I know this type of thread has probably been done to death, but someone on fb shared a daily fail link yesterday about the creepy things children sometimes say. It got me thinking about strange goings on.

My eldest dd at about the age of 2 was sat playing in her room while I was putting washing away in my room. She suddenly started screaming so I ran in thinking she had hurt herself and she was wide eyed with fear. I asked her what was wrong and she said while pointing I should add " there's a man with black eyes and a hat holding a baby" Confused

I've never walked out of a room so quickly ( backwards I should add so I didn't have to see the man) my cat also used to refuse to enter that room at all. Lots of other little things when she was pre school age.

For myself I kept smelling "death" I work in a hospital environment and do believe death or pre death to be more specific has a certain smell.
I was still living at home and for about a week everytime I walked in the front door I could smell death. Hmm
I still remember DM face everytime I announced it. Ha.
Towards the end of the week the smell was so strong. That evening I had a dream that I was in bed fast asleep and the whole house started to shake. I got up and looked out or the window to see an aeroplane about 12 feet away with people screaming at the window getting closer towards a block of flats ( there are no flats nearby)
The next day was September 11th.
I remember watching the news and thinking FUCKING hell. The dream.
Weirdly enough after that happened the smell of death went too. It still weirds me out when I think about it.
I also dreamt about the London/Birmingham riots a few years nack 2 days before they kicked off.

Do you have any odd stories to share?

Also my dh says he saw his mum about a month after she died.

He was in a hotel room in London and waking up and she was sat on the sofa and smiled at him and then evaporated.

He was immensely comforted. He is very cynical snd thinks it was him comforting himself. I think it was her comforting him.

Wobblebeans · 27/03/2018 11:18

I also see the spiders.

I once woke DP up to get him to check inside my dressing gown as I was adamant I'd seen a massive one crawl inside the sleeve. Obviously there wasn't anything in there Confused

I thought I was the only one

I looked after my 3 year old niece for a few days. One night I was tucking her in bed.

She grabbed my cheeks and said "I love you Aunty Thimpu. I hope you don't die in a fire tonight" while looking deep into my eyes.

She was obsessed with Fireman Sam and fire engines so I just ignored it even though it freaked me the fuck out.

In the middle of the night, we were all woken up by our NDN's smoke alarm. The whole ground floor of my NDN's house was on fire.

DD2 has recently started saying little things as well that suggest to me she's seeing things. She's started regularly talking about the spiders as well and is sometimes genuinely terrified of them, and the other things she's seeing. I didn't link it all until I read this thread!

mamahanji · 27/03/2018 13:20

I swear my 3 year old is reading my mind. I've noticed for about a year she will say things that me and dp have been thinking. Like we were all in the same room and I text him 'shall we go to soft play' and Dd1 starts jumping up and down and saying 'I love soft play! Can we go to soft play?'

Earlier today I remembered I had some smoothie packs in the freezer and thought she could have one after Pre-school as a treat/snack. She literally comes up to me and says 'I really want a smoothie please.'

Or talking in bed at night to my dp about my deceased nonna as I miss her terribly and the next morning dd1 says 'it's horrible when someone goes away and doesn't come back. I would hate it if MY nanny died.'

Many other instances too. She is incredibly intuitive and smart so maybe we just have the same thought pattern...or she's a witch

Thinkingofausername1 · 27/03/2018 13:39

My dd said to me are you staring at those monk things on the corner of the road.
Total confirmation for me as I thought I was seeing things!!!!

Myusernameisunique · 27/03/2018 14:03

DD2 has recently came out with these amazing observations that are making me consider getting a priest in 😂.
"The man is going to get me"
Bolting down from the toilet absolutely hysterical "there's a monster up the stairs". She was genuinely terrified and absolutely refused to go up the stairs alone again that day. Her reaction was very different to a child that had spooked themselves.
There's so many more but they're all along the same lines.
She also spent a whole day recently convinced she had spiders on her.
We've lived in our house for 10 years now and I've never seen anything until recently when DD2 started coming out with these random things. I've now had a few episodes of sleep paralysis where I'm being touched or continually hit by something . The house is ex-council and built in the late 80s though and the only previous owners are still alive so unsure what could be happening.

Very interesting thread.

My maternal grandma died when staying with us after a very short illness. She had said to my mum just a couple of days earlier that 'when I die I do not want X at my funeral' naming two cantankerous close relatives she did not get on with.

Mum smiled and said okay as at that point gran was well and this seemed like just curious chit chat.

Next day as gran was now ill and in a put up bed in our living room she kept staring at the wall and door and having a conversation with someone none of us could see.

I asked mum who she was talking to and she said she thinks she is seeing her parents - my great grandparents - both of whom died before I was born. The conversation was just like with someone in the same room. She had not yet seen a doctor so on no medication.

My mum said to me it was a bad sign as others in the family had seen this happen to loved ones near the end. She looked really worried.

Hours later my gran died unexpectedly.

We arranged the funeral and those cantankerous relatives were invited by my mum who said they were close family and she felt she had to ask them. But was worried about not following gran's wishes.

They arrived on the 20 mile tri[p saying they had no idea what had happened as they drove there on a route they knew well and had often taken but just got lost for the first time ever on that journey. They were going round and round in circles with no idea why until finding the right road eventually.

By the time they got to us they had missed the service.

This thread is brilliant! Only safe for daytime reading though
@Mydoghatesthebath do you mind if I ask where about the psychic you saw is from? I'd love to go to one that has been recommended.

Will pm you Smile

The spider thing - when I was about 7 I had a vivid dream (hallucination?!) there were spiders crawling all over me in my bed. I had to get up and get a sleeping bag and slept on the floor in that instead. Never forgotten that.

As a teenager I had several spooky things happen, due to my then boyf's family being attuned to the spirit world. Once at his mum's house I was alone and sat on the sofa. Our of the corner of my eye a dark, person-sized shape went past the living room door. No-one else home, no does opened or closed. Boyf wasn't surprised when I told him. One evening the vacuum cleaner turned on even though it wasn't plugged in.

Then, we were staying at my house one night, no-one else home, in the newly-built spare room. I awoke in the morning to find him sleeping on the sofa downstairs. When questioned, he said he'd woken up in the night and felt a bad spirit in the room. He sat on a chair and eventually asked it to show itself. It apparently began to materialise by the bed, standing over the sleeping me...so he fled downstairs. A few months later we went in there again but he said it had gone, it had apparently "left with someone".

Apart from that, I often know people are preggers before they say. Not always but it's happened quite a few times, I'll see them and just think "they're pregnant".

AngelsSins · 30/03/2018 16:30

When I was about 14 I was staying at a friends house. I woke up one night to see a blonde haired boy in a green t shirt sitting on a beanbag, staring at me. I didn't feel afraid at this point, I was looking back at him and he slowly faded, until I could see the teddy bears on the bean bag behind him, then he was gone. I then got scared and hid under the covers!

The other one I had was when I was about 17 and stayed at my step mums house for the first time. When I went to bed, I felt this really threatening, scary presence. I didn't see anything but felt like I was about to be attacked.

I didn't mention anything to my step mum but a year or so later when I went back I slept in the same room and it was fine, no funny feelings. The next day, she was talking about her old dog, a German Shepard that had died a few years before. She said it used to sleep in the room I had been in, and she'd recently had a priest round to bless the room because some people she had staying over had felt threatened in that room and she believed it was her old dog. It had apparently never liked strangers.

Despite all that, I'm not sure I believe in ghosts!

Dishevelled09 · 30/03/2018 20:46

My parents moved me from a smaller bedroom to a bigger bedroom I was about 2/3 years old, think they were slowly doing the house up and I remember my parents were so chuffed as they painted it pink and pink carpet etc too. I used to scream and cry often at night,my mother being young and me being the eldest spoke to the health visitor about this and she advised my parents to return me to bed and shut the door etc. What I never told them was there was a black shadow of a hand that crept up the wall next to my bed, couldn't vocalise it at the time. It was a Victorian terrace not that this matters.

A few years ago chatting with my mum, reminiscing about the houses we lived in as a family and I told her about the shadow. She came over v pale, got upset and said when I was in the smaller room she used to experience someone being in there with me and I used to look/engage at it, she actually said aloud to "go away"when she felt this. That's why they moved me to the bigger room but she was unsure at the time if it was being a tired, over-imaginative new mum or a spirit in the house. Some other things happened there "accidents" and we moved, not sure if they were accidents thinking back. Never had that feeling in a house since.

HisBetterHalf · 31/03/2018 13:21

Not creepy but certainly unexplainable. My mum once burned herself on the oven when baking when I was about 9. I was never by the oven or anything else hot on that day yet a couple of hours later I had a burn mark (which hurt) on my arm in the exact same place that my mum had burned her arm and yet she had no marks/injury whatsoever

Echobelly · 31/03/2018 13:37

My parents have a holiday home in Eastern Europe near where my mum grew up. The house dates from 14th century onwards and there have been several fires in it over the centuries at least one of which killed the owner.

Now my dad is the most logical, skeptical, non-'woo' person imaginable but he had to admit he had a very weird experience in the front room, when he was playing the piano. There is a vintage grandfather clock in there by the piano, and as my dad was playing, it suddenly struck, even though it wasn't the hour, and it never strikes otherwise, and at that moment my dad said he had the powerful sense that someone was watching him and disapproving of the noise, even though the room was empty. We think one of the owners must not like pianos!

DH and I are spending the weekend in the house of his DM who died last summer. I was last here in the days after she died and then a couple of weeks later for the funeral. Both of those visits, and since we arrived today, I have had a strong feeling that she is around and judging me for doing things wrong and using too much water, heat and electricity so I've been having little conversations with her in my head.

DH went up to bed and I started reading this thread, despite having told him that I would join him as soon as I finished the last thread I was reading. While on page 1, the lamp beside me, which has been there without issue for years, flicked on and off twice. I am now too creeped out to turn off any lights.

Inkstainedmags · 31/03/2018 22:23

My DB and SIL bought a house from the family of a recently deceased couple who had been the only other owners and lived there for decades. The basement had a second kitchen where the woman used to spend loads of time cooking large quantities of food. DB turned it into a little flat which I rented from them. Many weird things happened there.

One was that from time to time there would be a knock on the kitchen window but I could see that there was no one out there.

Another was that SIL's dog would come down, run over to face the stove and started barking, growling and whining. We would have to drag her away.

Lastly, one night I had left my raincoat draped over the back of the sofa and it started to slip off but instead of just falling down, the hood started to 'stand' upright as if it was on a person's head, before the whole thing slowly sagged to the ground. At that point I said 'Look, I have no problem with you being here but please don't fuck with my head.' The rest of my tenancy was uneventful.

Curlyfemme · 08/03/2019 14:20

I've just come across this thread and have loved(!?) reading your stories!

I havent personally experienced anything too strange. The odd electrical things turning on and doors closing but I usually try and find a rational Explanation! However, I did work in a really old building a few years ago - it was an old vicarage attached to a newer building. The newer side was fine but the vicarage side was really creepy. One of the nurses who did sleep in shifts would sleep in the downstairs lounge of the old building. She woke one night to someone banging on the door to the lounge and the handle rattling as if it were locked. She jumped up immediately thinking it was her colleague and there was an emergency. When she got to the door, handle still rattling and banging still occurring she realised it wasn't locked. She opened the door and no-one was there! There were lots of other stories but that one really made me get goosebumps.

I had never thought of crossed numbers to be that strange until reading this thread. I have always aspired to be a midwife from being quite young. When I was 17 and doing my A levels I had lots of self doubt about it.. Fast forward a few week and I had several missed calls and messages from someone who had been given my phone number instead of the number of their midwife. When I spoke to the lady she lived in the same town as me and it was my doctors surgery who had given her my mobile number. I couldn't understand how it had happened as we don't share the same first or last name, nor are our numbers remotely similar. I then went on to complete A levels and study midwifery. Maybe it was a sign? Or merely a breach of confidentiality from my doctors surgery? Who knows... Hmm

Love these threads, they always reaffirm my faith.

Does anyone remember the recent “missing ironing board” thread?
Now that was strange, wonder if it turned up.
