He just went and got me a cup of tea and a hot cross bun. He only put butter one one side. One fucking side Angry. What sort of deviant eats hot cross buns either a) without butter, or b) like a sandwich. I'm ltb.

I like raw hot cross buns with butter & strawberry jam.
Am I a man?

floriad · 07/02/2018 21:57

I don't really eat hot cross buns.

Well, they don't exist where we currently live. But not even when we were still UK based.

I mean, I'll eat one if someone were to hand me one (obviously). But Idk, I wouln't go out of my way to buy one...

Hoppinggreen · 07/02/2018 21:59

life no it’s bloody not.
I grew up in Fax and now live T’other side of Ainley Top and I’ve never heard of such deviancy

tapdancingmum · 07/02/2018 22:08

lifechangesforeverinjuly and Hoppinggreen. I am a Southerner by birth but my mum comes from Skipton and had never heard of having a wedge of cheese on HCB or even tea cakes. I was taught this delicacy by my MIL who originated from County Durham. I'm afraid I can't eat either of these without lashings of butter and cheese. I had a tea cake the other day and DD2 asked if she could have one and asked me if I was having it without cheese, when I said No she replied 'thank god for that, I thought you were ill' so I'm afraid my two more southern daughters have been tainted by this deviancy as you call it Grin

wanderings · 08/02/2018 07:34

Oh dear OP, are you now a hot cross bunny?

FGS...

In this long thread, complete with "ducks in a row", has nobody mentioned the traditional (and really obviously related!!!!) punishment?

"Next... Crucifixion? Good. Out of the door, line on the left, one hot cross bun each."

I'm not. Dh is dead to me
Mrsmadevans · 08/02/2018 09:13

Is this a taat ? Grin

moolady1977 · 08/02/2018 09:24

I don't like hcb but when doing them for my parents or dp I always toast them and butter both sides

BitOutOfPractice · 08/02/2018 09:25

OP He's not sorry he did it, only sorry he was caught (by you quite rightly refusing to eat the HCB in a sandwich stylee)

lifechangesforeverinjuly · 08/02/2018 11:00

Ahhhh the County Durham thing makes sense then, as that's where his grandparents are from and they moved to the Fax!

Sunnyilo · 08/02/2018 11:32

Ohhh dear ...

ginch · 08/02/2018 11:35

Durham.......aaahhhh, my step dad came from Durham, he used to eat his yorkshire pud on a separate plate before his dinner.

There are some weird ways in Durham.

MulhuddartDrive · 08/02/2018 12:09

Oh, how exciting, this is on discussion of the day.

OP posts:
BitOutOfPractice · 08/02/2018 12:12

It's a burning issue OP

MulhuddartDrive · 08/02/2018 12:17

I will tolerate hot, but definitley not burnt cross buns, Bit. Burning them is without doubt unacceptable.

OP posts:
PenguinsandPandas · 08/02/2018 13:16

I may be misreading but I read Bit as meaning to burn the husband not the HCB Grin

morningconstitutional2017 · 08/02/2018 14:10

Blimey. Plenty of butter on both sides please and no scraping the excess away.

PenguinsandPandas · 08/02/2018 14:34

I think the male buttering thing may start early. DS 11 and ASD made me a piece of bread of which he had done the butter in beautiful exactly square 0.5 inch pieces with a 0.5 inch gap between each one both ways with 4 rows. Very sweet of him and so precise I did wonder if he needed a ruler. Clearly gaps are essential for the male.

VQ1970 · 08/02/2018 15:03

I don't mind if my hcb is not toasted but it must be thickly buttered on both sides with salted Guernsey butter. All other butter is inferior and will not do.

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 08/02/2018 15:04

I could definitely see DS 27 doing that! 😂

QueenOfAccidentalDeathStares · 08/02/2018 15:07

angry rabbits??

speedynamechange73 · 08/02/2018 15:45

penguins people like to correct me over the buns/bums thing but I've got so used to calling them hot cross bums that buns sounds wrong. Plus hot cross bums makes me laugh (I don't have a social life).

speedynamechange73 · 08/02/2018 15:46

But I do know how to spread butter to the edges unlike the men in my life

StripySocksAndDocs · 08/02/2018 20:23

Hot cross bun(nnies) = angry rabbits, QueenOfAccidentalDeathStares

AmICuteOrWhat · 08/02/2018 22:29

I hate when people are butter stingies. They deserve to be force-fed benecol or flora

AmICuteOrWhat · 08/02/2018 22:30

Stripy Never make a rabbit angry. They can rapid fire you with little Nesquik ball things!
