Lego themed wedding?

ChangingsOfTheGuard · 31/01/2018 12:14

What would your thoughts be if you were invited to a lego themed wedding. Build your own figures favours, build your own centerpiece, little sets to built whilst waiting on speeches?

Would you find it too childish and silly, or do you think you'd enjoy it as something diffferent?

I'd like it! I love Lego and it's different.
Can I come? Grin

StickThatInYourPipe · 31/01/2018 12:16

I’d think you spent a complete fortune on something only a few people would appreciate

I mean I would like it, but I think it was a total waste of money

TieGrr · 31/01/2018 12:16

Sounds amazing. DP would love it as well.

mumpoints · 31/01/2018 12:16

DH and DS would love it!

Keep the pieces off the dancefloor though!

Aridane · 31/01/2018 12:17

I would think it a bit odd You know your guests!

HollyBayTree · 31/01/2018 12:17

I would think it a bit child like/geeky/odd and probably thoroughly enjoy it!

Allthebestnamesareused · 31/01/2018 12:18

About 3 tables would do it. Some would take it home for their kids and some will leave it lying there afterwards. As long as you okay with that.

A lot of expense I would say for something that would not be as wow for your guests as it is for you, I'm afraid to say.

ChangingsOfTheGuard · 31/01/2018 12:19

I have a pretty sizeable collection of minifgure parts and accessories that could be used for the favours, and had thought about buying a couple of job lots of bricks for sale for centerpieces, or picking up a little sale set everytime we do a shop to gather up a few sets for each table, so think cost wise it wouldn't be horrendous, but if most would find it a bit naff I don't want people to sit miserably in judgement that there are no sugared almonds Grin

Honestly? I really don't like lego for adults and would be eyerolly about it, esp thinking about the waste of money. But would tell the bride/groom how lovely it had all been.

Allthebestnamesareused · 31/01/2018 12:20

If you are after something to do as a table we went to one where there was almost a Mr & Mrs type quiz about the bridge and groom and it was how well you knew them. It was a real icebreaker especially as we didn't know other people on our table.

They then swapped sheets with adjacent tables to mark them.

Trinity66 · 31/01/2018 12:20

Brilliant and unique!

Steeley113 · 31/01/2018 12:20

I would love it. You know your guests though. If you have lots of geeky friends/family I’d totally go for it. My friend had a Harry Potter themed wedding and it was perfect for them and their guests!

ChangingsOfTheGuard · 31/01/2018 12:21

I think our friends would possibly enjoy it...but there'll also be a mass of sort of older aunts and uncles and I don't know his side of the family all that well...so possibly it's a bad idea

I think it could turn a joyous occasion to be looked forward to into something a lot of people would dread, to be honest. I think you could easily do the favours to represent you both and it would be really sweet without making it a theme though.

ChangingsOfTheGuard · 31/01/2018 12:22

so maybe just build your own figure but keep the rest of it more traditional?

These would be awesome, you can get Lego wedding cake toppers too!

Lego themed wedding?
SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 31/01/2018 12:24

Will there be loads of kids there/involved in the wedding? If so, then yes, could be brilliant.

If not, I'd probably think it was a bit of an odd choice - there are loads of other 'fun' type things that you could choose though, that might appeal more to everyone.

tigerdog · 31/01/2018 12:24

Our friends had a LEGO themed wedding recently. Each guest was given a figure as the place setting, styled to look like us where possible! That was my favourite bit. The centre pieces were also LEGO scenes, and even the bride’s bouquet and the cake were part of the theme and very well done. It wouldn’t have been cheap though!

It’s not something I would do, but I’d never sneer at someone else’s choices and I’d definitely get into the spirit of it as a guest. Doing something that makes you happy is important and if your friends are nice people, they’ll enjoy it too.

EggsonHeads · 31/01/2018 12:25

Lego is boring AF but my children (stereotypical male buildy smashy type children love it). I would rather go through the torture of playing Lego with them than restless children at a wedding though. I would actually be quite grateful, provided that my youngest didn't choke on it. I have a strong preference for playdoh though if you would consider it,

ChangingsOfTheGuard · 31/01/2018 12:25

We ordered a little cake topper this week, but I guess the danger is the lego runs away with us Grin so maybe less is more for most?

Sounds fantastic. But you know your audience we don't. I think you would have a problem with the little sets. It might be better to have bowls of bits and minifigures but not so much a set to make. Nobody wants to get bogged down with instructions at a table. More free flow. How about a themed Lego wedding rather than a general Lego wedding. Star Wars Lego wedding. That would be brilliant! Clearly, I would be one of your target audience.

EggsonHeads · 31/01/2018 12:26

*i have an inexplicable loathing of Lego in case you can't tell. I'm sure most parents would be over the moon.

MargaretCavendish · 31/01/2018 12:27

But this is the thing about weddings - you can't please everyone. I think the Lego idea is really fun and quirky; I think quizzes about the couple are naff and cringey. You like the quiz and don't like the Lego. You're always going to get a mix of reactions, whatever you do - so as long as it isn't inconvenient or uncomfortable for your guests (and this idea clearly isn't) then do what you like - it's your wedding!

Myddognearlyatethedeliveryman · 31/01/2018 12:27

Bet you are excited op - or are you bricking it?? Grin

ChangingsOfTheGuard · 31/01/2018 12:27

there will be maybe 5 or 10 kids there, so not massively kid heavy. I know a lot of people do a little colouring in thing for kids which we could do, or get some duplo. I'm a lego fan, so I find it entertaining but I am aware I may be in the minority Blush

tigerdog did you know in advance of the theme or just when you arrived you had some lego to play with?
