To warrant a psychiatric hospital, the disorder would have to be treatable. AFAIK, apart from castration, paedophilia is not currently considered treatable.

If he were mad, he would be in a psychiatric institution. Secure psych hospitals are not just prisons where no one gets out, they are hospitals, where people are treated.

Because they are individuals with different responses.

From what I remember , Thompson was the leader, Venables the follower. Thompson the cold calculating one, Venables his disciple. I'm not surprised Venables is completely screwed up. I could armchair psychoanalyse this and be bang on target.

He WANTS to be locked up. He's institutionalised. His guilt is too much. And he's getting back inside the only way he knows how.
