To think that there must be a healthier version of Nutella?

Nutella on toast (wholemeal bread) is all my son will eat for breakfast! (don't waste your time suggesting alternatives!).
Is there a similar tasting chocolate spread which is healthier that I could try?
Preferably one that can be bought in the major supermarkets.
Thanks

@Lentilbaby it’s as good as it looks!

@cheekyandfreaky, Haha, I didn't come up with the recipe, I just copied it but I'm super happy your family loves it.
I think I may have to make a batch soon now.

Any chocolate spread recipes that don’t involve nuts?
We have two different nut allergies to contend with. My son used to love Nutella- till he developed a hazelnut allergy.

Thisseatistaken I've only ever made the recipe I posted above without the nuts.

There was a product test for jim jams a while back. If you search for the feedback thread you can see how people compared it to Nutella! Smile

We use Jim Jams. DS likes it. You can tell it isn't Nutella because it isn't as sweet, but ds was happy to compromise. He layers it with peanut butter on toast.

Health food shop told me Nutella is the best.

niccyb · 03/02/2018 22:05

Deliciously Ella does a homemade one but if you haven’t got time for that Tesco sell a meridian version which is healthy but dearer at £3.50 for a small jar. I do prefer it though

Thisseatistaken · 03/02/2018 22:36

Thanks. I will try that recipe out.
Do miss Nutella

Shockers · 03/02/2018 22:46

There’s a chocolate hummus I’ve seen advertised somewhere. I’m assuming it’s just chocolate and chickpeas, without the garlic etc.

Some nice homemade recipes :D I don't love Nutella on bread, but it's nice in buttercream :D

It's actually World Nutella Day on Monday :D if anyone wants to celebrate haha

Also someone mentioned palm oil, they only use certified sustainable palm oil in Nutella so that's not too much of a worry.

On the subject of needing protein to build muscles, muscle tissue is not made up of mostly of protein. Muscle tissue is 70% water.

The other 30% is made of glucose and amino acids. Your muscles need just as much glucose (which is what carbohydrates are converted into), if not more than protein to gain muscle size.

Amino acids are what make up protein.

However, the body uses whatever amount of amino acids it needs at that particular moment. The rest it stores for later use.

You don't need to be eating a "steady stream" of protein to gain muscle weight - your body keeps a little "pool" of stored amino acids.

Protein is by far the most difficult macronutrient to break down and digest.

All palm oil is a worry.

FlopIsMyParentingGuru · 06/02/2018 16:38

There are possible health reasons to avoid palm oil as well as environmental.
