given that I could just use my phone... it's an expensive i hadn't budgeted into for new car, but it seems silly to have the lovely touch screen but no sat nav installed? Thoughts?

That's a lot of money what car is it

PurpleDaisies · 03/02/2018 21:01

I wouldn’t bother.

AnathemaPulsifer · 03/02/2018 21:01

Just use your phone! In car sat nav usually worse than google anyway.

blackchina · 03/02/2018 21:01

That's a LOT. Most people use their phones for 'sat nav.' Buggared if I'd pay three quarters of a grand for one!

HermioneWeasley · 03/02/2018 21:02

I wouldn’t bother - they are really expensive to update. Usually £200+

Honeybooboo123 · 03/02/2018 21:02

I wish car manufacturers would just build a bog standard Android tablet into the dashboard. It'd do more things than most of their touchscreen implementations, and do them better.

safariboot · 03/02/2018 21:03

It will probably help you resell the car. Of course not everyone plans on reselling soon. As others have mentioned the quality of built-in satnavs can vary and you can't really change it. I'd definitely want to test drive with the satnav before buying.

Thelampshadelady · 03/02/2018 21:04

Mine came with sat nav (second hand) personally I wouldn’t pay extra for it. It isn’t great.

Naty1 · 03/02/2018 21:05

The peugeot one cant even search by postcode. We have to look up the coordinates. Dh wanted the cruise control.

mydietstartsmonday · 03/02/2018 21:06

Yes, leave it out and go and buy a beautiful handbag or shoes

Apollo440 · 03/02/2018 21:07

Not only the initial expense, they'll charge over the odds for updates.

The only advantage over a separate sat nav is no one will break in to steal it, so always remember to remove a separate sat nav from view.

For £250 you can get a sat nav that acts as a dash cam and has lifetime updates.

ineedwine99 · 03/02/2018 21:07

We have it because the car came with it, generally works really well but traffic can be hit and miss, not as reliable as Google

bigsighall · 03/02/2018 21:07

I had one in a Toyota. It was shit. All the in built ones I’ve had have been bad. I stick to google maps now

Scrumptiousbears · 03/02/2018 21:08

How much will they charge you to update it? £150 a go I was charge on my Nissan which they didn't mention until I took delivery of it.

Honeybooboo123 · 03/02/2018 21:08

so just stick to the screen for music and other blue tooth stuff then?

My in car one is really good.

Oblomov18 · 03/02/2018 21:10

No. Too much. I paid £100 for my seat one and it's rubbish.

Bluelady · 03/02/2018 21:10

I've got in my Toyota and really like it. It's probably not worthwhile unless you drive routes you don't know very often.

FingersCrossedHard · 03/02/2018 21:11

We've just this week updated our car and the new car has one...personally I'm a huge fan so far. It's been good enough that right now, if I had to pay £750 to keep it, I actually think I would!

BarbaraOcumbungles · 03/02/2018 21:11

If the car has Car Play you can just use your phone.

fleetingthinker · 03/02/2018 21:13

I think they're a waste if money and technology is changing all the time. Apps like WAZE are far better than stat navs these days.

londonrach · 03/02/2018 21:19

My second hand sat nav cost me £25. Works great for us. No way pay that much for it. No idea how you ever got phone to do this. Soooo glad ive not got one of those smart phones. My phone rings or texts thats it...no mn,

Raaaaaah · 03/02/2018 21:21

Our built in satnav is rubbish I always use Waze.
