Trampoline Ettiquette

We've just moved into a new house and we're trying to think where to erect the kid's trampoline.
I want to put it up round the corner (L shaped garden) so we don't have the eyesore of having it directly outside our living room window..
OH says that if we put it round the corner it'll be impacting on the neighbors because it overlooks their garden, which isn't fair on them.

Who's right?

Your husband is correct.

And Trampolines should be banned unless you don't have neighbours within half a mile .

Had neighbours with trampoline in the past 4 kids screaming all day in the height of summer

CheesyWeez · 04/02/2018 17:19

My mum is totally intimidated by her neighbours now they've put a trampoline in their garden and the kid bobs up over the fence shouting "hello old lady" at her. When I lived there we used to not listen to the radio in the garden as we knew other people were out quietly enjoying their gardens all around us.

My advice is to research sunken trampolines as PP have suggested. They look lovely, are flat, you don't have to dig as much as you'd think, only the middle needs to be deep. Also the kids don't fall so far as it's already on ground level so you might not feel the need for the nets around it.

If this is for real, I feel sorry for your DC.It isn't nice when parents set their child up to be a target of other peoples annoyance/ hatred. Don't you want people to like your dc?
Also you should really be able to monitor the trampoline, for safety reasons

Royalfuckup · 04/02/2018 17:21

When we entertain, I don't want shrieking children spoiling things for us.
I'd rather they overlooked the neighbor's garden.

Hahahahahahahaha Grin

Thanks for the laugh OP! Best thing I’ve read today 😂

TheQueenOfWands · 04/02/2018 17:22

Do you think they'll soon be banned?

The deeds on our house say we're not allowed livestock, including chickens.

Wondering if a similar thing will be done with trampolines.

I'd be hacked off if my neighbour had a trampoline and shrieking children. Luckily they don't.

BouncethfOFF · 04/02/2018 17:23

If it was overlooking my parent garden your kids would get accidentally hosed.

You would seriously do this?
they're children, not cats.

buttfacedmiscreant · 04/02/2018 17:23

How did my children manage to have fun during their short childhood without a trampoline? Oh yeah, because they are kids and there are a million ways to have fun without irritating the neighbours.

Seriously though, why don't you ask the new neighbours and be frank about what it involves. They might not mind... but they probably will.

mimibunz · 04/02/2018 17:23

Our neighbors have a trampoline and the requisite screaming children that go with it. It can get a bit much but after everyone being cooped up inside all winter I brush it off.

TSSDNCOP · 04/02/2018 17:26

It was an accident OP. They happen less when the kids mother is less worried about the view from her deck.

BusterTheBulldog · 04/02/2018 17:27

Urgh, I bet your kids always boot balls at / over fence too. I dread having a neighbour like you. You sound awful.

PavlovianLunge · 04/02/2018 17:27

Not such a mixed bag of opinions now, eh, Bounce.

Still, nicely played, I must say.

BigBaboonBum · 04/02/2018 17:29

I love watching my kids have fun and bouncing on their trampoline... I wouldn’t expect my neighbours to enjoy it though. I wouldn’t like watching theirs either.

Your husband is right

EmpressOfJurisfiction · 04/02/2018 17:31

Sorry OP, I agree with your DH & everyone else. The only people who should be inconvenienced by your kids are you and him.

RedRobin87 · 04/02/2018 17:31

I can't really believe you think it's acceptable to put the trampoline nearer your neighbours when you have admitted that they will be bouncing, screaming and making noise which you don't want to have to listen to!

You are incredibly selfish. More so to think it's ok because they are old - they probably love being in their garden and you want to ruin it?!

As someone else said, if someone was such a twat to put a trampoline next to my fence and subject me to screaming kids staring in my garden, they would accidentally get hosed a few times.

babyccinoo · 04/02/2018 17:32

I hope the neighbours tell you to bounce the fuck off

HermionesRightHook · 04/02/2018 17:32

Of course you're being selfish. Trampolines are ridiculous anyway, but if you have to have one then you need it to be closer to your house than anyone else's.

If you don't like your children shrieking then don't buy them a toy that will make them shriek.

petbear · 04/02/2018 17:33

Utter madness. Put it where you like! No neighbour will give a shit if they can see it from their bedroom.

petbear · 04/02/2018 17:34

Posted too soon!

Also, the kids will be heard just as much from 30 feet away, as 10 feet away!!! Yes really..........

petbear · 04/02/2018 17:36

I just noticed you don't want your OWN kids near your house as they will annoy you OP. And THAT is why you wanna shove 'em away.

Are you kidding? Confused

mslevine86 · 04/02/2018 17:38

Sorry id agree with your DP. The neighbours behind us put a 12 ft trampoline in their garden for the grandkids which is about 5 ft higher than our fence. Our gardens are both quite short and it's right up against the boundary fence. Every single sunny day last year was spoilt by kids bouncing on it screaming and looking into our garden, followed later on by teenagers doing the same. It depends on the length of your garden but I think they're awfully selfish. It's been left up the whole time and is an eyesore, they used to have big pines that gave us privacy but they chopped these down early one morning and put this up...

SirGawain · 04/02/2018 17:40

You would seriously do this? they're children, not cats.
what have you got against cats?
Turn a hose on my cat and where to put your trampoline would be the least of your problems.

TabbyMumz · 04/02/2018 17:42

The thing about trampolines is they tend to attract most of the kids in the street...we've had a trampoline right next to our fence for the last three years and there are often three or four kids on it at a time (counted six once). Aswell as bouncing, and screaming, we get the staring and the commenting when we dare to go out in our garden. Kids even been on it at 7.30 in the morning!!!! Hate trampolines, they should be banned. Take your kids out for a walk instead.

EmpressOfJurisfiction · 04/02/2018 17:43

All your arguments for why the neighbours should suck it up (childhood is so short, they're just children, can't spoil their fun) are equally if not more valid for why you should suck it up instead.

What will you do if your kids come back saying that the neighbours have been asking them not to shriek or not to stare at them?

ToffeeUp · 04/02/2018 17:44

Ofcourse you are selfish, your kids, your inconvenience.

And what is wrong with a bit of water sprayed on your children, surely they won't melt

ineedamoreadultieradult · 04/02/2018 17:46

Surely you need it where you can see it so you can supervise whilst your children break their wrist/ankle/collar bone?
