Trampoline Ettiquette

We've just moved into a new house and we're trying to think where to erect the kid's trampoline.
I want to put it up round the corner (L shaped garden) so we don't have the eyesore of having it directly outside our living room window..
OH says that if we put it round the corner it'll be impacting on the neighbors because it overlooks their garden, which isn't fair on them.

Who's right?

You just need to make sure that the person who bears the most inconvenience from the trampoline is you, unfortunately.

AllButterShortbread · 04/02/2018 16:08

Your dh of course. It’s your trampoline. Unlucky if you don’t like the look of it really. I’d be really pissed off if my neighbours put a trampoline overlooking our garden.

blueCanvas · 04/02/2018 16:08

Put it where you want, it's your garden. If the neighbours get uncomfortable with happy children then tell them to get a grip. Smile

Wolfiefan · 04/02/2018 16:10

If your children are on the trampoline they won't be staring over the fence at the neighbours though?! Can't see an issue.

TheQueenOfWands · 04/02/2018 16:10

Eyesore?

Your children having fun?

Who wouldn't want to see the fruit of their loins bouncing up and down?

TellsEveryoneRealFacts · 04/02/2018 16:11

Yeah what better thing to have to look out at all summer long is bouncing kids next door. And who doesn't love the screaming that goes with it?

BouncethfOFF · 04/02/2018 16:12

Seems like a mixed bag of opinions.

DH is right. Plus trampolines can be quite dangerous, don't you want to see what DC are up to on it?

MumGoneMild · 04/02/2018 16:13

Surely you have it in vriw so you can supervise from inside

Natsku · 04/02/2018 16:13

Having it outside the living room is really handy as you can keep an eye on them when they're using it without having to be outside.

DingDongDenny · 04/02/2018 16:14

Absolutely agree - no way should you be inconvenienced by noise and the unsightly trampoline. Far better if your neighbours are

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 04/02/2018 16:15

Has to be in your eyeline not your neighbours.
Otherwise you're being a CF

WingsofNylon · 04/02/2018 16:15

DH is right, you are wrong.

Spartaca · 04/02/2018 16:15

It should impact you more than them.

BernardSpilsbury · 04/02/2018 16:16

I'm quite selfish naturally so would initially go with the neighbours having to look at it.
Your DH is probably right though, I'd go with him.

JakeBallardswife · 04/02/2018 16:16

Why not get one that goes into the ground?

bigbluebus · 04/02/2018 16:16

Most of our neighbours seem to move them around - presumably to save the grass underneath them - so it's never in the same place all the time. Perhaps that would be a compromise - share the inconvenience!

RedRobin87 · 04/02/2018 16:17

Well considering YOU don't want to have to look at it, your neighbours certainly wouldn't want to you so can't put it closer to them.

babyccinoo · 04/02/2018 16:18

If you don't want to look at it, why should your neighbours have to see bopping kids? Be considerate.

FancyNewBeesly · 04/02/2018 16:20

Wherever is safe - so not next to a wall ideally - and somewhere you can see it. Most people don't realise how dangerous trampolines can be (take it from someone who broke their arm during training, and saw several kids come off nastily!)

Littlewhitedove · 04/02/2018 16:28

Sorry...we have neighbours who have their trampolines against the fence nearest to us and it is a pain. Apart from the fact that we feel our privacy is impacted, the shrieking and screaming actually stops us from sitting out on some days. If you don't want the eyesore or noise from a trampoline you should not force it onto your ndn.

DramaAlpaca · 04/02/2018 16:29

Your DH is right.

toriatoriatoria · 04/02/2018 16:30

If say your husband is right... If you don't want to look at it why would your neighbours? Also if you put it in your eyeline then you can species them from the living room.

Tarraleaha · 04/02/2018 16:33

If you think that the trampoline is an eyesore and you don't want to see your kids on it, why on earth would you impose that on a neighbour?
They are noisy too, even when they don't make that squeaky sound.

Trampolines are not mandatory, if it's that much of a nuisance, buy something else for your children.

usualGubbins · 04/02/2018 16:34

I hate trampolines. They are fine in leisure centres with proper, trained supervision, but having had screaming kids bouncing up and down next to our fence in my last house I would have quite happily set the damn thing on fire. Please for good neighbourly relations make sure it's as far away from your neighbours as possible, and make sure your kids aren't screaming like banshees while playing on it!
