He just went and got me a cup of tea and a hot cross bun. He only put butter one one side. One fucking side Angry. What sort of deviant eats hot cross buns either a) without butter, or b) like a sandwich. I'm ltb.

OP posts:
BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 07/02/2018 02:29

Hot cross Bun any day of the year for me!

Mcakes · 07/02/2018 07:19

Ahhhh, I think mudskipper may have misunderstood. Did you think by saying 'both sides' we're talking about buttering the tops and bottoms of our buns as well as the inside smooth cut surfaces?
To be really clear, by 'one side' the OP meant that her soon-to-be-EX DH only buttered one of the cut surfaces. Leaving her with the impossible choice of either eating the 2 halves together as a sandwich (WTF??) or eating one half deliciously buttered and the other dry and bare Sad

sashh · 07/02/2018 07:26

I believe there is probably an intervention that could be done to stop this deviant behaviour. You need all his friends and family there to tell him the impact of his behaviour on them.

LakieLady · 07/02/2018 07:50

My relationship is over.

DP has just refused to drive to the supermarket get me some angry rabbits and bring them straight back on the utterly spurious grounds that it would make him late for work.

Given that I can't drive (recent shoulder surgery) and the buses won't be running because we have at least 1 whole cm of snow on our steep hill, this means that there will be no HCBs in my house until gone 6 pm.

HIBVU, isn't he? His only mitigation is that he at least knows they have to be buttered, lavishly, on both sides.

MrPan · 07/02/2018 07:54

Get all your ducks in a row, as heavily advertised around here.

Then eat them. Well buttered.

NurseButtercup · 07/02/2018 08:07

Op, I'm sad to break this to you, but your husband was clearly raised by wolves.

Now can we cast a vote on which is better:
M&S salty caramel and chocolate hot cross buns

or

Tesco chocolate chip & salted caramel Hot cross buns.

With tea or hot chocolate??

The diet has been paused to engage in this little feast 😄

HairsprayBabe · 07/02/2018 08:23

My MIL once served me untoasted HCB with butter... DP did not support me in my silent outrage. He doesn't like HCB at all due to "raisins".

So I am thinking LTB and go NC with MIL?

PenguinsandPandas · 07/02/2018 11:24

Why the or NurseButtercup surely its and. Have them all.

Plus you can still be a healthy eater from DDs school form, the question on desserts simply asked how often do you have sweets a week. DD came out as a healthy eater as she doesn't eat sweets much, just chocolate, cake and biscuits. HCBs aren't listed so must be healthy. Infact you could tick the brown bread box for 2 points for them. Grin

I'm suspicious of MrsMud only woman on here who admits to only buttering one side, probably has green bits on sandwiches too. Not having an affair with the OPs husband are you or my husband for that matter? If you are I need him Thursday nights for the bins.

whiskyowl · 07/02/2018 14:16

My mother used to buy teacakes and tell me they were hot cross buns without the expense of the cross. They so are not.

MerryMarigold · 07/02/2018 14:56

I butter both sides AND THEN SANDWICH THEM TOGETHER WITH MARMALADE, UNTOASTED. I don't care if I'm a philistine. I love it.

callmekitten · 07/02/2018 15:02

My dh only butters the center of toast. Not to the edges.

Mine does this too...so wrong! I want butter on all the bites! But he does make the absolute best peanut butter and marmalade toast so I keep him around anyway.

StripySocksAndDocs · 07/02/2018 15:04

Thing is about MrsMud is, PenguinsandPandas she's either:

● buttering only one side of a cut HUB
● thinks we all mean we think you should butter the top and bottom of each side.

If it's the former she's depraved, if the latter insane. We wait with baited breath.

StripySocksAndDocs · 07/02/2018 15:04

HUB = HCB

midnightmisssuki · 07/02/2018 15:14

WTF - which husband would even dream to do this?! Mine butters both and brings the butter dish up with him.....

PenguinsandPandas · 07/02/2018 15:26

I'm waiting with baited butter SSD and I suspect its the latter and also men may target women like this for affairs as they will believe anything.

I impressed Midnight, maybe you could run train you DH courses.

speedynamechange73 · 07/02/2018 16:17

Mine won't eat hot cross bums, doesn't like the dried fruit. Not a problem as it means more for the rest of us. However, he has no idea how to serve them either and toasts them far too much, I'd go as far as to say burns them. Then waves them past the butter.

This is when he's making them for the kids. Naturally he's wasn't trusted to prepare mine as he also suffers from the almost-entirely-male-specific illness of spreading butter simply in the middle of toast.

Sadly though, I can no longer enjoy wheat products without unpleasant side effects.

So I just eat butter off the spoon. Sometimes with marmalade/jam. I realised that all bread things were simply a vehicle for salted butter. This way is much better.

trevortrevorslattery · 07/02/2018 16:19

WTF?? The hills are that way OP, >>>>>>>>>>

RUN!!!!!

blamethecat · 07/02/2018 16:27

I worry about my ds he likes his HCB, raw(not toasted) and unbuttered, last night he had plain pasta and refused many offers of Parmesan on top of it. Sometimes I swear he was switched at birth.

PenguinsandPandas · 07/02/2018 16:28

Hot cross bums Speedy 😂

trevortrevorslattery · 07/02/2018 16:31

Now I've read the thread... Booths

Gazelda · 07/02/2018 16:54

I think that the expertise and knowledge on this thread is a clear demonstration that @mumnset should be offering us up to This Morning, Take-A-Break, The One Show, Good Housekeeping etc as this year's HCB Taste Testers.
I'm sure we'd all happily spend a week in Gino's kitchen comparing all the different versions from M&S, Waitrose, Booths etc and then give the definitive verdict to the nation.

lifechangesforeverinjuly · 07/02/2018 17:00

Just imagine if DH brought you a hot cross bun with a wedge of CHEESE on it.

I couldn't believe it the first time he made me one. Apparently it's a thing in Halifax, Im only from down the road but it's definitely just for butter!

CatchIt · 07/02/2018 17:10

W. T. F.

Honestly op, did you not think before you got together with this man he might be the type to only butter one side of a hot cross bun?

You've only yourself to blame.

DizzyBlondeMum2 · 07/02/2018 17:10

OK. You should LTB for not meeting your HCB needs - they are fundamental. HCB are my desert island food (if I'm only allowed one food its what I want - delicious, filling and with all that dried peel to avoid scurvy).

However, I like mine that way. Untoasted, heavily buttered on one side and squiggled back together.

Prepares to be flamed. But toasted gives me indigestion??

Promise I am not having an affair with anyone's DH.

CatchIt · 07/02/2018 17:12

@SleightOfMind
"I think you should be prepared to discover he’s been putting the milk in first for some time now too"

I bet he is the type, dirty fucker.
