To ask when did you first feel like an adult?

I saw in the paper about 50 signs you are an adult , so just wondering when you first felt like one

I think the first time was getting my first job and obviously pay check

When I first drove on my own (I was married and pregnant and had been working for years. I'd lived abroad... ). I still feel grown up when I drive.

When my parents died. I was 36.

I dont feel like an adult now and I'm almost 50 Grin. I remember feeling 'older' when I drove myself to the supermarket and bought my own shopping to cook my own dinner. That was around 18 but nothing since then.

Probably when I left school and started working full time. When adults stopped treating me like a child!

What do adults feel like. Oh yes DH feels like an adult. I guess about 28 then. That's when I felt like an adult and wanted to feel one. Grin

I'm 28 and still don't. I think it's amazing that I'm trusted to look after two small people, drive them around, feed them and generally keep them safe.

I guess sometimes when I am being a calm, patient parent I feel slightly nore adult.

Dealing with solicitors and managing the purchase of our house... but not in a good, yay-for-me way Hmm
I never think I sound convincing when I tell DC that I’m the grown up Grin

Thought i’d feel like a grown up when I got married and then had children, but no still felt as irresponsible as ever.
First day on call as a paediatric consultant, looked round the heaving Paeds A&E, realised the buck stopped with me and grew up instantly

When someone with a child blocks your way in the street and they said 'come here let this lady past' haha lady makes you feel so grown up!!

When my mum died. I was married, owned a home, had a child, expecting another but it was then I realised I was a proper adult probably because I didn't have the protection from my mum anymore

The first time I truly felt like an adult was when the nurse came to do the auditory tests on DS about an hour after he was born and said "is it ok if I check him over Mum?" And I looked at my mum who was with me who said "no, she's talking to you". Oh riiiggghhhhtttt I'm the Mum.

Running a household. Little things like remembering to put things in the calendar (and turn the page on the calendar). Realising that you have to clear out and clean fridges. Remembering to buy toilet roll. All the stuff I took for granted living at home. Paperwork.

I feel old lol but not grown up, I don't think I'll ever be an adult, I'm 40 something now ;)

I'm 31 and I still dont feel like an adult, i have huge responsibilities but I still feel naive and vulnerable at times of stress...its weird...

When my stepfather died and I became my Mothers carer as she lost her mind. No SS interventions , this was the 1970's. School, shopping, looking after nine year old sister, cleaning, cooking. He had been a violent alcoholic, to be honest I was glad when he died but what was to come was just as bad but in a different way.

When going to visit my parents stopped feeling like going home. I was about 30 and suddenly realised I felt more relaxed in my own home than theirs.

When i realised people older than me were behaving like kids in a playground.
When I started to stand up for myself and make big decisions about my future.
When suddenly I had to parent my parent.

I’ve felt like an adult since I was about eight. I’ve always had an old soul and I’ve never really been treated like a child. Also my dad died when I was ten, and as the eldest kid in the family I sort of fell into an adult-y role.

I’m 36 now and kind of exhausted though - I feel like i’ve never been responsibility-free. It would be so nice for someone else to be in charge for a change. I love spending time with bossy people because it’s so nice to drift along in someone’s slipstream occasionally.
