Devin Nunes Gets A Pretty Basic Fact Wrong In Defending His Memo
Nunes suggested that Donald Trump had never met with George Papadopoulos. There's a photo of them sitting at the same table.

And we certainly didn't have a national security meeting right here:

A friend with experience in the intel world said something to me today that has stayed with me: that the Trump ICE raids terrorizing COC have the feel of filling a quota, and doing so by going after immigrants who will be easy to arrest (non-violent people with community ties...

Lunchtime speed-reading posts here today. (Thanks Pain for your amazing dedication! Smile)

But now have a need for my 5 minutes of despair. What disgusting, inhumane people they all are.

blueskyinmarch · 13/02/2018 14:31

The whole ICE raids thing make me feel physically sick. I almost can't quite believe they do this. Except they do. It is inhumane.

Not a problem at all northwest! Am trying to restrict posting time, especially as it's half term, but all it means is that the posts are excessively long

There's a lot going on with the senate intelligence hearings re: russia and also security clearances this afternoon - will try to condense into manageable posts although the hearings are still ongoing so this isn't by any means complete

Russia interference:

Heading into Senate Intel hearing, Ron Wyden criticized the leadership over the direction of the committee’s Russia investigation, telling us it has not been focused on “following the money”

In the past month, Coats, Tillerson, and Pompeo have all proclaimed Russian election interference inevitable.

View this in context of Trump admin refusal to enact sanctions on Russia, illicit meetings with spies, and obstruction of investigation. Their inaction is intentional.

Warner [at hearing]: Can you reconfirm to the public that the IC understands the Russian threat? It's been a year and there's been no decrease in Russian activity, and more intent to intervene.

Everyone asked agrees it will not stop.

Senator King: The entire IC agrees that Russia interfered in 2016 and will interfere again. The only person who disagrees is Trump, and he's misinforming my constituents. So are you going to convince Trump to tell the truth?

Senator King: We have no doctrine of deterrance against cyber attacks; we are doing nothing; there have been no repercussions for Russia. We need a clear doctrine that establishes consequences.

Another reason that “waiting for November” is a bad Democratic strategy. Russia is ready to help Trump steal ANY election. He has to go.

FBI Director Wray on Rob Porter background check:

• Submitted partial report in March
• Completed background investigation in late July
• Received request for follow up, provided info in Nov.
• Closed the file in Jan.

• Received and passed on new info earlier this month

Judd Legum
@JuddLegum

  1. Wow.

Trump's hand-picked FBI Director just revealed that the White House has been blatantly lying about the Rob Porter domestic abuse scandal

goo.gl/XSJBhf

  1. The White House claim again and again and again was that Porter's background check was "ongoing" and they needed to complete the process

THIS WAS A LIE, ACCORDING TO WRAY

The background check formally ended in January

  1. It's actually even worse than this, the FBI submitted an interim report in MARCH and its final report in JULY, then updated it with a bit more info in November.

The background check has been over for a long time.

  1. This is important because it establishes, definitively, that the White House knew about Porter's history for months but did nothing.

The FBI closed the investigation without issuing a security clearance, the White House still did nothing

  1. Why did the White House repeatedly lie about the background check being ongoing? Did they think they wouldn't get caught? Did they believe that Wray would refuse to disclose this information?

Who knows, but it was a huge miscalculation

[a reminder that Wray is a Trump appointee]

Obviously won’t comment on contents of an OTR meeting. But I approached WH that morning w reporting that Porter had resigned. They told me to come in for meeting. Porter answered our qs & I think it’s very clear from all our reporting that we’re unsatisfied with the explanation.

But a new Politico report contradicts that: Sanders arranged an off-the-record meeting with 4 reporters so Porter could relay his version of events.
