Sat watching this now.

I do not accept the view that those 2 boys were treated unfairly. They murdered that poor little boy and they knew what they were doing and that it was wrong.

They should be rotting in jail. Aibu to say justice not served??

This case has been put in the forefront again, so yes people will have an opinion on it, you cannot stop free speech. Denise and Ralph have got every right to fight for justice for their dear boy, I bet you would do the same if you were unfortunately in her position. Justice has not been done, they only got 8 years, that is nothing at all, and JV is still reoffending and does not appear to be 'rehabilitated' at all, in fact he is enjoying the notoriety that this brings.

Aeroflotgirl · 07/02/2018 10:30

If you are really concerned, ask MN to delete the threads on this case.

gingergenius · 07/02/2018 10:32

@ReanimatedSGB insure James bulger's parent would be delighted to hear you calling them stupid and accusing the of 'baying for blood'

How insensitive.

gingergenius · 07/02/2018 10:32

I'm sure

I've just seen on bbc news that Veneables has pleaded guilty to 'making indecent images of children'.

Sorry to ask this - does this mean he was actually committing abuse (as in first hand) to make those images?

BakedBeans47 · 07/02/2018 10:37

Denise Fergus is not baying for blood. I have read things where she has clearly said she understood that they wouldn’t have been locked up for life but she was clearly still unhappy with the sentences. Who can blame her. I think she’s conducted herself over the past 25 years with incredible grace.

Aeroflotgirl · 07/02/2018 10:39

So what you are saying that, is Denise and Ralph should put it behind them now, and get over it! How nasty! They will never recover again, and to expect them to move on is very insensitive and unkind.

Butterymuffin · 07/02/2018 10:41

It would help if people didn't keep quoting / rehashing the most insensitive comments. It'll make it harder for MN to edit, which I think they should.

sashh · 07/02/2018 10:45

The thought that he is undoubtedly around children. Neighbours, in supermarkets etc makes my skin crawl.

Do you feel the same about Baby P's mother?

William Kepple?

Both received short sentences for killing a child.

Yes Sashh, I do, the sentences are a joke, its insulting. Life is not life anymore.

Jux · 07/02/2018 11:04

So does Venables now deserve continued anonymity? My own thought is that that is no longer necessary or deserved.

Elendon · 07/02/2018 11:05

Venables clearly isn't rehabilitated, as I've said before. He went to the same unit as Mary Bell.

Oh and unfortunately not all paedophiles are in prison, the majority of them never get caught or are prosecuted. So they may well be your neighbour, working with children, and going into supermarkets.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-42972085

The link above is regarding Venables.

Jux · 07/02/2018 11:05

Aeroflot, I'm not sure 'life' ever was 'life'. Not always.

Lizzie48 · 07/02/2018 11:05

Of course @sashh I feel exactly the same way about those people.

Elendon · 07/02/2018 11:06

Jux Venables has siblings and by all accounts his family life was a lot more stable than Thompson's.

It would not be fair to his relatives to out him now. They would be hounded by the press.

sashh · 07/02/2018 11:23

Lizzy and Aero

OK, just interested.

babyccinoo · 07/02/2018 11:24

So does Venables now deserve continued anonymity? My own thought is that that is no longer necessary or deserved.

It was the court/government who allowed their identities to be revealed, and subsequently had to give them new identities. They can't now give them their original identities, regardless of what is 'deserved'.

gluteustothemaximus · 07/02/2018 12:02

The thing is, if no one had ever known their names in the first place, then they would have been living amongst us, and no one would have known.

It's exactly the same as them having new identities.

It was our fault for revealing the names. But that was necessary, because people were being wrongly identified.

Having new identities is the only answer here, because any other answer involves everyone knowing them and within a very short space of release, they would have been killed.

And that just can't be the way society operates. Despite how much hatred we feel for what they did.

bettytaghetti · 07/02/2018 12:10

In the BBC link that Elendon posted this stands out:

A report found Venables was a "high risk of real harm to children" in the future, the court was told.
It states that he has a "long-term and profound interest in children".
The court also heard that as he was being taken to a police station, Venables admitted he had "let people down".
He said: "This is my own fault. I have let people down again."

And yet he has just been sentenced to only 3 years 4 months.

Jux · 07/02/2018 12:28

His family have new identities? or was it just him?

Well, I guess it doesn't matter whether he still has anonymity or not.

BlooperReel · 07/02/2018 12:33

This case is too emotive for me to give a rational view to be honest. My heart goes out to James' family first and foremost. I can't get past how terrified he must have been. :( And that colours my view entirely.

Aeroflotgirl · 07/02/2018 12:37

jux, a lot longer than what they got.

MrsPreston11 · 07/02/2018 12:38

I think the latest news goes to show that this man is not safe to be out in public now.

He's had so many chances.

Just 3 years in prison for that is a joke.
