Anyone following this?

The army are losing the plot. They actually seem to think Alfie is being given a lethal injection. There have been some extremely bizarre claims about one of the judges too.

MayhemandMadness01 · 22/04/2018 18:32

I hope those that do go to Alder Hey are peaceful and there is no reoccurance of wheelies on scramber bikes.

miffytherabbit1974 · 22/04/2018 18:33

There's a marked loss of support even on the Just Giving page. People are asking why the amount has been upped a number of times and are wanting to know what the £104,000 raised is being used for.

Is there still an appeal pending to ECHR?

The last sentence sounds like he is prepared to see violence breaking out.

The last sentence sounds like he is prepared to see violence breaking out

But carefully phrased to suggest "I can't stop them, guv" wouldn't you say?

Bodicea · 22/04/2018 18:46

The father has threatened staff and said he would kill whoever switched of the machines.

The staff have to go to work in plain clothes for fear of being attacked.

I have very little sympathy.

Burntout93 · 22/04/2018 18:49

He could shut down the groups and announce no further public statements will be made - that would probably stop them - because they are a random group of people and are not linked to any polltical organistion or relgious group (other than the lawyers).

GnotherGnu · 22/04/2018 18:49

There are so many people passionately proclaiming on social media that they would do precisely the same, they would never give up on their children even if every doctor is telling them their child has no chance of recovery because you never know, a cure might come along. But I suspect the reality is that if they really were in that situation and could see their child deteriorating and possibly suffering, most would take the tough but ultimately more loving decision that most people take, and would let their child go. But they're so caught up in the hysteria that they utterly refuse to admit it.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 22/04/2018 18:50

Bodicea is that something he's actually said himself ... which can be traced back to him, I mean - or something which others such as the fools on FB have alleged he's said?

Dogjustguffed · 22/04/2018 18:51

Thank you to previous posters who have shared their stories of hard decisions and horrendous grief. You have given me an insight into a world I hope to always avoid. It has also helped me understand that this family’s behaviour is shaped by a deep set of emotions which perhaps cannot be reasoned with, because it’s not a normal or rational place that they are in.

@pink from what I have seen Alder Hey have been excellent with their communication and willingness until quite recently to allow a range of experts to see Alfie in line with his parents’ wishes. They have been consistent in their prognosis and communication about that. The parents and close family appear to have ignored this. In fact, we are now seeing a campaign of wilful misinformation from the father. I am not sure that the hospital could have done much more or differently, and let’s not forget that there are other patients and families who need time and support too. I imagine that st some point you get to a stage where all you can do is keep repeating the message, and it’s up to the family to hear or ignore that.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 22/04/2018 18:51

Puzzledandpissedoffthat's it basically inviting them to but not saying directly go and do it

Bodicea · 22/04/2018 18:59

I have it on pretty good authority.

TidyDancer · 22/04/2018 18:59

You've got someone on the army page asking if the pope can hop on a plane to come fetch Alfie. And then the next comment is calling the staff murderous twats. They are a special bunch aren't they? 🙄

ClashCityRocker · 22/04/2018 19:00

I hope like hell the vigil/demonstration will be peaceful. There's been some insane posts on that page, including threats to take staff hostage. Hopefully just keyboard warriors but it must be awful for staff, patients and other family at the hospital.

IronicWitttUsername · 22/04/2018 19:01

I'm worried they will strongly hint at a date like on a certain day say we need you here NOW.

Those saying the army will leave soon. They will just link onto another cause there a whole fb group about it and they are lining up new people to support. It's called supporting seriously ill children in picu or something like that. Their mission statement is that the nhs don't care so they have to deal with it.

Some of the group believe that Alfie will breathe fine when the vent is removed as long as he has no sedation. Makes me wonder why they think he was ventilated in the first place? Some think they want his organs for cash for a rich person needing them...I doubt a baby with an unknown deadly disorder would be a suitable candidate for donation.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 22/04/2018 19:02

Think be hard to have a non peaceful candlelight one.. Tomorrows one however. Can't see that being

BigPinkBall · 22/04/2018 19:02

@Dogjustguffed I don’t doubt you’re right, but from personal experience I know some individual doctors can be not great at communication and forget that while it’s all in a days work for them it’s often a new and distressing experience for the patient and their family.

However, it doesn’t matter if the medical team are all absolute angels who’ve never put a foot wrong, there’s always going to be one person who finds fault or needs someone else to blame.

In my opinion it’s just a shame that this is being dragged out and leaving Alfie with invasive, potentially painful medical interventions while it’s going through the courts, not to mention the money that’s had to be used by the NHS to fight the case that could have been spent elsewhere.

IronicWitttUsername · 22/04/2018 19:02

Also Kate's allowed to remove Alfie but Tom isn't so can Kate just take him?

That was said in the group

Sarahconnor1 · 22/04/2018 19:08

IronicWitttUsername the date has been posted on Twitter already by members of the army. I'm guessing that must have come from the family. The date will be pushed back though because of the echr appeal. But I worry there are going to be more protests

confusedlittleone · 22/04/2018 19:10

@IronicWitttUsername she can't take him that was one of the miss-information on the page

Singlikemiranda · 22/04/2018 19:10

Apparently once he is removed from the ventilator, the parents will be free to take him, and even if he dies on the way home, then at least he died in their arms - Alfie's army

Puzzledandpissedoff · 22/04/2018 19:11

I'm worried they will strongly hint at a date like on a certain day say we need you here NOW

The date's been mentioned again on FB (I can't understand why it's not been deleted Hmm) but fortunately it seems to have gone largely unnoticed among all the attention seeking posts
