/2018 23:43

Pancakes stuffed with spinach and cheese baked with tomato sauce
Then lemon and sugar.
YUM

SleightOfMind · 12/02/2018 23:44

Google savoury crepes for mains then American style pancakes for pud.

lancaster · 12/02/2018 23:44

Pancakes for tea. All sweet.

Waddlelikeapenguin · 12/02/2018 23:48

In this house it's drop scones for breakfast, crepes for lunch & american pancakes for dinner. Lucky it's only once a year!

PurpleDaisies · 12/02/2018 23:50

Another vote for three course meal.

SadieHH · 12/02/2018 23:56

It’s at times like this that I wonder why the hell I married a man obsessed with healthy eating. He’ll gobble up pancakes for pudding but would freak in a very bad tempered way if I tried to suggest that no ‘proper’ main meal was had. He hates takeaways and complains bitterly if anything less than whole grain enters the house. It’s quite wearing on days like this.

SleepingStandingUp · 12/02/2018 23:56

Supper

BrickInTheWall · 12/02/2018 23:59

3 course pancake meal.
Starters - pancake soup
Main - ham and cheese or chicken and cheese, roll put in Pyrex pour over eggy mixture and bake. Yum
Dessert - whatever you want. Usually lemon and sugar or icecream and chocolate sauce or rolled with jam/maple syrup.

Mmmm.. can't wait!! 😋

honeyrider · 13/02/2018 00:11

Pancakes are dinner in my house, if fact I'll be having pancakes made using porridge oats with fruit and yogurt for breakfast, lunch will be ham and cheese stuffed pancakes, dinner will be seafood crepes followed by pancakes with nutella, strawberries and ice cream, some topped with lemon and sugar.

Huntinginthedark · 13/02/2018 00:12

Pancake soup
WTF IS THIS WITCHERY

MiddleClassProblem · 13/02/2018 00:14

Pancake soup? PANCAKE SOUP!?!

tillytrotter1 · 13/02/2018 00:15

Seafood pancakes followed by ice cream and chocolate sauce pancakes to follow.

BoomBoomsCousin · 13/02/2018 00:17

Token Savory pancake, then lots of sweet ones. But it has to be the whole meal, or it’s just a midweek pudding, which in our house isn’t that common but it’s not how we celebrate.

Muddlingalongalone · 13/02/2018 00:17

Both of course - cheese and ham, then sweet.
Since dds are with exh I am hoping the canteen make them at work tomorrow coz CBA for 1

franktheskank · 13/02/2018 00:17

We have American style ones with egg, sausage, bacon and syrup then crepes with Nutella and banana for pudding.

I make pancakes or crepes for breakfast a few times a week though so it's not a big deal in our house.

Huntinginthedark · 13/02/2018 00:20

I’ve just found pancake soup
It had to be German!

Loonoon · 13/02/2018 00:27

DC have flown the nest now but pancake day was a day when normal rules went out the window. Dinner/supper/tea was as many pancakes as they could manage all topped with sweet fillings including but not limited to, honey, sugar and lemon, Nutella, jam, golden syrup, lemon curd and bananas. At the end of that mammoth cooking session I would have to wash my hair to dispel the smell of hot butter.

Incidentally, I was asked to cook for a gathering of clergymen today. It was suggested I cook fresh pancakes as a dessert for 20+ people. I laughed in their face and we are having cheesecake instead.

lilabet2 · 13/02/2018 00:33

Either or both! Galettes (savoury french pancakes) for main and crepes for dessert?! We usually have them for pudding but with veg/fruit and a glass of juice (or some milk if you're not having anything protein-y) then it's a complete meal!
