I know this type of thread has probably been done to death, but someone on fb shared a daily fail link yesterday about the creepy things children sometimes say. It got me thinking about strange goings on.

My eldest dd at about the age of 2 was sat playing in her room while I was putting washing away in my room. She suddenly started screaming so I ran in thinking she had hurt herself and she was wide eyed with fear. I asked her what was wrong and she said while pointing I should add " there's a man with black eyes and a hat holding a baby" Confused

I've never walked out of a room so quickly ( backwards I should add so I didn't have to see the man) my cat also used to refuse to enter that room at all. Lots of other little things when she was pre school age.

For myself I kept smelling "death" I work in a hospital environment and do believe death or pre death to be more specific has a certain smell.
I was still living at home and for about a week everytime I walked in the front door I could smell death. Hmm
I still remember DM face everytime I announced it. Ha.
Towards the end of the week the smell was so strong. That evening I had a dream that I was in bed fast asleep and the whole house started to shake. I got up and looked out or the window to see an aeroplane about 12 feet away with people screaming at the window getting closer towards a block of flats ( there are no flats nearby)
The next day was September 11th.
I remember watching the news and thinking FUCKING hell. The dream.
Weirdly enough after that happened the smell of death went too. It still weirds me out when I think about it.
I also dreamt about the London/Birmingham riots a few years nack 2 days before they kicked off.

Do you have any odd stories to share?

I'm still waiting for Schlimbesserung to come back from the toilet and tell us about the other** one 😀

Schlimbesserung · 16/02/2018 23:49

Ooops, sorry, I forgot!
Our first child was born after 8 years of trying (many tests, some fertility treatment and a couple of miscarriages). He was very much wanted but also very much an only child. One night we heard a baby crying, but our son was on my knee playing quite happily . The crying was coming from the baby's room so I suppose he was about 10 months old at the time. The crying was very clear and we both heard it, but we just told each other we were tired and imagining things.

Over the next year or so the crying would become more and more frequent, to the point where if we heard a baby crying, we would say "Is that our baby, or The Other One?" before we went to see to him. It was at all times of day, sometimes when both of us were there and sometimes when it was just me. It was at least 4 or 5 times a week at its worst. We weren't frightened exactly, but it was properly weird! There were no other babies in the village and we live in a house in the middle of a field, so not coming from the neighbours.

We had no reason to believe that we would be able to have another child, but once I found out I was pregnant with our second son, we didn't hear The Other One any more.

Just finished watching 'Paranormal Witness' and it was scary as all fuck! It was The Haunting of Jackie Hernandez' and it was terrifying.

Ok so..... years ago I suddenly woke up when I was asleep for no reason at around 3am, standing at the foot of my bed I saw what I thought was a woman soaking wet, as if she has drowned or something, with long hair, black eyes, reaching her hand out to me. I turned my lamp on and she had gone. I rang my mum and told her about what I thought I saw the next day, and my mum just went silent on the phone. I asked her what was wrong and she said that same woman used to visit her mother at the foot of her bed when she was younger. My mum had previously never told me about it either.

When me n my sister used to live together she visited a psychic. The psychic mentioned to her that an old person was watching over us, and he mentioned that we need to stop stacking the dishes on the drainer so high after we have washed up. She never mentioned it to him he wasn't to know, we always used to joke about how high we stack the dishes to dry and that we was lucky that none of the crockery ever fell off and smashed.

I used to have a ouija board, never used it tho. Ever since I got it strange things used to happen. I lived in a complex that was 2 flats only, to get to both flats you had to open a main door at the bottom with a key, as it locked shut behind you every time you opened/closed it. The neighbour opposite me was away on holiday, so I was the only person in the complex and the bottom main door was locked, nobody could have got inside. Sometimes in the day time after locking my flat door and going out etc my door would be wide open when I returned. Late one night my flat door was going mental, door handle looked as tho it was continuously being tried vigorously, and the door was shaking, and sounded like someone was brushing their body on the outside of the door trying to get in. Nobody was in the complex apart from me at the time as neighbour in opposite flat was away on holiday. And the bottom main door was locked shut, so no one could have got in.

Me and my sister was in the flat once and heard this awful sound what we could only describe as a demon sound or something, in the hallway. The cat ran outside scared when we heard it, so the cat heard it too. I will never forget that sound.
I don't have a ouija board anymore. Apparently just having them can attract spirits even if you don't use them.

Catwaving · 18/02/2018 08:22

Schlimbesserung did you have a baby monitor in the room? If so that is most likely the cause. They frequent!y pick up sound from other monitors, from even quite a long way away.....happened to us

sashh · 18/02/2018 09:15

What is interesting is how many children have spoken about past lives. This is something that fascinates me.

I have a theory that memories can be passed on. In fact I think a few 'things' can be passed on.

My dad, my brother and I all do a weird rubbing of feet when we go to sleep. Often people seem to inherit gestures, of course it could just be something we copy, although I didn't know about my brother and dad with the feet thing until my teens.

Well my bathroom is now off limits...that is terrifying.

MyLoveIsAPrickOnATudorRose · 18/02/2018 11:34

Right? I wish I'd listened to the friend who said there was a bad spirit attached to them straight off!

I saw a man in a garden yesterday. It was a private garden, absolutely no access to anyone else. Friends garden, not mine. No one else home. I was just messing about with the animals, minding my own business. I happened to glance across the garden (very big area - acre +) and there was a man stood there. He had a green coat on. Assumed it was friend back and so looked for his dogs and young son to appear with him. They didn't. I went back to animals. Turned back, man had gone. Friend arrived home about an hour later. I don't believe in ghosts.

LaurieF · 18/02/2018 12:35

Once at a friend's grandma's house when I was around 11. It was one of those really old terraces with cellar, ground floor, first floor and then attic made into an extra bedroom. Me and friend in the attic room with a sliding door. Friends grandma in the cellar. Nobody else in the house.
As we were sat on the bed chatting we heard footsteps bounding up the steps and past the room and the sliding door flew open. Absolutely shit ourselves and ran downstairs faster than I've ever moved before.
I never visited again!

SukiTheDog · 18/02/2018 12:41

Couple of weeks ago, DS and DH had gone to London, leaving me at home for a well deserved “day off”. A couple of hours before they were due back, I heard voices downstairs and just carried on, doing what I was doing, thinking they’d come home very early for some reason. When I went down no one was there. No car outside. No TV or radio playing. Nothing. Just silence. It was really odd as we live in a detached house, in a corner spot; no passing traffic. Next door is empty. DH just said I’m tired and hearing things. 😐

LaurieF · 18/02/2018 13:04

Ooh I have another one but this is sweet rather than creepy.
Our gorgeous little tabby cat went missing one night, wouldn't come in no matter how long I spent calling him. The next morning I was laid on my back in bed catching up on FB on my phone when I felt something moving next to me then something knocked my phone out of my hand.

2 days later we found our beloved cat dead on a lane near the house, he had probably been dead a couple of days. He always used to rub his head against my hand when he was alive and I swear that was him coming to say goodbye.

We have another cat now that looks just like him, I often spot her out of the corner of my eye walking past my legs only to realise she is actually outside or asleep in her bed.

murmuration · 18/02/2018 13:37

I've mentioned this before, but I have 'past-life'-like memories from my childhood. Although if it was a past life, they didn't live very long - all the memories are from the perspective of a very young kid and the environment didn't seem appreciably different to my own at the time. I didn't even clock them as fitting into the past-life category until I was watching some documentary on them, and realised - I always used to bug my Mum to go visit the relatives with the swimming pool, or ask when we'd go see our old neighbours again - but she just told me those people didn't exist, despite me having vivid memories of them. I especially loved the pool parties. (My memories of those are mostly of bare legs, with adults towering above me - must have been quite young.

Inherited gestures - I believe it! When DD when a few days old, I watched her stretch to wake up exactly the way I often do. No way would she have learned that - I was in so much pain from EMCS that I wouldn't have done it yet. Plus she was just days old!

MichaelBendfaster · 18/02/2018 13:38

That is SO sweet, Laurie Smile

weaverofmetals · 18/02/2018 13:41

Not creepy, but a coincidence. When I told my parents I was moving from the US to the UK, my Dad said, "hang on, I've got a map for you". He'd been to the UK from before I was born. It was one of the those AA maps where they blow up a particular section of the country on the cover - and the blown up section was where I was moving to! What are the chances?

(He also gave me some shillings. At least the AA map was reasonably useful until we could get a current one, if a bit outdated.)

SukiTheDog · 18/02/2018 13:45

I used to have a cat who was a big old thing...not fat, just big. He used to sleep with me after DH left and it was a big comfort to feel him jump up onto the bed and sprawl out, the length of my legs. Sometimes I’d feel him moving about in the night because of the sheer size of him. He was 13 when we had him put down, his kidneys went. Yet, I’ll swear he used to still lossock on the bed at night. There was no other explanation. I’d feel the duvet shift and weight displacement, just the same as when he was with me.

SukiTheDog · 18/02/2018 13:47

Then, when I moved house and remarried, it stopped. I think he knew I had another “someone” to snuggle up to, at night 😊

Redboxonwheels · 18/02/2018 14:22

LaurieF and Suki

Our tabby was pts when he was the grand old age of 19 after suffering kidney failure.

Both he and our little terrier (still with us) always used the patio door in our lounge as their preferred route to the garden.

One evening, about two days after tabby had died, I slid open the patio door to let the terrier back in. Wasn’t paying much attention, just saw him dash in and closed the door again.

Couple of minutes later DH asked why I’d left the dog outside? I said I’ve just let him in!
Went to the door and sure enough, there’s the dog outside staring in.

I reckon it was tabby making a visit. He and the dog were similar size, too. DH also said a few days later he thought he saw old tabby through the frosted glass of the front door, sitting in the porch.

happinessischocolate · 18/02/2018 14:23

Why wouldn't you believe in inherited traits? I met my dad for the first time when I was 40 and have the exact same mannerisms and facial expressions as him. I even walk the same apparently.

purpleangel17 · 18/02/2018 16:00

I believe God, through an angel has been protecting me a few times.

  1. I had just gone to bed and my bedroom window overlooked the street, where my car was parked. I had gone to bed a good couple of hours later than usual as I had unusually decided to start watching a film around 10. As I got into bed, something made me look out the window. I saw my car being driven off. I called the police immediately and they recovered the car and caught the thief. If I hadn't looked out the window, it would have been the next morning before I found out and I would have struggled to get my daughter to her hospital appointment that morning. I suspect I may not have got my car back intact either.
  1. In the same house, my kids and I got back about 8 from Parents Evening and my daughters went straight to bed in their clothes, which they wouldn't normally do. I inexplicably decided to go to bed at the same time. At 1am I woke up for no apparent reason. Five minutes later the smoke alarms went off. A fire had started in the roof space. Because I was awake I was alert and got the kids out quickly. Because the kids were in their clothes they stayed warm. Our cats also escaped safely and the only damage done to my possessions was from the ceiling falling on one daughter's bed though the house needed extensive repairs. We were very, very lucky.
  1. I was feeling down recently and asked God for a sign I was loved. I went to take the rubbish out and bang in the middle of the outdoor door mat was a perfectly heart shaped green leaf in the middle of a gift tag. It was January.
MiddleAgedMe · 18/02/2018 18:20

@beany5 that really touched me, how horrific! I'm so glad you got some closure and feel that she's ok now. My best friend died very young in an accident and I was heartbroken, but like you I dreamt we were together and she told me she was ok. I completely believed her. It took me a lot longer to deal with my own grief, but I did feel she was ok.

Schlimbesserung · 18/02/2018 18:51

No, we've never used one because we live in a bungalow and you can hear any noise in the bedrooms from the kitchen and living room.
