Wow what a fussy bunch we are. I bet if you put a plate of any of these things down in front of my gran during the war she would've ate them with relish. We are lucky to be able to pick and choose what we like. Maybe that's why their are so many eating disorders today.
Personally for me it's Liver. Tripe. Blue cheese. Goats cheese and baked beans. All edible I'm sure just not for me.

QuackPorridgeBacon · 11/02/2018 23:25

Oysters, I just don’t get it. Also, Organs, why? And tongues etc. Nasty.

toffee1000 · 11/02/2018 23:42

Oh yes, fizzy water is rank.
Had Irn Bru in Scotland once. It was hideously, cloyingly sweet and I have a pretty big sweet tooth. I wouldn’t have it again.

Foobarjar · 11/02/2018 23:43

Meat

Pinklady301 · 11/02/2018 23:56

Fois Gras! And another vote for liver!

CaptainNelson · 12/02/2018 00:08

I have read this ENTIRE thread and can't believe no-one has said:
banana custard.
Even typing it is a wrench.
Jelly is also vomit-inducing.

Geordie1944 · 12/02/2018 00:31

Charred, boiled or burned dead animals. If people had to kill the animals they chose to eat themselves meat eating would die out overnight.

toffee1000 · 12/02/2018 00:36

Geordie1944 farmers do it all the time and have done for decades.

jcyclops · 12/02/2018 01:12

Salad

RustyPaperclips · 12/02/2018 01:18

Snails
Coriander
Eels
Liver

In that order. @Sparklingbrook I love the flying saucer sweets and will happily take any off your hands Grin

RustyPaperclips · 12/02/2018 01:21

Oh and capers. Wtf is up with capers?! Grin

LanguidLobster · 12/02/2018 01:26

Rusty oh those flying saucer things which melt in your mouth and are sherbety? I loved those.

I don't get lamb. Mind you I'd eat seafood and blue cheese and other things the majority of people don't like.

RustyPaperclips · 12/02/2018 01:29

@Notthenameiwant sadly eating disorders are far more complicated than just being down to a person being a picky eater

zaalitje · 12/02/2018 01:31

Roll mops - cold pickled fish, just why?

Olives - testicles of satan

RustyPaperclips · 12/02/2018 01:31

Languid yes the melt in your mouth flying saucers full of sherberty goodness Grin

toffee1000 · 12/02/2018 02:53

I tried flying saucers a couple of times. They were weird, like biting into thin polystyrene or something.

Lentils are peasant food? WTF??? Where the hell do you get that idea?? It’s not something I’d really associate a peasant/working class person to eat, really.

healzam · 12/02/2018 03:03

Eggs.
Whoever decided hey that fell out of a chickens butt, let see how tasty this will be. And when you think about it more, we are all eating chicken periods. Yumo

BitOfFun · 12/02/2018 03:04

Squid rings. They are horribly rubbery, and I imagine they taste much like the various anuses served on I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here.

TheDowagerCuntess · 12/02/2018 03:04

Charred, boiled or burned dead animals. If people had to kill the animals they chose to eat themselves meat eating would die out overnight.

And if vegetarians had to grow all their own food.... Wink

All humans used to kill their own food - and many people still do - so we all used to be perfectly able for it.

This thread is making me hungry!

Foobarjar · 12/02/2018 03:18

Thedougarcuntess - do you or would you personally kill a cow, lamb, chicken for your food? The meat industry is so dividing and leads to so much defensiveness and hatred between meat eaters and non meat eaters.
I'm cool with growing and picking veg. Not at all ok with killing a cow for my Sunday roast. You can reference the past, but there are choices today. Life is easier and strange we have dogs and cats as pets but kill cows, sheep and chickens in horrific ways for food when there are other choices.

Foobarjar · 12/02/2018 03:34

@toffee1000 farmers don't do it, abbatoirs do.... like this m.youtube.com/watch?v=u3yn3bfq_S8

Abbylee · 12/02/2018 03:39

I grew up on a farm and have eaten meat that we raised. My father killed it. I realized when the dog mortally wounded a gopher, that i have never even killed a mouse!
Yes, I do think about animals dying to be food but my mother explained to me, "they would not be alive, or been born if we were not going to eat them."

As people who spent generations farming, food was scarce and she did not have to explain the value if food or money spent on food for the animals. We took great and wonderful care of every one of our animals. Farming is a 24 hour/day 7 day/week job.

We may have been hypocritical to some, but in reality, in our world, everything had a purpose, including our animals; barn cats (killed mice) dogs (protection, herding) to anything else. We are caretakers of the land, the animals and our environment; be happy that you can make choices. I grew up in an age where my father grandly told us that HIS father laughed at his mil bc she ate chickenfeet...he was glad that we did not need to eat them....we were successful enough to throw them away...ALL the way to the dogs. Nothing went to waste.

TheDowagerCuntess · 12/02/2018 03:42

No, I wouldn't kill my own meat, I do however buy free range and organic.

My point was that meat-eaters killing their own food is just as (un-)likely to happen as all vegetarians being responsible for growing their own food.

If vegetarians were suddenly expected to grow all their own vegetables, there would be a lot of starving people around.

Anyway - don't want to derail the thread.

BrimFire · 12/02/2018 03:51

You can't farm livestock without seeing dead animals same as having a pet means knowing you might have to put it down one day. All alive things will be dead one day. Your choice if you don't want them alive in the first place though.
I can't eat faggots. Constitute parts yes, put together covered in gravy and called after something that sounds like a cigarette. Nope. I will happily eat anything else.

BitOfFun · 12/02/2018 03:56

Oh, and lentils are a very cheap source of protein, but they are more often seen as "world foods" today, rather than a staple of people who need to make their money stretch- probably because we are so used to cheap convenience meals nowadays, and lentils are fairly labour-intensive. It's a shame that they aren't more commonly used any more, because with the right seasoning, they are tasty and nutritious.
