Won't give me another wheelie bin...

Bins here are collected weekly. EVERY Sunday without fail my wheelie bin is full. (There collected Thursday) several times local cats (I believe) have managed to get the bags out the wheelie bin as they are open with the bags on top because they are over flowing. Anyway these cats will rip out all my rubbish so the garden will be covered. I called the council and asked for another wheelie bin as several neighbours have more than one of the same colour top bins. I was told I wasn't allowed another one and the ones the neighbours had were "obviously stolen!" Aibu to not see why I can't have another one. And before any one suggests I recycle more I do I recycle everything that can be and I have no car to go to a tip.

This thread is fucking awesome.

My main bin gets collected every 3 weeks, recycling and food waste every week. We have 2 adults, 1 toddler, 2 cats and a rabbit. I still don't get how you have so much waste. We also get nappies collected weekly but I know that's unusual. Our recycling bins blew away a few weeks ago and took 2 weeks to get replacements. We just compacted the recycling down and stored it in the house in a box till we got new ones, not ideal but much better than an overflowing bin for weeks on end.
As for the washing all I can say is please think of the environment. Obviously only wear underwear once but what about a jumper that you have worn over a t-shirt or a hoodie, how dirty are you getting. You don't need to put clothes back in the wardrobe just fold them up to be worn the next day. The amount of water and electricity you must use.

BMW6 · 11/02/2018 23:07

OP seriously you have to take responsibility and sort out your shit.
You MUST severly cut down the amount of rubbish you are putting out.
Make sure everything that can be recycled goes into the recycling bin. Crush tins, tear up and flatten boxes.
Re-heat leftovers or freeze for another day.

You are like my neighbours there is going to be a stand-off there soon because our council have sent out letters saying that from 29 January bins will not be emptied AT ALL if the lid will not close.
If you have too much you have to take it to the municipal rubbish centre under your own steam.
We have our bins emptied fortnightly and next door fills their bin up within 2 days, then puts black bags of crap in the recycle bin, so the binmen won't be emptying that either (they didn't last week so now bags are piling up on both bins).

I hope to fuck they sort themselves out before it gets warm.......

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 11/02/2018 23:08

You don’t put once worn clothes back in the drawer. You set them on a chair or hang them on a hanger on a hook and wear the next day. If you’re savvy you hang them on a hanger off a curtain rail by an open window for a day and they’re fresh as a daisy by the next day. Wink

ThisLittleKitty · 11/02/2018 23:09

I dunno baby gets changed a couple times a day. The kids occasionally wet the bed (3 year old) the oldest also has the occasional accident during the day.

Wear them the next day? Wouldn't want people seeing me wearing the same clothes two days in a row. I remember when my mum pointed out a woman we saw two days in a row and both times she was wearing the same dress. She was abit Shock

I think OP should check first that they will empty more than one bin before she buys one.......
Ours won't. One bin per house only and they will not take any of it if the lid is not closed.

NDN is falling foul of the rules. Their recycle bin was not emptied last week as it had black rubbish bags in it. They fill their normal bin with a day or two. Fuck knows what with cos I never see them bring shopping home, and I am home all day.
Currently both bins overflowing and rubbish bags piled on top on both. Cats are starting to rip the bags.....
Hope to fuck someone gets the minging bastards to sort themselves out before the warmer weather.

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 11/02/2018 23:13

If everyone had to handle their own rubbish, take it to the refuse site, sort it and properly dispose of it I think there would be a lot more responsibility taken. If OP can’t afford a taxi She would be dealing with her rubbish in her own house. I’m sure she would find a way to cut down in waste pretty sharpish.

Your mum’s an ignorant snob. HTH.

When you were at school OP did you have 5 of everything?

welshmist · 11/02/2018 23:18

Wow four weekly black bin collections here, now that is a challenge. Standing outside in the alleyway recycling at this time of year is a pet hate of mine.

Dobbythesockelf · 11/02/2018 23:18

Well not everyone can afford to do washing everyday or enough clothes that they can keep changing them. Also some people dont like wasting water, or using electricity needlessly or if your like me you only have a few maternity items and refuse to buy more when they are perfectly wearable for a couple of days. Lots of reasons none of which people should be judged on.

The only thing we wore more than once for school was the jumpers. Same for my kids.

It's an acquaintance of hers so she pointed it out when we saw her again.

You're a snob then.

At any given time I have an entire floordrobe a chair in my bedroom piled up with "lightly worn" clothes that have been worn so aren't allowed back in the wardrobe but aren't dirty so don't need washing ... if you don't want to wear things two days running wear them on alternate days ... cuts down on washing and you don't have to wear the same clothes two days in a row and allows time for a good febreze-ing

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 11/02/2018 23:22

So how is it ok to wear a school jumper more than once but not a different jumper? Confused did you have 5 skirts?

Dobbythesockelf · 11/02/2018 23:24

But why does she care, is it really any of her business? It's a horribly snobby attitude to take. Think if all the money you would save if you wore things twice!! Not to mention the environmental impact.

OP you would cut your laundry in half if you wore everything twice. Also consider using smaller towels when bathing. Takes up less space in the machine. If I’m not washing my hair (only done twice a week) I dry myself with two facecloths after the shower. I used to use a large bath sheet! Every time! Shock that’s a bath sheet every day from just me alone. The DCs also bath daily and had a bath towel each. Now I give them a hand towel and they share it. I use a micro fibre wrap on my hair for hair washing days and don’t wash it every time. I hang it up and it air dries.

melj1213 · 11/02/2018 23:29

Exactly how did your mother know she hadn’t washed it overnight?

Or that the lady didn't have half a dozen identical dresses in her wardrobe ...

One of my friends lives in jeans and I have never seen her wear anything else since we left school unless it was a fancy event but I couldn't tell you if she was wearing the same pair of jeans every day or had 100 pairs of jeans she rotated as it makes zero difference.

yikesanotherbooboo · 11/02/2018 23:29

This thread is hovering close to the believability line.
OP , make life easier and cheaper for yourself and stop washing clean clothes.
Read your local councils guidelines about refuse and recycling and follow what they say. Rope any of your children that are old enough into box crushing.. they tend to be good at it

LindyHopSkipRunner · 11/02/2018 23:30

Yes, maybe the acquaintance did three loads of washing a day.

ineedaholidaynow · 11/02/2018 23:34

In respect of people who wash clothes after only wearing them once, how do you think people cope who have to wear suits, most of which can only be dry cleaned, of if they are machine washable don't last as long if continually being washed?

Or school blazers? DS's blazer has just had its half termly wash, and he wears it every day Shock. In the winter he does wear a jumper too, and that gets a weekly wash. In the summer, he doesn't have the jumper but does have to wear the blazer every day unless it is extremely hot.
