Confused Shock

Just watching a programme and up pops Ronald McDonald, DD comments on how she hates clowns and I say that “RMc isn’t a clown, silly!”. DH and DD look at me as if I’ve lost my mind and tell me that of course he is Hmm. They had a good old laugh.

I’m shocked, I didnt realise he’s a clown, just a man with a painted face and a funny wig...and funny clothes.

So, dear MN who’s right??

DH got all excited earlier. "Why are you on the McDonald's website?"

"Oh, someone on MN thinks Ronald McDonald isn't a clown"

TryAgainAndAgain · 04/02/2018 00:27

Just had a look for Ron McDon memes and saw this one.

LanaKanesLeftNippleTassle · 04/02/2018 00:32

WHY WILL NO ONE THINK OF THE POOR REDUNDANT RONALD??!!

FFS.

No one cares about discarded clowns or brand mascots anymore.

There they are...desperately clinging on to their identity....and all you lot can do is mock.

This video features the first ever Ronald advert where he is repeatedly called a clown.

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 04/02/2018 00:38

Ok so as Op isn't having it i thought id look up what the official line is. Wether mcdonalds call him a clown or a character. And erm www.mcdonalds.com.sg/our-brands/ronald-mcdonalds/

Hes its official spokesperson and ambassador to children. And cheif happiness adviser (im pretty sure thats another word for clown) but apparently hes not a clown.

Presumably though many many children and indeed adults have a fear of clowns so mcdonalds are just saying he isnt a clown for that reason.

Tbf I get why I wouldn't say i have a massive fear of clowns but they freak me out and I can't unsee how much he looks like fucking pennywise goo.gl/images/tbLk5N

Tringley · 04/02/2018 00:39

His full name is Ronald McDonald, the Hamburger Happy Clown.

Ronald MacDonald seems a ridiculously outdated mascot. I don't get why he isn't phased out.

EllenJanethickerknickers · 04/02/2018 00:48

Did the red nose not give it away? Hmm

Mindhunter · 04/02/2018 01:00

He's a clown. I used to dread him turning up at McDonald's birthday parties when I was a child as he's terrifying. Especially that advert where he appeared in the window. On the plus side I still don't like McDonald's because I never wanted to go as a child.

FrayedHem · 04/02/2018 01:18

OP, if it makes you feel better, I asked DH (in McDonald's no less) why Mr Krabs from Spongebob was called Mr Krabs when he was a lobster. (there were happy meal toys). There was further laughing when I said Squidward was an octopus but that is correct (according to Google).

This thread is nearly as mad as "my back is the front of my back"

Oh God, that thread was AGONY.

...definite similarities 🤣😂🤣😂

If it makes you feel any better, I use to think (until fairly recently), that the Orangutang was the only mammal to lay eggs

So now you think other mammals lay eggs too?

ZebraOwl · 04/02/2018 03:34

AnnieAnoniMouse
In the nicest way, I can't figure out how SandyBabyToes got orangutans & platypuses confused like that, either. Did you have orangutans mixed up in your head as a Thing, Sandy, or did you envision ape nests with clutches of eggs in?

Virgil4 · 04/02/2018 07:31

Still not having it...Smile

I think the problem here Is, that if you want us to convince you Ronald MacDonald is a clown it's quite a task. Because no sane person can comprehend how you could possibly think he isn't.

I've a fear of clowns. I've not got a fear of men in make up, wigs and clothes (funny or otherwise). Ronald is frightening; he receives my fear.

StripySocksAndDocs · 04/02/2018 07:45

Oh yes meant to say: dh came home last night and as he was trying to sneak into bed I suddenly sat up as said 'you know Ronald MacDonald?'.

My sudden wakefulness , movement and interjection took him some what by surprise. One should say shock. But still he said 'what the clown?'

Even a person under duress knows.

dontticklethetoad · 04/02/2018 07:46

This thread, honestly. Grin

Groovee · 04/02/2018 07:52

Didn't his large shoes give it away?

Virgil4 · 04/02/2018 08:01

DH thinks I’ve got clown facial blindness Hmm

😂

Mooey89 · 04/02/2018 08:10

OP I can totally see the differences in your comparison pics.

One has orange gloves, the others are white.

Erm.

What did you consider the reasoning behind the red nose if not clown related?

RMC is clearly a retired clown. He did clown related activities in the 80’s, now he chills out on benches with his arm out. (Maybe the next Jimmy Saville scandal?)

Mooey89 · 04/02/2018 08:11

*RMD

CaMePlaitPas · 04/02/2018 08:19

Hahaha - this is the purest thing I've seen on the internet today! Thanks for the laugh OP but yes, he is a clown.

HoosierDaddy · 04/02/2018 08:28

He's a clown OP, McDonald's says so
To be fair... they also say their McNuggets are made from chicken...

DH grew up in a small village in the 70s, where the nearest Maccy D's was probably 5 hours away by car, and they had only 2 tv stations with crap Irish ads about turf, not exotic food stuffs... even he has confirmed that RMD is a clown. He never recognises celebs, so it honestly could've gone either way when I asked him. Sorry OP... he could have been on your team. But he isn't.
