Pissed off with reaction to present?

Bought friend birthday present. She opened it and literally looked at it in disgust and just muttered thanks and shoved it back in the bag.

Genuinely thought I’d bought her something she would like - obviously not. Which is fine and you can’t help what you like or dislike but surely most people would at least pretend to like it?

It’s annoyed me so much that I’ve text her to apologise. Aibu?

Harding and Bayliss?

(I'd be very happy with hand-knitted clothes and/or tin of tuna.)

Cagliostro · 04/02/2018 18:03

Was it a fox pouffe from Pedlars?

Wauden · 04/02/2018 18:03

A mug made of bone china when she has turned vegan and you did not think to check on the bottom of the mug? (I very nearly made this mistake - luckily it had a sticker saying, uh, 'bone china'

wizzywig · 04/02/2018 18:06

I want the pat butcher tshirt

DailyMailareDicks · 04/02/2018 18:10

OMG! Just had to Google bone China. I had no idea Blush

Eatalot · 04/02/2018 18:11

It depends on the present. If it was a diet book called 'emergency fat shed for the lazy' or a dildo specifically designed for ladies with bucket fannys, she may have the right to be peeved.

A mug made of bone china when she has turned vegan

Umm, you know bone china isn't made of bone, right? Or am I missing the joke? Grin

SendintheArdwolves · 04/02/2018 18:16

OMG just checked and it totally is! Ignore me - every day is a school day Grin

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 04/02/2018 18:17

I had no idea about the bone China containing bone and animal derivatives

mumof3boys33 · 04/02/2018 18:36

I can’t believe I read this through waiting to hear what the gift was, also the reply from the text, but neither are here.

As I understand it, in this day and age it's very easy to return an unused present so as to receive a refund. Meaning it's easy to say to someone, 'If you don't like it I'll return it and get you something different'. Which seems considerably more useful than an apology. What's the point in wasting so much money plus damaging a friendship?

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 04/02/2018 18:48

To be fair, even if it was a t shirt with Pat Butcher's face on it I think I'd still pretend to be pleased. Possibly wear it next time I saw her?
That's what friends do isn't it?

GracielaSabrocita · 04/02/2018 18:49

Btw the OP is dripfeeding, which is unreasonable. The story is obviously incomplete without some indication of what the present was.

Gabilan · 04/02/2018 18:56

She's not drip feeding Gracie, It would be a drip feed if she came back and said "I gave her a necklace made of horse hair". She's not feeding us at all, that's the problem.

Tiger44 · 04/02/2018 18:56

I'm guessing OP isn't coming back to tell us what it was or whether the friend replied to her text.

Alwaysstressed999 · 04/02/2018 19:00

Raging I read through this whole post and I still don't know what the gift is 🤔🤔

MiddleClassProblem · 04/02/2018 19:02

Yes, it’s not a drip feed, it’s a drought

SpiritedFlame · 04/02/2018 19:03

^^
Same!

SpiritedFlame · 04/02/2018 19:03

*That was all to Alwaysstressed Blush

Zouriss · 04/02/2018 19:10

Actually it does matter what the present was, so you really need to tell us!

Get over yourself love. You bought an unsuitable, possibly shitty gift and you expect gushing thanks.

I’d much rather have genuine reactions than fake gratitude. Just because you love it, doesn’t mean it’s a nice gift.

Primarkismyonlyoption · 04/02/2018 19:12

Joy thats a bit harsh!
