Morning No, no problems with differing opinions. But you can do so reasonably. It's a bit rich of you having a go at people for "jumping" on you when you were jumping on another poster earlier ending with this lovely comment: No thought not, so stop your stupid comments

It works both ways, you see.

GrumbleBumble · 23/04/2018 11:34

Every child in every PICU in the land is seriously ill, many are terminal, others are gravely ill and may recover but my not, up and down the land EoL care is being given. Any family in any PICU on any night could be facing the last night with their child and the policy in all units is not to provide for parents sleeping in the room. It is not a case that every other family in AH PICU has a sofa and the one in Alfie's room has been removed - there should never have been a sofa there.

MorningCuppa · 23/04/2018 11:36

Shatner who gives you the right to tell me to ease off? Who are you the thread police.
Well I only stated what I read, but hey ho.

MorningCuppa · 23/04/2018 11:38

Grumble I'm not saying that they are not, I'm just saying that because they have been given a time of which there son was going to be removed from his ventilator why is it so hard to give them a decent chair/sofa chair?

Cassimin · 23/04/2018 11:39

Sorry, I agree with morning.
If there has been a sofa I'm pretty sure they could put it back.
If there had never been room for a sofa then that's a different matter.
Hope AH make it as comfortable as possible for them.
In my job I have to deal with rude, aggressive parents. I understand that this comes out of desperation and rise above it.
As I said before I have had good and bad experiences with AH and have friends and family who work there. I also know that there is good and bad everywhere this also applies to drs and nurses.

Allington · 23/04/2018 11:39

mightymucks that quote shows justanothersod is right the way I read it - that it would be commenced IF NEEDED, not that they would be commenced and INCREASED if needed...

NerrSnerr · 23/04/2018 11:40

We don't know what's being said in the room. We do know that Alfie'a family are very angry though. The sofa might be back in there now.

True Nerr it might be, let's hope it is, all
I'm saying is that no family, weather it be this family or another, should be having to lie on the floor to get some rest next to their dying son.

GrumbleBumble · 23/04/2018 11:43

why is it so hard to give them a decent chair/sofa chair?
Total conjecture on my part but as I said earlier I suspect there is concern that it could be used to barricade the room or deliberately block staff from accessing Alfie.

HoppingPavlova · 23/04/2018 11:44

Mightmucks you are reading that incorrectly. It states a) cannula inserted, b) medicines drawn up in syringes immediately at hand ready to use, c) medicines used if clinically necessary. It does not say the medicines will be given beforehand or even during, its at hand to be used as necessary with everything in place so as not to incur any delay.

MorningCuppa · 23/04/2018 11:44

Case - it's like any situation weather is be a doctor, dentist etc sometimes people make mistakes or are not right, we are all only humans, I'm sure some people have been to the hospital/doctors with children, mothers, fathers, siblings etc and been told one thing and then kept pushing because they believed it was something else going on, only to find out there instincts were right.

Re: the couch. Many of the pods have a couch in. It's a godsend when you're sleep deprived.

It was taken out on the day of the the ruling last week, coinciding with the police arriving, and the 'support' outside reaching fever pitch.

I assume (as I have done professionally in the past) that a risk assessment has been done and that piece of furniture could be use to harm or obstruct staff, this is why it won't be back.
AH staff are not collectively villainous enough to want to torture grieving parents Hmm

DiamondsBestFriend · 23/04/2018 11:47

Is this thread really any more than just a place to bicker and post he said/she said comments from this and that page now?

Ultimately while the court cases/appeals etc were ongoing there was place for a discussion but now all avenues from the courts have been removed and the outcome is inevitable.

So the army posters are posting the most ridiculous rubbish on their page. No-one actually takes that seriously do they? The more people talk about it and distribute it the more they are giving credence to what is essentially just the ramblings of keyboard warriers who have neither knowledge or ability.

And ultimately the parents are about to have to face something which no parent ever wants to, and there is no discussion which can make that not happen or make it better.

DeadButDelicious · 23/04/2018 11:48

I suspect it is as grumble suggests and the sofa is not being given back due to worries about potential misuse.

africanprincessinscotland · 23/04/2018 11:49

Morning yes of course medics aren't infallible, but in this case the hospital have sought far more than just second opinions about whether AE could be treated / cured. Even the hospital in Rome has said they can't cure him. Everyone needs hope, but there must come a point where you realise that the worst is unfortunately inevitable.

Mightymucks · 23/04/2018 11:50

It’s ambiguously written which is a failure on the part of the hospital. When they’re dealing with something this serious it shouldn’t be open to interpretation.

mydogisthebest · 23/04/2018 11:50

Morning, you don't know the reason the sofa was taken away and neither do I. The fact is there is no sofa there. If it were my child or even my husband and I thought it was to be their last night I would sleep on the floor and not feel the need to get photos of me doing so.

Potplant2 · 23/04/2018 11:51

I am not Allington.

SaucyJane · 23/04/2018 11:53

Morning - your posts about the sofa are verging on the hysterical.

You are judging it entirely on one pic, taken and posted to be used as emotional fireworks by a party who is hardly impartial (understandably Sad).

You might be right. Or at the other end of the spectrum, he might have posed the picture. Or the staff might have removed it due to medical need or threats. Or he might only have requested it at midnight for use that night - there could be many explanations. Speculating on them and calling the hospital "disgusting" is not helpful.

AH saved the life of my friend's little boy. The medical teams there do work that most of us can't even begin to imagine. They should be trusted and respected, not bombarded with crap from people whose only involvement is from behind a keyboard (to be clear, this last bit refers to the "army", NOT to morning!).

Americantan · 23/04/2018 11:54

Mighty I’m sure there’s no ambiguity for the medics. That document was not for our consumption

fenneltea · 23/04/2018 11:55

Exactly African I can't help thinking that as tragic as it is, little Alfie has had access to the best medical care money can buy and still sadly can't be saved; and yet there are thousands of children in the world today that will by dying from totally preventable causes such as a lack of clean water, adequate food and treatable diseases. What a shame there isn't such an outcry over their suffering when it actually could make a difference. :(
