Is this just a little sad?

I'm single. Would I look a little sad (and stand out!!) if I went to the cinema on my own? I've nobody to go with and REALLY want to see this particular film. I usually just wait until they come out on Sky, but this one is really calling me. Would you go in your own?

I used to miss out on so many things because I didn't want to go on my own. Now I have kids, I literally fantasise about going for coffee, to the cinema, to the supermarket, etc. on my own.

Do it, OP! Do it for me!

SaturdaySauv · 08/02/2018 21:20

I’m married but love solo cinema to get some time to myself. Enjoy it!

I've done it and it's fine. If you aren't happy with your single status I'd just avoid Valentines Day (coming Wednesday). It's the only day of year Id expect it will be a lot more full of couples then with groups (unless it's aimed at children.)

ilovesooty · 08/02/2018 21:27

Enjoy the film
It's fine!

Duchessgummybuns · 08/02/2018 21:29

Go for it Smile if I didn’t do things on my own I wouldn’t end up doing much of anything!

Zofloraqueen27 · 08/02/2018 21:30

Sheer bliss of going to the cinema/theatre/opera/ballet on my own. You can please yourself (more or less) where to sit in the cinema. I absolutely detest sitting near anyone who sniffs, munches, breathes out of order so am mostly free to get up and move. Fortunately I can go to the cinema early in the day when not many people do so. I remember one glorious occasion when there were only two of us in the whole cinema at a live showing of a favourite opera.

Don’t miss out on any opportunity of having a nice enjoyable time.

I am planning to take myself to New York next year - holidays alone can be fun too.

Spectre8 · 08/02/2018 21:30

I go all the time (2 times a week on occassion). I love it and I dont care what people think I will never see them again. I often see other people go on their own too. I choose not to go to thos times that are busy but only because people talk, get their phones out and it really annoys me to death. So where I can I choose quieter times.

Happycow · 08/02/2018 21:31

Been a few times on my own - noone batted an eyelid (or stole my snacks!).

seafoodeatit · 08/02/2018 21:31

I know a few people that are cinema members and go on their own very often, you should go for it.

UnicornRainbowColours · 08/02/2018 21:32

Go on my own all the time. Go with friends too and it’s no different.

WingsOnMyBoots · 08/02/2018 21:32

I have. I would! Sadder NOT to go if you really want to go!! GO!

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 08/02/2018 21:34

My DD goes to the cinema and the theatre on her own all the time...

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 08/02/2018 21:34

Of course it's fine. In fact it probably makes more sense to go on your own, really; given that you can't exactly interact with anyone else during the movie.

Enjoy! 🍿🍫

BettyBaggins · 08/02/2018 21:35

Do it, just dont fall asleep like me!

norfolkenclue · 08/02/2018 21:37

Haha @BettyBaggins I'll try to stay awake 😂

I'm not single and still occasionally go to the cinema alone as me and dp don't like the same films. Trust me, no one will notice you! (I mean that nicely)

Luckycatsplat · 08/02/2018 21:40

Go!
I went yo the theatre by myself recently. I was scared but really enjoyed it and felt empowered! Stupid but true.

SnowannaRainbow · 08/02/2018 21:40

What film are you going to?

moofolk · 08/02/2018 21:41

Go! Going out alone is great. I go to gigs on my own sometimes.

Trills · 08/02/2018 21:41

What is sad is that you have been made to feel worried about it.

Going to the cinema alone is a wonderful joyful thing.

You are only going to sit in the dark, face forwards, and not talk.

feral · 08/02/2018 21:41

I go on my own a lot!

It's better. No one nicks the popcorn or tries to talk through the film. It's ace.

Mummaofboys · 08/02/2018 21:42

Ooo yes go on your own, it wouldn’t look sad at all. Much better, nobody to steal your popcorn.

NotTheFordType · 08/02/2018 21:42

I find going to the cinema on my own can be really more enjoyable than with someone else, particularly if they're not particularly into films in the same way I am.

I'd happily go with my son to watch a horror film, thriller, comedy or superhero film, as we would appreciate it in the same way.

When it comes to stuff that's a bit more eclectic I will happily go on my own, as I know from experience that hearing "I don't get it" and "this is boring" will ruin my own enjoyment, whether my cinema buddy is 15 or 45.

literally nobody will care that you're on your own. Buy the ticket online before you go, it's always cheaper that way.
