I think he'd get away with it if he allowed SecDef to be the lead on the day. Americans seem to have an ..........interesting relationship with their military. I recall a close acquaintance telling me about a visit to American family - Democrats all - where some jet fighters were dive bombing the neighbourhood and doing 'fighter-jock' things in the sky. He was just about to phone the Base Commander (in high dudgeon) to complain about the noise. when he saw that all the US relations were sitting there contentedly, sipping their juleps (or whatever) and intoning - quite genuinely - 'Ahhhhhh. The Sound Of Freedom..........'

Unfortunately for him, I doubt that 45 will be able to resist being the centre of things. Displays Of vainglory won't go down well.

I know Trump's military parade is obviously going to be the biggest and the bestest, etc but I can't help be a little bemused at all the people talking as if it is only dictatorships that have military parades. We do have them in the UK to, and the only reason trump wants one is because Macron had one when he was over there. I don't remember anyone saying Macron was being dictatory by having one.

Now I'm not a fan of them full stop to be honest, but if would be nice if people were consistent about their sudden dislike of it. We regularly seem to have a the military marching down our high street. It involves them putting special covers on all the bins and is a bit of a bother as you can't anywhere. They hand out flags to school kids and if you don't look suitably impressed and patriotic there is a distinct air of general disapproval.

If (and that's a massive 'if') 45 resigns, he'll do it after the Midterms, blaming GOP ineptitude. The GOP are finished.

I reckon it's the 'personal'/personality aspect, Bigly.

So the WH hired Porter, or kept him on staff, after the FBI was told he abused two women. Because of these reports, he was denied a full security clearance, but they let him continue serving in a senior job handling classified info. His resignation alone isn't nearly enough here.

I can't imagine that happening in the UK. I mean it's nice to see ceremonial soldiers and I have been to a lot of military parades - but to have hardware as well rolling down the streets? That seems excessive.
