Anyone following this?

OP posts:

Will the date be pushed back? I thought the supreme Court ruling stated that it wouldn't be.

A date and time has certainly been posted on the page and has been since removed - and quite rightly so.

I really hope those making threats towards staff and inciting riots on that page are charged for it - some posts are going far beyond calling for peaceful protest.

Sarahconnor1 · 22/04/2018 19:15

I'm assuming there will have to be a stay on any withdrawal of treatment until the latest echr appeal is heard. It was lodged Friday I think

confusedlittleone · 22/04/2018 19:15

@Singlikemiranda according to the official documents they posted the dr needs to a final examination to confirm he's passed so I don't think they would be

spicerack · 22/04/2018 19:21

AA seem to think copying and pasting something in the facebook comments and adding their name to it is a petition and that the Queen will see that?

JediStoleMyBike · 22/04/2018 19:22

I don't think A's mum's name is on the list. It's like she's been forgotten.

Dogjustguffed · 22/04/2018 19:23

@BigPinkBall yeah, thinking about it like that I think you have a good point there. Hopefully the hospital will see if there are lessons to be learned for future cases.

Sarah I've heard, and the judgement implies that this isn't the case, however I cannot categorically say what the position is.

I can imagine there will be outrage if they withdraw support before leave to appeal is rejected, but there will be outrage in any event.

The increasingly desperate statements from Tom and the mobilising of the 'army' does seem to me to suggest that they know that the ECHR will be a no go.

BoreOfWhabylon · 22/04/2018 19:28

TE is clearly a fully paid up member of the Free Man Of The Land bollocks.

@spicerack

The post was originally written by Tom Evans. Although at this stage the "army" and T.E seem to be operating pretty much in tandem.

But with regard to A.A., they don't just want the Queen to rock up, they are imploring the Pope to fly in (seriously) and take Alfie from the hospital. Next they'll be petitioning Simon Cowell or the Dalai Lama. In the last hour, A.A. have instructed their followers to gather outside the hospital for a vigil, in order to "persuade" the hospital to release Alfie.

Honestly, there's not a lot of deep, philosophical or even logical thought occurring within the ranks of A.A. I realise it might be unfashionable to say this, but they really are behaving like nitwitted sheep.

Sarahconnor1 · 22/04/2018 19:31

Yeah I can imagine a further echr appeal would be successful but I assumed it might prolong things for a couple of days. Yes there will be outrage either way I just hope it's contained for the sake of other patients and staff. It's fairly local to me.

Singlikemiranda · 22/04/2018 19:34

@confusedlittleone I know that, but the army seem to think she can just take him Hmm

It's still plastered all over Twitter, though Angry I don't understand how these sites are managed, but isn't anyone responsible for removing posts containing details which the courts have banned from publication?

"they don't just want the Queen to rock up, they are imploring the Pope to fly in"

The posters in question seem to be reverting to a pre-modern age where ordinary citizens who felt that the system had treated them badly could make a plea to a powerful ruler, who might then grant their request. It's sociologically interesting (especially the references to the Pope, who has had no authority in England since 1534) but in practice rather heartbreaking, given that there is no one on earth who could restore Alfie to any kind of health.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 22/04/2018 19:47

As if someone rung the police.. And they're all surprised as to why nothing is being done and they must be corrupt

NerrSnerr · 22/04/2018 19:53

There are also people still saying that they've gone down the wrong legal route and Kate needs to go to small claims court.

How do these people get through life with such little common sense?

miffytherabbit1974 · 22/04/2018 19:54

@FlyingBird

There's an awful lot of absurdity wrapped around this really heartbreaking situation isn't there? The absurdity can help in offsetting the grimness found in these awful circumstances. I think people do very absurd and peculiar things when they simply react, rather than think first, and some of those in Alfie's "Army" have been doing quite a lot of "reacting".

Your comment invoked a truly awful vision of Peter Andre & Katie Price leading the members of A.A in a protest song at the gates of the hospital. This would be even worse than the bouncy castle and the circus tents.

Yup, ringing the police to report alder hey for murder is apparently the next strategy.

The Pope, the Queen, Donald Trump and even Danny Dyer have been requested to step in.

I'm flabbergasted that after two minutes of Googling, these people know exactly how end of life care should be carried out and what drugs should or shouldn't be used and are actively encouraging Kate and Tom to insist they are not used. There's a special kind of arrogance and stupidity to advise on treatment in the last few moments of a child's life based on what you've just Googled.

They really do need to put something in place to prevent this from happening in the future - taking down pages where posters are advocating rioting/kidnapping/assault and other illegal acts, perhaps.

DrEustaciaBenson · 22/04/2018 19:56

especially the references to the Pope, who has had no authority in England since 1534

And even before that, kings of England didn't take too kindly to people going over their heads to appeal to Rome.

miffytherabbit1974 · 22/04/2018 19:57

@IreneTheQuaint

I thought your insight was very interesting and thought-provoking. I hadn't considered this need to seek out a powerful individual, whoever it might be, and however devoid of real "hard" power that individual might possess.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 22/04/2018 19:58

The police don't want to know so they are murderers to.. Some forces have been tagged in posts as well.

Surely some of these must be a wind up!
