To think that there must be a healthier version of Nutella?

Nutella on toast (wholemeal bread) is all my son will eat for breakfast! (don't waste your time suggesting alternatives!).
Is there a similar tasting chocolate spread which is healthier that I could try?
Preferably one that can be bought in the major supermarkets.
Thanks

Jimjams is great!!

JuliannaBixby · 02/02/2018 14:37

The ChocShot stuff is lovely, as a PP said they do a thicker version I'd definitely try that.

Piffle11 · 02/02/2018 14:37

forgot to tell you what to do ... blitz the nuts in a processor til runny-ish, then add the other ingredients and blitz til at the consistency you want.

I think JeNeSuisPasVotreMiel might have meant that we all eat way more protein than we need, so whether or not there's protein in chocolate & hazelnut spread (I don't understand why people pay two or three times as much just to get a Nutella label on it) isn't really significant.

Protein is essential but unless you're starving it's very difficult not to get enough of it. The recommended daily amount is 0.8 g/kg (so 20 g for a 25 kg boy). There's about 2.5 g of protein in one slice of bread, so he'd already be getting quarter of the daily requirement just from two slices of toast. Sorry for mansplaining.

Exactly, flying!

Thank-you everyone who posted a recipe or link to a recipe for homemade Nutella. OMG I love Nutella too much. My dd loves it too but coz I eat it out of the jar after she goes to bed she only gets it occasionally. I'm wanting to cut down on sugar so will definitely try these recipes. Grin Halo

Mr Organic chocolate hazelnut spread - I like the dark one, because it's dairy free, but if that isn't a concern for you, then either will be fine. Me and DD go through it very fast, so I only buy it as a treat!

Jimjams uses a sugar substitute, which I try to avoid, but tis good all the same.

My body doesn’t like pulses. Or gluten. I like the taste of pulses though I just can’t digest them. I don’t think not eating protein would work for me Jenesuispas. We are all different.

Youshallnotpass · 02/02/2018 14:58

Protein isn't essential

Hmm

You know the muscles we use to physically move us around, yeah... Protein is possibly the most important thing for living things.

Cheekyandfreaky · 02/02/2018 14:58

Right, am going to try to make @honeybeetheoneandonly recipe and will report back. We have banned Nutella in our house because we can’t be trusted with it!

Loyaultemelie · 02/02/2018 15:07

The choc pot one is lovely, my dn has allergies but can have it so as a good auntie I had to quality control Grin

MammaSchwifty · 02/02/2018 15:13

You could try putting this into a Nutella jar and see if it passes...

Cheekyandfreaky, let me know if it hits the spot. Smile

Angrybird123 · 02/02/2018 18:41

I bought the Tesco no added sugar one. Dd had it once and said it was horrible. I checked the ingredients and the artificial sweetner in it has a laxative warming. It went in the bin!

geekone · 02/02/2018 19:01

Mmmm meridian I have the chocolate peanut and the chocolate hazelnut butter yum

Lovelydovey · 02/02/2018 19:02

Meridian cocoa and hazelnut butter

hazeyjane · 02/02/2018 19:10

I've tried loads of alternatives, and ds wouldn't have any of them. Are any of the homemade versions actually like it...and properly smooth?

SnippitySnappity · 02/02/2018 19:12

You need a Vitamix to get the right consistency - there are lots of healthier chocolate spreads (pipnut has a choc peanut one, mine were eating deliciously ella’s hazelnut choc for a while.

As they get older, they can tell the difference though.

SnippitySnappity · 02/02/2018 19:13

Mind you, if you spooned it into a Nutella jar, you might have more luck!

Cheekyandfreaky · 02/02/2018 20:06

@honeybeetheoneandonly Check it out my new best friend- this is gorgeous. I actually think it tastes better than Nutella as it really tastes nutty. Our household loves you.

Its not a cheap option but the only one we could find without palm oil was from hotel chocolat.

CowPatRoberts · 02/02/2018 21:44

I know LiveLean sell a chocolate protein peanut butter does that count? Blush no additives etc as far as I know.

Lentilbaby · 02/02/2018 21:48

@Cheekyandfreaky That pic has made my mouth water!
