Is this just a little sad?

I'm single. Would I look a little sad (and stand out!!) if I went to the cinema on my own? I've nobody to go with and REALLY want to see this particular film. I usually just wait until they come out on Sky, but this one is really calling me. Would you go in your own?

I went on my own once and loved it! Go go go!

I know somebody that goes to theme parks on her own.

Go!

It is not sad at all! What would be sad is missing films because you didn't want to go on your own.

I mean, obviously don't go to see a romantic movie on Valentine's night, but other than that you can't go wrong.

I love going to the cinema alone!! Don't wear mascara Grin I find I get more drawn into the emotional sides of the film when I know I'm in the dark and nobody knows who I am.

Get all the snacks too Grin :)

I go all the time on my own. And The Greatest Showman is fabulous entertainment. Enjoy!

No, I do this all the time. I'm not single, I just don't like sharing pop corn Wink

I’ve been with my husband since I was in my teens and I make a point of doing things on my own- cinema, coffee and cake in a cafe etc. This week, I had four nights in a hotel on my own.

I think it’s important to be comfortable in your own company, and able to entertain yourself.

DH happily goes to the cinema on his own too.

What's sad is missing something you want to experience because you're worried about going alone!

I go to the cinema and the theatre on my own all the time. I also go camping on my own, on holiday on my own and to concerts and gigs on restaurants alone. If I want to go, I go - I'm not letting the lack of a second person put me off. The only time I've ever felt a bit uncomfortable and thought that actually, this would be better with another person, was when I was in Nashville and the restaurants were more like bar/concert places and I felt a bit uncomfortable.

I haven't been to a cinema with someone in 3 years. It's not like you can chat!

Aridane · 09/02/2018 20:15

Not on a a Saturday night, no -but, yes, for a matinee or weekday evening

LaurieMarlow · 09/02/2018 20:22

I LOVE going to the cinema on my own. And the theatre. Pure enjoyment with no one to annoy me.

I went to see The Greatest Showman alone. I loved it! Really good fun, with a great soundtrack. Enjoy OP!

Just came on to say what everyone else seems to have said!

Also, when you book\buy cinema tickets there is the option to buy only one ticket, you don't have to buy a minimum of two, therefore it can be assumed it is expected some people only want to purchase one ticket. (I am not trying to be sarcastic\goady etc. but it seems to be coming across that way, it just seems a logical conclusion to me) I am certain the staff at cinemas are used to groups of varying sizes going to showings and they don't bat an eyelid at people going alone, possibly don't even notice.

Personally, I have never been to the cinema alone and I am in my 40s, but it doesn't mean other people can't go by themselves or that I will never go by myself.

I hope you enjoy your cinema visit, I am now wondering what it would be like being able to go to the cinema without having to organise a family of six all going together. Just sorting snacks and drinks takes long enough (we use it as treat day and often let them have pick 'n' mix sweets - takes ages to pick them - from Tesco or Wilkos, not the cinema as too expensive) but choosing a film we all want to see can be hard. When we split into two groups to see different films we have to try to find showings at similar times and sometimes one group needs to go to the nearby McDonald's for half an hour afterwards to wait for everyone else - just too much hassle!

Thinking of going alone one day...
