DH's 'HOBBY', my HOBBY, DC's HOBBY...
AIBU to feel irrational rage when I read this? Just tell us what the activity is FGS. Angry

I can't understand why the hobby is so important, it's the problem that is being discussed that is important.
I never think what the hobby might be as it's not really the problem.

Vashna · 06/02/2018 14:55

About a year ago, I was quite exhausted and demented by DH's hobbies because he had three serious accidents in 6 months - one almost drowning, one climbing and one crashing a car, but it's hard to change too many details as you confuse yourself so I might have just said "hobbies" because people around me know what he's like and there's some things you can't really make up without sounding mad.

SilverBirchTree · 06/02/2018 15:10

With you OP

‘Hobby’ indeed

BikeRunSki · 06/02/2018 15:13

Controversial hobbies that generate AIBU threads are usually cycling for DHs, although golf, football and rugby are contenders too. For DCs it’s usually Gymnastics, or swimming that requires training at 5am.

HettyB · 06/02/2018 17:54

I like to imagine scores of husbands doing things like rhythmic gymnastics, butter churning or attending ‘Bronie’ conventions.

BellMcEnd · 06/02/2018 19:25

Hetty or that thing where they dress up as giant babies and get whipped by Madame Helga

InspMorse · 08/02/2018 19:21

Bell That's exactly the kind of thing I think of when the word 'hobby' is used to describe an adult activity!

My computer says your hobby is caring for hummingbirds

Cute, but wrong!

translationAndRotation · 09/02/2018 03:44

@babyccinoo

I love grammar more than most but possessive apostrophes after initialisms don't bother me too much.

@InspMorse

I think I'm more annoyed by the 'need' for secrecy. "DH's hobby (think cycling)" or "I went to a supermarket (think Tesco)"

People are hardly likely to be 'outed' because the went to a fucking shop!

The phrase 'think ...' makes me irrationally annoyed!

Buxbaum · 09/02/2018 06:55

I like to assume that it is taxidermy.

"DH needs a lot of storage for his hobby."
"I think DH is having an emotional affair with someone who shares his niche hobby."
"DH's hobby absolutely dominates our lives."

...all taxidermy.

Trashboat · 09/02/2018 06:59

I'm with you OP. It sounds ridiculous.

My dh does his 'hobby'
I was out with my 'hobby' group.

It sounds STUPID.

UnimaginativeUsername · 09/02/2018 08:29

I actually know a couple of people who spend their spare time on taxidermy.

bluegreygreen · 09/02/2018 10:38

involves the use of (among other things) cat litter, vaseline, chopsticks and wire cutters

Model railway layouts?

BarbaraofSevillle · 09/02/2018 10:49

No, it's already been guessed as taxidermy.

I guess taxidermy too then! Grin

Yes!!!! That's my hobby, getting the rage over the phrase 'think'.

TheSecondOfHerName · 09/02/2018 18:03

It's almost always cycling.
When it's not cycling, it's historical war re-enactment. Which is similar, but with less Lycra and you're not allowed to wear a watch.

TheSecondOfHerName · 09/02/2018 18:06

DH has decided he is going to start making haloumi (he has a kit and everything).

DS2 plays dungeons & dragons like it's 1988 or something.

TheSecondOfHerName · 09/02/2018 18:09

I want to start making twiddlemuffs.

lookingforthedroids · 09/02/2018 23:32

No, it's not taxidermy.
