Won't give me another wheelie bin...

Bins here are collected weekly. EVERY Sunday without fail my wheelie bin is full. (There collected Thursday) several times local cats (I believe) have managed to get the bags out the wheelie bin as they are open with the bags on top because they are over flowing. Anyway these cats will rip out all my rubbish so the garden will be covered. I called the council and asked for another wheelie bin as several neighbours have more than one of the same colour top bins. I was told I wasn't allowed another one and the ones the neighbours had were "obviously stolen!" Aibu to not see why I can't have another one. And before any one suggests I recycle more I do I recycle everything that can be and I have no car to go to a tip.

Our black bin is taken MONTHLY. You really really need to look at what you're recycling and composting!!! To be that far over your bin in a week is crazy.

IncyWincyGrownUp · 11/02/2018 21:55

Casper ours are happy for the boxes to be full of other recycling stuff too. You’re just not permitted to go over your general waste limit of one binful per fortnight. My son is incontinent, and his continence products come in nice rigid cardboard boxes which are ace at Christmas for shredding all the extra card and paper into.

posypie · 11/02/2018 22:19

We have 2 black bins and 2 green bins, collected fortnightly- mine are always full! I don't actively squish down though.

posypie · 11/02/2018 22:21

I also wash clothes after one wear! Not jeans or skirts but everything else.

MyKingdomForBrie · 11/02/2018 22:31

Are you proud of those things posy ?! I wouldn’t be boasting about creating so much waste and using excess resources.

ThisLittleKitty · 11/02/2018 22:31

(the council will get annoyed if you keep putting recyclable stuff in your general waste, you'll get a letter and eventually a fine)
Not true I've lived here years never had any issue.

I'm not wearing clothes more than once only coats get worn more than once.

Three loads of washing a day?Shock

Give it time. All councils are under increasing pressure to reduce costs and reduce landfill. They are get charged for everything they dump and have targets set for reduction. It’s only a matter of time before they are checking your bin contents in the street and leaving a big yellow noticed on it for contamination.

ThisLittleKitty · 11/02/2018 22:37

Yes I've done 3 today. Sometimes it's two.

Check out the blue bin guidence (it's a download). www.bassetlaw.gov.uk/everything-else/environment-services/waste-recycling/recycling.aspxe won't tasks glass. Won't take lids. Paper must be prestige (it gets washed so why). Won't take food cartons or fruit containers. I'm used to recycling loafs but with these restrictions my landfill will be going up. And no food bin!

MipMipMip · 11/02/2018 22:41

Loads, not loafs. I eat those.

picklemepopcorn · 11/02/2018 22:41

Would you reconsider your washing strategy? Obviously underwear needs daily changing, but other things can be worn several times. Over washing clothes wears them out more quickly. If clothes still smell fresh and don't have marks on them, then they can be worn again.

That said, if you go on s9me buses/tube your clothes may not last- my clothes always smell worse after being in a city.

dementedpixie · 11/02/2018 22:43

Link doesn't work. We have a bin for just paper and cardboard plus a mixed recycling bin. One for general waste and the garden/ Food waste bin

Rinoachicken · 11/02/2018 22:44

OP you haven’t said whether you are going to start flattening your tecyclingnto get more in???

I have three small dc and generally can't wear clothes more than once without washing cause they are filthy by the end of the day. Mostly snot and yoghurt. The dc mostly need their clothes washed every day even though the little ones wear bibs (which also need washing). I use washable wipes which also need washing each time. We usually get by on one load of washing a day except at weekends when I do sheets and the machine is running basically non stop.

ThisLittleKitty · 11/02/2018 22:49

Yes I would definitely be flattening it.

No will continue to wash things after one wear. Wouldn't want worn clothes going back in the drawers/wardrobe with clean clothes.

ThisLittleKitty · 11/02/2018 22:50

I don't know anyone who would wear clothes more than once. Even the kids clothes get washed after very wear.

We’re the same as Bojangles with monthly black bin collection and manage fine as a family of 4/5. I could guarantee there is not a way in hell our Council would empty an extra wheelie bin we bought ourselves. Our recycling trolleys are pathetic but we manage by crushing boxes (bloody obvious in my opinion) and using an extra overflow bag supplied by the Council.

How the hell do 5 people generate enough washing for 3 loads a day? I’ve got teens who get through towels at one hell of a speed and a dh with a dirty job and don’t need to put 3 washes a day on.

DenPerry · 11/02/2018 22:59

I wish we could have an extra one.. black bin collected fortnightly and we're always over by a couple of bags despite me recycling everything recyclable. I assume yours is filling so quickly only because you fill it with the backlog once the bin men have been!

makingmiracles · 11/02/2018 23:04

Can’t beleive so many people frothing about this and the general smugness over filling or not filling a wheelie bin!

We are a family of 6 with one in nappies. we have a standard/large wheelie bin which gets emptied fortnightly, it is most definately full, often we have to stand on it to squash it down because if the lid is open, even just a tiny bit, they refuse to take it.
I recycle everything recyclable in my area, cardboard, paper, cans, glass, aerosols, plastic bottles-from drinks to cleaning products, I have 6 recycling bins and seperate items to make it an easier job for the guys who collect, even then the recycling is generally more than half full in each of the six bins by the time 2 weeks rolls around!

Op ring council and see if they will give you a larger bin due to family size, if not might be worth buying your own on eBay
