I know this type of thread has probably been done to death, but someone on fb shared a daily fail link yesterday about the creepy things children sometimes say. It got me thinking about strange goings on.

My eldest dd at about the age of 2 was sat playing in her room while I was putting washing away in my room. She suddenly started screaming so I ran in thinking she had hurt herself and she was wide eyed with fear. I asked her what was wrong and she said while pointing I should add " there's a man with black eyes and a hat holding a baby" Confused

I've never walked out of a room so quickly ( backwards I should add so I didn't have to see the man) my cat also used to refuse to enter that room at all. Lots of other little things when she was pre school age.

For myself I kept smelling "death" I work in a hospital environment and do believe death or pre death to be more specific has a certain smell.
I was still living at home and for about a week everytime I walked in the front door I could smell death. Hmm
I still remember DM face everytime I announced it. Ha.
Towards the end of the week the smell was so strong. That evening I had a dream that I was in bed fast asleep and the whole house started to shake. I got up and looked out or the window to see an aeroplane about 12 feet away with people screaming at the window getting closer towards a block of flats ( there are no flats nearby)
The next day was September 11th.
I remember watching the news and thinking FUCKING hell. The dream.
Weirdly enough after that happened the smell of death went too. It still weirds me out when I think about it.
I also dreamt about the London/Birmingham riots a few years nack 2 days before they kicked off.

Do you have any odd stories to share?

As a teenager I was staying at my aunts old cottage. I listening to music in my headphones lying facing away from the door in the spare bed. I felt a cold draught as if someone had opened the door and assumed it was my aunt as I felt the floorboards move as if someone walked around the bed to in front of me. My aunt didn't arrive and the room became freezing cold, I was so frightened I shut my eyes, took a huge breathe and jumped from the bed to the door and ran screaming down stairs. My mum and aunt told me off for making a fuss and told me to never talk about it again. As an adult I found out that my aunt had been so scared of a presence that she felt in the cottage that she had had a priest round to bless the place soon after she moved in.

Also as a young child I had an out of body experience. I was walking into the field at the bottom of the garden on a beautiful morning and I felt my footsteps getting lighter and I just sort of drifted upwards. I could clearly see the top of my head as a floated above myself and everything was lighter and almost like a bleached filter had been applied around me. I then floated back down and settled back into my body and felt my feet make contact with the ground again. It was bizarre but lovely! Still can't explain it.

@Crediton I actually admire how calm you was about it all "Well I can never go in the main lounge again". Respect! Shock I'd have ran out the house and refused to go backBlush

Crediton · 07/03/2018 19:14

@taffet I think I was in shock! Have never felt such hostility. I moved out pretty quick smart after that.

Really enjoyed reading this thread, and all the eerie goings on!

BeansandSausages · 10/03/2018 07:54

I can distinctly remember following a cat at my parents behind a door but nothing was there. They have always buried our cats on their land.

Not spooky as such, but I always seem to feel subtle things - like a light on upstairs or can sense something electrical - dh says no that light is off etc, but it isn't. He laughs as he says he can never sense any of the things I can. It's hard to explain but I seem to pick things up - I think this is quite common though?

I had very vivid dreams, which weren't as obvious as this is a boy/girl, but nodded to the sex of my children. They were right each time. Dh refused to believe me!

Mother's intuition is probably a whole other thread but so, so many things I have known. The doctors have always said listen to it and tell us!

WheresTheHooferDoofer · 10/03/2018 19:02

I saw a man on top of the bank of the cutting, looking down at the train. He had dark skin and was dressed in animal skins, holding a spear.

If this was in the UK, you may be interested in this report about the looks of ancient Britons.

@writersblock, just look at your birth certificate. Twins always have the time of birth written as well, don’t know why.

TooManyPaws · 10/03/2018 21:19

@writersblock, I was just about to say the same as Life. I think the time is due to needing to know the elder for inheritance etc previously. However, in Scotland all birth certificates have the time on; I vaguely remember from a first year law course that you don't legally come of age until it's exactly 18 years to the minute since you were born or something like that, rather than just the day.

DaisyInTheChain · 11/03/2018 13:45

Just popping a post on as I came here to continue reading them after I spooked myself last night. (A shelf creaked - oh the fear Grin)

A few months ago I was giving my baby a bottle around 3am and then I'd go downstairs and express (sounds ridiculous but worked at the time for me to get more sleep in the long run!) I was sat in my back room watching Liar as id recorded it. The room is an extension on the house and the door is a really heavy one. The door was pushed almost closed and slowly opened almost all the way, slowly. I couldn't take my eyes off it and was frozen. Took me a while to pelt it back upstairs. I was so scared. A for days afterwards was quite frightened.
Last Monday I was playing with my son and he was in his walker. In the front room we've got carpet so I was about to put him on the carpet to see if he could get his walker to move on there. He was jumping around and we were laughing because he was making it quite difficult! I glanced up and one of the smaller cushions leant forward and then dropped back into place. As if someone had just stood up as we walked in. This time i wasn't scared at all.

There have been 2 times I've seen something on the baby monitor too.

Youaremysunshine2017 · 11/03/2018 21:34

Excuse the typos- sleep deprivation! Also, re the cushions I meant it was on the sofa!

I've posted about this one before. Years ago I used to do the boring commute to and from London, and one night a week I'd usually work quite late, leaving the office around 7pm. This meant that I had to get the stopping train home, rather than the fast train.
They had these horrible old style trains with a rubber casing on the button to open the doors, which were situated in the middle of the carriage only, which they used for the slow service I took.
One evening I'd got on and had a seat close to the back of the carriage, where the connecting door was. The train was reasonably full, but as we moved along the route, the passengers thinned out. I was reading a book, but wasn't fully engrossed as I wanted to be aware of my surroundings. As I was reading, a man got up from the seats in front of me and went to stand by the doors in the centre of the carriage. We approached the second-last stop, the doors opened and closed and several people go off. I glanced up to see he hadn't, so assumed he'd thought we were at the next (and final stop).
I returned to my book and a few minutes later we reached the last stop. I put my book in my bag, got up, and went to stand by the doors, pressed the button and got off.
The I realised I hadn't passed anyone.
Nobody had passed me.
I thought the man might have walked into the next carriage (walking away from me) but when I got off, I was one of only two people. And the other one was a woman.

Loving this... Grin

Some of the ‘ghosts’ are time shifts, and you will be a ‘ghost’ to them.

itstimeforanamechange · 12/03/2018 12:18

When I was 3-7 we lived in a 1930s bungalow. My parents say there was a ghost. My father in particular was not the sort of person to believe in ghosts.

It was always the same - a lady in a grey hood sort of walked out of the fireplace and across the room and disappeared.

Both my parents saw it at different times and mentioned it when out with some colleagues of my father's. My mum was really surprised he admitted to seeing it. I suppose it was a sort of natural recording, and when the atmospherics etc were right it "replayed"? My mum said she saw it a few times and it was always the same.

I can't remember seeing anything.

itstimeforanamechange · 12/03/2018 12:22

*When I was staying in Edinburgh for work years ago, I stayed in the Radission Hotel. I think the city is slightly spooky anyway but my hotel room had a woman in rags crouching in the corner of the room. Looking on the Internet now it is haunted apparently! I’ve just read that there is a girl in rags who crouches in door ways and runs around!

“Though the building is relatively new, the ground it occupies is impossibly old and riddled with the catacombs known as the underground vaults. This structure was literally built on top of homes where hundreds perished from the Black Plague*

Gosh. I've stayed there! Loved it. Didn't know it was haunted!

ImListening · 12/03/2018 20:06

Love this thread! Fifi can you explain about time shifts please?

Myusernameisunique · 26/03/2018 19:09

I see the spiders! I didn't even think anything of it until I read this thread. I also suffer from sleep paralysis/hallucinations.

DairyisClosed · 26/03/2018 19:22

Not creepy so much as sad. My eldest keeps asking to me 'Auntie's baby'. His only aunt in struggling to find someone to have children with a frequently expresses concern that she won't end up having any. Obviously we will all help her if she decides to go it alone and I can provide donor eggs or whatever but she's still worried about it. But he is so insistent that he wants to meet her baby. I really hope he does one day.

DairyisClosed · 26/03/2018 19:23

Oh and 'we are going to crash into the ground!' for half an hour before every plan landing ever (he can feel the plan descending). He sounds so damn cheerful about it too. I just hope he doesn't give someone a panic attack one day.

expatinscotland · 26/03/2018 19:49

I love these threads!

I saw a. Psychic last month. I turned up no appointment and Steph didn’t even know my first name but asked as I sat down.

She knew my children’s names, that my dd was abroad, that my dh was launching a new business, she knew what the business was, no one knows this but dh snd I. She mentioned a baby to b born and a specific name. A boys name.

She knew my parents were struggling and most wierd of all she said my mil, whose been dead for 19 years, she knew her name, was worried about a specific medical condition dh has. Again no one knows about this but dh and I!

My neice is 9 months pregnant and if she calls her baby this name that will b very very wierd.
