Won't give me another wheelie bin...

Bins here are collected weekly. EVERY Sunday without fail my wheelie bin is full. (There collected Thursday) several times local cats (I believe) have managed to get the bags out the wheelie bin as they are open with the bags on top because they are over flowing. Anyway these cats will rip out all my rubbish so the garden will be covered. I called the council and asked for another wheelie bin as several neighbours have more than one of the same colour top bins. I was told I wasn't allowed another one and the ones the neighbours had were "obviously stolen!" Aibu to not see why I can't have another one. And before any one suggests I recycle more I do I recycle everything that can be and I have no car to go to a tip.

Sounds like your neighbours may be adding to it.

gamerchick · 11/02/2018 15:56

You can’t steal someone else’s bin, appalling thinking! Hmm we have to buy one when ours go missing unless they’ve fell in the lorry.

How about overhauling your rubbish and get a magnetic wheels bin lock so nobody can use your bin instead?

I’m another who can’t believe your bin is overflowing every week. Our bin is collected fortnightly and it’s only ever full to the brim if I’ve been having a clear out.

Do you have three children in nappies?

ThisLittleKitty · 11/02/2018 15:57

Full size. Well saying it is stolen is better than actually stealing one surely?! The rubbish is still going to be there whether they give me a new bin or not. Better it go in a bin rather than dumped somewhere (I don't do this but can see why people have no choice)

Is it one this size?

OP are you not seeing the posts about reducing your waste?

LoudBatPerson · 11/02/2018 15:58

Why not reduce the amount of rubbish you produce rather than lie to get a second bin, which surely will be noticed by the bin men unless your address is noted as having an extra in allocation.

Filling a wheely bin in 4 days for a normal size family is fairly ridiculous.

Chienrouge · 11/02/2018 15:58

Ours are fortnightly collections and it’s never full... family of four. How are you generating so much waste??

WonderLime · 11/02/2018 15:58

I'm actually really angry that you are making so much rubbish each week. What do you think happens with all that rubbish? I thought it was normal for rubbish to be collected fortnightly and I could understand if it that was difficult with one bin, but weekly?

There are always ways to decrease household waste and instead of lying to get a second bin. I suggest you look into that instead.

Janleverton · 11/02/2018 15:58

Use the green food waste bin then. That will help.

Notso · 11/02/2018 15:58

Use the food waste bin, recycle more and take extra bin bags to the tip.

littlepeas · 11/02/2018 15:58

Urgh.

PuppyMonkey · 11/02/2018 15:59

You have a food waste bin but don’t use it? How come?

ThisLittleKitty · 11/02/2018 15:59

Ofcourse im embarrassed! Especially when the rubbish is strewn all over the garden hence why I'm asking for a new bin!

OP posts:
gamerchick · 11/02/2018 15:59

And if they council say you have to pay for another one? Ours does, 60 odd quid for a new bin.

Use your food waste bin for starters and overhaul your rubbish. Honestly ours is collected fortnightly and we manage not to fill it up in a few days.

picklemepopcorn · 11/02/2018 15:59

Can you not reduce your waste? Buy less, buy things with less packaging, recycle more etc? What is your bin filling with? We have a small wheelie bin in our area, which has to last a family of five a fortnight.

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 11/02/2018 15:59

Do you stand on the rubbish to squash it down? You’d be amazed how much air is in those bags and takes up space. Make sure all the air is out of the bags when you’re putting them in the bin and when you do put them in grab a chair and climb into the bin and give it a good stomp to squish it all down. Wear old shoes just incase the bag bursts.

greathat · 11/02/2018 15:59

Where the hell is all your rubbish coming from. Family of 4 here, fortnightly collection. Never full

I don't use the food waste bin as the thought of a bin in my house dedicated to just old food makes me feel abit sick.

Don’t be ridiculous. It’s no different to putting it in a kitchen bin.

AtSea1979 · 11/02/2018 16:01

We have a garden waste bin but are not allowed to put food waste in it, that has to go in normal bin. Though we don’t have much food waste anyway.
