Ronald McDonald is a clown??

Just watching a programme and up pops Ronald McDonald, DD comments on how she hates clowns and I say that “RMc isn’t a clown, silly!”. DH and DD look at me as if I’ve lost my mind and tell me that of course he is . They had a good old laugh.

I’m shocked, I didnt realise he’s a clown, just a man with a painted face and a funny wig...and funny clothes.

So, dear MN who’s right??

Yes, all he does is sit around nonchalantly on benches outside a fast food restaurant. That's not doing funny clown type things.

I got a balloon from him too. He used to be at all the kids' parties, clowning around.

Mr Wimpy was definitely less of an attraction.

I remember going to Milton Keynes, McDonalds in the Eighties for parties and Ronald was definitely the entertainment.

I too remember RM being the entertainment at kids parties in the 80's.
Did all the typical clowny shit like balloon animals and being a bit of a dick.

Can't remember when it stopped.

So he's basically a retired clown, who can't let go. He gets up, puts on his make up and costume, clumps downstairs in his massive (now holey and flapping at the sole) red shoes, and weeps into the first (value) vodka of the day.
He gets pissed and accosts families in the street with condoms turned into sad balloon shapes.

There were two Ronald's in the U.K. and eleven in the US!
The U.K. one (or one of the ones) came to my office in early 90's as I'd done some work for them. He gave his name as Ronald McDonald to security
