Devin Nunes Gets A Pretty Basic Fact Wrong In Defending His Memo
Nunes suggested that Donald Trump had never met with George Papadopoulos. There's a photo of them sitting at the same table.

And we certainly didn't have a national security meeting right here:

According to the U.S. government, the Border Patrol has the right to question anyone on any vehicle about their citizenship within 100 miles of a boundary - which means all or almost all of 11 states. My story on the “100-mile zone” near Canada:

To the U.S. Border Patrol, their jurisdiction includes anything within 100 miles of the borders — a zone that spans several entire states

U.S. border agents are not only patrolling the country’s frontiers for illegal crossers. Under a 1953 federal regulation, they are questioning and detaining American citizens travelling well within U.S. boundaries

And a very terrifying thread:

Mikki Kendall
@Karnythia
What if I told you that some of you aren't safe from ICE just because you were born here? Would that wake you up? I'm curious
I know that if any official decided to make a fuss about my birth certificate (I was born in 1976, got an official birth certificate in 1989) I would be hard pressed to prove birthright citizenship
Baby Girl Gamble aka me was born in Cook County hospital. I was issued a record of live birth. Not a birth certificate because I wasn't named. No dad on the birth certificate & my mother was 19.
Now all signs point to my bio das being American just like my mother. But I filled out my birth certificate right before high school. If someone decides my paperwork looks funny in the light I will be fighting in court & maybe reportable. No one knows. That's just one example
People with home births, especially those whose parents were avoiding the government (I am looking at you survivalist, separatists, religious abstainers & so on), they already struggle to get basic paperwork as adults. I was lucky to get mine easily.
And we have the resources to fight a while or to move abroad on an artist visa. But a lot of folks who think this can't touch them need to wake up. Undesirables, chain migration, etc? All terms that will push out even people from families who are multi gen Americans.
Now is a great time to understand that the "slide into an authoritarian state" will absolutely have consequences for everyone. You aren't safe.
Your neighbors aren't safe & neither are your relatives. Especially not if the "anchor baby" asshats get their way & torpedo birthright citizenship. You should be fighting them. Not voting for them.

Hend Amry‏Verified account
@LibyaLiberty
The authoritarian state will find reasons to revoke the citizenship of naturalized, then native-born citizens. The first part has already begun.
When I had my second daughter we had already moved abroad for work as a family, but I stayed behind to give birth on US soil. Everyone told me I was being paranoid, that I was a US citizen so my kids would be. But I'm one generation away from refugee status. Those memories last.
...but even US-born citizenship is no guarantee if the rights and values of the nation become eroded. Depending on your race/religion/political activity, you can never really take that kind of security for granted.
This erosion always starts at the dark margins,of course. When people talk about revoking citizenship for convicted terrorists for example, my blood runs cold. Not b/c I care about terrorists but because it represents the erosion of a fundamental right,& that erosion WILL spread.
Case in point:

They admit to reporters how little he studies the basics of domestic policy and national security; how partial he is to autocrats like himself; how indifferent he is to allies. They are shocked, they proclaim, absolutely shocked.
