Is this just a little sad?

I'm single. Would I look a little sad (and stand out!!) if I went to the cinema on my own? I've nobody to go with and REALLY want to see this particular film. I usually just wait until they come out on Sky, but this one is really calling me. Would you go in your own?

I go to the cinema on my own fairly frequently. My favourite thing is to go to an early showing on a Sunday morning and enjoy a coffee with the film :)

Cabininthewoods69 · 08/02/2018 21:43

I'm not single and love going on my own. I used to work in a cinema when I was in college and plenty do this

NotTheFordType · 08/02/2018 21:43

Sorry for the excessive use of particularly 🙈

Redfin · 08/02/2018 21:45

I love going on my own

BungledUpInTwo · 08/02/2018 21:46

Cinema, theatre, gigs...all absolutely fine to do alone and sometimes just what the doctor ordered!

AnnieAnoniMouse · 08/02/2018 21:46

I can barely find time to go, let alone arrange it when someone else can go too!

What film do you want to see?

DenPerry · 08/02/2018 21:47

Always go on my own, even on a friday night when the couples are out. No-one notices, no-one cares! It's my only slice of alone time away from family life... bliss.

caoraich · 08/02/2018 21:50

Just go!

I used to often go to the first showings of the day when I came off a night shift. It was great, even if the cinema people looked at me a bit strangely for eating a box of popcorn at 10am while watching the newest Disney outing.

Also if it's crap you can just walk out, instead of trying to subtly figure out if whoever you're with thinks so too

floriad · 08/02/2018 21:53

Not at all.

You'll be strong and Independent :)

I think I'd actually like to do this. Put on my heels, lipstick, do my hair and just go alone ;)
But I'm currently very pregnant so I feel more like a tired, swollen-footed landwhale with reflux than an an attractive, independent cinema goer....

Allthewaves · 08/02/2018 21:55

Love going on my own. Loads of people go by themselves during the day or straight after work

CheeseGirl4 · 08/02/2018 21:55

I've been to the cinema on my own this evening. I go a lot, sometimes with friends, but I think nothing of going alone, and nobody bats an eyelid. Give it a go.

Lanaorana2 · 08/02/2018 21:56

Oh, you'll love it. I always wear a big shawl and cosy down with a cuppa, I'm getting quite addicted to cheap matinees.

afrikat · 08/02/2018 21:56

I go on my own loads. Probably going on Saturday afternoon. I love going alone!

Lunettesloupes · 08/02/2018 21:59

Going to the pictures on your own is cool - I’ve done it loads of times and the best thing is you don’t have to talk about the film. Go for it. You could join a meetup group if you want company but tbh I’d go alone - wear interesting clothes and be enigmatic - even better. Nothing cooler.

Littlebelina · 08/02/2018 21:59

Do it! I have started doing this and love it

headintheproverbial · 08/02/2018 21:59

I would absolutely bloody love to go on my own and see a grown up film with no one rabbiting in my ear or needing a wee halfway through. Do it!

PilbeClarke · 08/02/2018 22:00

definitely go on your own!

Titsywoo · 08/02/2018 22:01

I go on my own! There is a lovely cinema near here with sofas and side tables and you can order wine and food which they bring to your seat. It's almost nicer going by myself to be honest!

theftbyfinding · 08/02/2018 22:01

I LOVE the cinema alone. Often let dh and ds go see something they love and a few days later take myself off to a film that floats my boat. Peace and no need to dissect the film afterwards.

squarecorners · 08/02/2018 22:02

Lots of "film fans" go on their own- all the critics do. Take a notepad and pretend you are Mark Kermode...

bimbobaggins · 08/02/2018 22:03

I go to the cinema a lot on my own. I absolutely love it and quite often get the cinema to myself. My very own private screening. No one would bat an eyelid at you.

Currently on another thread about the cinema and next time I’m taking my blanket

If you can’t face it I’ll come with you

poisoningpidgeysinthepark · 08/02/2018 22:15

Gosh no, it's never occurred to me that it would be an odd thing to do. I love going out for meals on my own too. And I'm married!

BettyBettyBetty · 08/02/2018 22:16

OP, what are you going to see?

Go, savour it! I'm very happily married but love a solo cinema trip. Me time!

yestheyhavethesamedad · 08/02/2018 22:22

I do it all the time , in fact my children bought me an unlimited cinema pass , and I go even to see rubbish films , I go in the morning before picking kids up from school and going to work .

WitchIwasaWitch18 · 08/02/2018 22:23

You can go by yourself. Lots of people do. After all we've all got different tastes in films. I'll watch Hidden Figures every day of the week but you'd never get me into a horror film showing or anything linked to Starwars.

You're sat in the dark and really, no one cares. Go for it.
