Anyone following this?

Do we know just HOW religious the parents actually are? Were they Catholic worshippers prior to the events of the last 18 months, or have they in their grief just latched onto it for hope, or have they just been targeted by the Christian Learning lot and got swept up in it?

It's very hard to equate a lot of what they have said and done with Catholic doctrine and teaching. There was nothing the Pope could have done, yet Tom decided to leave his son and partner to go and meet him. He has behaved badly (putting it mildly) at the hospital and towards staff, made appalling comments about them, despite the fact that the Catholic Church in Liverpool has come out with nothing but praise for the hospital and staff only very recently.

mydogisthebest · 23/04/2018 11:56

I cannot begin to imagine the hell that Alfie's parents are going through but how on earth is causing distress to other patients, other families, nurses, doctors etc going to help? How is making threats and abusing others going to help?

His anguish/grief does not give him the right to act the way he is acting. His concern should be Alfie and only Alfie. Just like Charlie Gard's dad he is making it about him and not his son.

I am sure he loves his son so he needs to show that love and let Alfie go in peace and with dignity not with a braying mob outside the hospital and him ranting and raving inside.

MorningCuppa · 23/04/2018 11:59

Saucy - my posts are not hysterical, although if they were, they would fit in well with this thread.
With people jumping on the most ridiculous statements some of the "army" are stating on fb and taking it as gospel, come on.

I was just stating that a chair/sofa isn't going to hurt being put in a room when there son is dying, heart broken, sleep deprived and no doubt exhausted, is a chair/sofa really going to harm anyone?

Your right I didn't look at a picture of a grieving young man and think he's done that for a photo opportunity, because that's just distasteful and I have sympathy for any parent/parents going through such an awful heart breaking time, I'm sure he has much much more on his mind than worrying about a "photo opportunity"

BoreOfWhabylon · 23/04/2018 12:00

The posted extract from eol plan appears to have been taken from a Court document that has not been placed in the public domain.

IronicWitttUsername · 23/04/2018 12:04

I see there an appeal now from Italian lawyers. Is that worth anything?

ShatnersWig · 23/04/2018 12:06

Morning Have you been following this case for the last few weeks and months? I don't recall seeing you on previous threads but apologises if you were. I suspect you haven't, because if you have, you would already have a couple of ideas why the sofa might have been removed. Because a chair or sofa could harm someone. Or it could stop nurses from doing their job. There has been physical as well as verbal intimidation and abuse and threats, which is why the Police have been on the ward to ensure Tom didn't try to abscond with his son.

It's heartbreaking, but there is so much more to this than a sofa.

Birdsgottafly · 23/04/2018 12:06

"Do we know just HOW religious the parents actually are? "

It would be nice if they wasn't ripped apart and over analysed. Their ''crime' is, after all, trying to save their baby. They are desperate Parents holding on to hope.

They were, like a lot of Liverpool, Baptised Catholic. The laws and policies of our land are guided by religion. we allow people to do questionable things, in the name of Religion. We profess to be a Christian country. When all other avenues are failing, why shouldn't they look to Religion? People in Crisis do become more spritual. I sat in the Chapel as my DH was dying. i have never believed in God. It bought comfort, for some reason. Should I have not?

WowLookAtYou · 23/04/2018 12:10

AH, like GOSH before them, are all about sick children and their desperately worried parents. They're set up for support and help and comfort. If TE and KJ have been denied things that ordinarily would be provided, like staying at Ronald MacDonald House or the sofa in the room for instance, I think there must be a very good reason for it, but it's not for us to know. The family is in deep distress, but that's not new to AH and things have clearly got out of hand at times.

dontbesillyhenry · 23/04/2018 12:12

Religion shouldn't come into it. Everyone loves and wants the best for their babies . Nobody should make staff feel unsafe threatened or accuse them of being murderers

IronicWitttUsername · 23/04/2018 12:14

He has just said on live Kate is 22 weeks preg

ShatnersWig · 23/04/2018 12:15

Birds I meant it as a genuine question. The last thread discussed some of the issues surrounding why we think the whole "Army" situation occurred with CG and has happened again with AE. I think the religious angle is also worth discussing.

Because it could well be that the likes of Christian Learning are really using this for their own ends and exploiting two young vulnerable people and that would be despicable. If they were not actually practising Catholics themselves, it makes it more so, in my opinion.

The Pope chose his words very carefully. The Liverpool Bishops likewise (in fact, they've come out very, very strongly for Alder Hay). I wonder how Christian Learning have handled that with Tom?

Americantan · 23/04/2018 12:17

Just read a tweet that say s the ECHR have refused to intervene

IronicWitttUsername · 23/04/2018 12:18

There's a video on the group of them handing over documents apparently these documents mean that they will get done for murder if the planned EOL plan goes ahead.

I did hear someone on live telling him to send all the supporters home cos he was going to get into trouble

Doyoumind · 23/04/2018 12:19

The ECHR has refused to intervene - breaking news. That must surely be the end of this now.

MidnightAura · 23/04/2018 12:19

Why is he live on Facebook? Genuine question.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 23/04/2018 12:19

He has just said on live Kate is 22 weeks preg

In that case, let's just hope that Alfie's situation isn't down to something genetic. Bad enough that the parents have to go through this once, but a repeat would be almost unendurable for everyone concerned

IronicWitttUsername · 23/04/2018 12:20

even the president of the Italian hosp is saying he wants to just give him moral support and not to fight. I heard him say that.

Ijustwantabloodyusername · 23/04/2018 12:21

Somebody at the Bambino Gesu has just said they are only there to support Tom & Kate.

IronicWitttUsername · 23/04/2018 12:21

He is live streaming it all says they are about to go in and see Alfie

IronicWitttUsername · 23/04/2018 12:22

I am not watching anymore. Poor boy needs dignity now and his family calmly around him :(

Ijustwantabloodyusername · 23/04/2018 12:24

I can't watch this live video anymore and I have an awful feeling he will live stream 'the end'

Puzzledandpissedoff · 23/04/2018 12:24

The ECHR has refused to intervene

No doubt the Supreme Court expected this and took it into account when deciding the timing in their "directive"

May little Alfie pass in peace and his soul be free at last

dontbesillyhenry · 23/04/2018 12:25

How sad. I wish things could be different I really do

MorningCuppa · 23/04/2018 12:25

Yes Shatners I have, I'm sure many have who don't comment.
