Lego themed wedding?

What would your thoughts be if you were invited to a lego themed wedding. Build your own figures favours, build your own centerpiece, little sets to built whilst waiting on speeches?

Would you find it too childish and silly, or do you think you'd enjoy it as something diffferent?

I'm in my 50's, I would love it and if my geeky eldest and her boyfriend ever tie the knot I would be an interfering MIL and suggest this idea Grin though they would probably come up with the idea themselves.

meandmytinfoilhat · 01/02/2018 10:50

I would love it. I wish I had thought of it for my wedding.

KendalMintCakey · 01/02/2018 11:03

if you want - but - we had lego us's on our wedding cake. You can get the Lego Bride and Groom cheaply enough on eBay. You could even have Lego bricks on the cake. I wouldn't go too far tho...

morni · 01/02/2018 11:20

Quite bemused at the people saying they love going to unique weddings which reflect the personality of the couple, when half the posts on this thread are people that have either had a lego wedding themselves or have been to one.

It's clearly far from unique and to me seems too try-hard. Why does a wedding need a theme? Why can't it just be a wedding? That said, although I would eye-roll at this it is your day, so do it if it makes you happy!

Kezzamo · 01/02/2018 11:20

Not rtft so bear with me if this is a bit cancel the cheque but certainly where I live they do Lego parties which obviously include loads of Lego so I'm sure they would hire if you didn't want to but it all?

Valerrie · 01/02/2018 12:07

Why can't it just be a wedding?

Weddings are boring. They are usually the same mishmash of a boring ceremony, a bride in an ivory dress, men in suits, girls dressed in something they'll never wear again, pointless flowers, gifts for guests that go in the bin, droll speeches, money spent on the same crap you see at every other wedding and what is there to show for it? A few photos and a piece of paper.

Traditional weddings are a copycat excuse to spend a shed load of money on not much at all. Why would anyone want to be the same as every other bastard that gets married? I know I didn't.

At least if I have to sit through a wedding, one that's themed and a bit of fun is far more entertaining than the same old crap.

ChangingsOfTheGuard · 01/02/2018 12:29

Our wedding is in a sort of barn thing so it will be pretty low key, very relaxed sort of atmosphere, so i think a few bricks might be entertaining, I also get the bonus of taking home the leftovers if people decide not to do it. I wouldn't be bothered if no one built their little figures as such, but would probably feel a bit self conscious that they thought i was ridiculous.

I know most of my side of the family would not be surprised if lego appeared at the wedding, i'm more concerned about my new family just sitting there thinking wtf lol

Weddings are boring.
What a charming guest you are. Celebrating a marriage, organising a nice meal for friends and families, in a nicely decorated setting, then having a party together for everybody to have a good time.
You sound truly horrible if you are looking down at your close relative for trying to include you in what is a lovely day.

Yes, I do love weddings, for most people they are a happy day.

NewYearNewUsername · 01/02/2018 12:36

Personally I'd be in heaven.

brizzledrizzle · 01/02/2018 12:40

it's your wedding and you should have what you want, people who don't like it don't have to accept your invitation.

LagunaBubbles · 01/02/2018 12:43

And you could walk out of the church to ‘Everything is Awesome’. Ooooh or first dance!!! Can I come?

That is genius!

I bought my 15 year old DS the most expensive lego set Ive ever bought at Christmas, its The Simpsons House.

ChangingsOfTheGuard · 01/02/2018 12:45

I got a police station for christmas :D

I don't really like the idea of a 'theme' wedding - but it is fun to incorporate gits of 'you' into the day so like lego center piece and cake toppers or something but not all out everything.

ChangingsOfTheGuard · 01/02/2018 12:56

fluffy I agree, I think theme was probably overstating the intention. I don't want it to feel like a 5 year olds party. Will possibly consult my bridesmaid, shes known me for a long time, but is much less of a dork and will probably give an honest opinion.

The whole wedding planning thing is a minefield!

I don't have any close relatives, so that's fine by me!

I don't find traditional weddings a "lovely day". That's my prerogative.

morni · 01/02/2018 13:52

But the inclusion of Lego suddenly transforms it into a lovely day? How odd

paddlingwhenIshouldbeworking · 01/02/2018 13:53

Everything is awesome!! Brilliant.

Valerrie · 01/02/2018 14:09

Not at all, if everything else is the same, generic crap.

The addition of Lego would give me something to do during the tedium of the speeches though.

Cath2907 · 01/02/2018 14:12

I like the idea of Lego - the Mr & Mrs quiz leaves me cold!

morni · 01/02/2018 15:15

If it's all so tedious, why bother accepting the invites at all. You clearly don't want to help couples celebrate at their boring weddings

CheerfulMuddler · 01/02/2018 15:41

I think it sounds great fun, and like PP I like it when a wedding reflects the interests/personality of the bride and groom. I agree that I'd keep it low-key though - make it clear that people can play with Lego if they want and not bother if they don't.

CheerfulMuddler · 01/02/2018 15:45

I think if there are going to be kids there, a box of Lego/Duplo bits on a side table for them to play with is a nice touch though.

SistersOfPercy · 01/02/2018 16:07

Love it!
I make lego jewellery so if you need anything personalised give me a shout. I have bricks of all sizes as well as people.

Personally I think it sounds bloody amazing! I'm holding off buying any new sets at the moment until we move house, then it's game on!
