We have one, DH thought it was terribly extravagant to spend that much when we have a good vacuum but with two dogs I really wanted one for the hairballs which build up. I was vacuuming today and kept getting shocks on my hand from it.

..and I'm really bummed because it is fab in almost every other way.

Yes I have one and no never been shocked by it.
unless it's by the amount of filth it's picked up

buttfacedmiscreant · 04/02/2018 00:42

haha, that I can relate to. I think I could make a new dog from what it picks up.

Which type of handheld? We have one that's got a wall mounted charger and a long attachment thingy, and it's always been fab: no shocks! Is yours still within warranty? Might be worth getting in touch with the manufacturer.

  1. A vacuum cleaner shouldn't be giving you shocks
  2. Dyson has really good customer service
FarmerSee · 04/02/2018 01:09

Ring customer services, you shouldn't be getting shocks. They will replace it.

freddiepurrcury · 04/02/2018 01:13

You should still contact Dyson if you’re out of warranty, they replaced an attachment on my mum’s for free when she’d been out of warranty for years.

buttfacedmiscreant · 04/02/2018 01:21

I tweeted Dyson and they say it is static... hmm

DontCallMeCharlotte · 04/02/2018 01:26

Yep. Happens with my Dyson upright. In our last house and current house. Engineer also said static.

safariboot · 04/02/2018 01:32

Not had that problem, but there was a thread on the forums several months back about it, as well as discussion elsewhere. If it's through the handle, then even if it's from a static buildup I'd say it's bad design that that can go through the handle.

buttfacedmiscreant · 04/02/2018 02:11

Hoovering is not fun without being 'bitten'. I agree safari that it is a bad design.

Do you vacuum different floorings?

If it was static, wouldn’t it be more likely to happyon carpets. Are you also getting the shocks when vacuuming the kitchen?

buttfacedmiscreant · 04/02/2018 02:23

it was on carpet...

We took ours back for a refund because it kept giving us shocks while we were using it. Awful design. Shame really as I really wanted one and was so disappointed! X

bumbleymummy · 04/02/2018 07:42

Yep. Ours gives us shocks too.

StatisticallyChallenged · 04/02/2018 07:54

Ours does this, but only to DH!

MulberryPeony · 04/02/2018 08:14

Never been shocked by mine and I usually get shocks of a lot of things.

Patsypedalo · 04/02/2018 08:17

No shocks here (and I'm v staticky)

tinygirlsmum · 04/02/2018 08:25

I've had this! I think it's from the bit where the charger plugs in! Mine is fine as long as my hand isn't touching that bit!

buttfacedmiscreant · 04/02/2018 08:33

DS tried doing it without touching near where the charger plugs in and got an even better zap.

I asked them if there was a reason theirs did it and no other vacuum I've used on that rug has ever done it.

They didn't reply...

I use mine daily around the house with no problems. I will get shocks when I use it to vacuum the cushions on the garden furniture, every time and it’s not nice! I’m guessing that it must be because the cushions are waterproofed with a coating that builds up static. Maybe your rug has a stain proof coating or something similar.

Baileystruffle · 04/02/2018 22:22

I have had one for years and have never had shocks from it.

Achaemenid · 06/02/2019 23:19

I was tired of getting electric shocks so I made an invention to stop it and just received a full patent on the “Shock Shell”, a device that prevents any static shocks to the hand that fits all Dyson V6 – V8 models. We have opened up an Indiegogo with the option to buy, hopefully, you consider supporting. Thank you. Wish you all the best, Reza. ShockShell link here

Hello, I was getting the shocks in the hand with my V8 so I invented a product that I call Shock Shell and just have opened up an Indiegogo with the option to buy, hopefully, you consider supporting. Thank you. Wish you all the best, Reza & Jen. ShockShell link here
