MrsSchadenfreude · 31/01/2018 10:41

Trinity66 · 31/01/2018 10:42

*But troll, toll, droll are all pronounced like doll - not trole, tole and drole?

Are all my -oll pronunciations wrong?!*

I would pronounce all those to rhyme with Pole as well. I have heard other people pronounce Troll the way you do but not Toll or Droll Grin

Trinity66 · 31/01/2018 10:43

also most of the people I've heard pronounce Troll to ryhme with Doll were English

SleepingStandingUp · 31/01/2018 10:44

What???????
Troll as in who's that trip trapping over MY bridge rhymes with doll rhymes with sol rhymes with Col or or lol

VileyRose · 31/01/2018 10:44

I'm from South and yes
Pole and dole
Poll and doll

Shadow666 · 31/01/2018 10:45

Troll can be pronounced either way. Doll does not rhyme with dole.

amusedbush · 31/01/2018 10:46

SleepingStandingUp

Listen to the song I posted above, it's definitely "trole" Grin

QuimReaper · 31/01/2018 10:47

Oooh yes, drole would be very wrong indeed.

trqintracks · 31/01/2018 10:47

I definitely say 'poll' like 'polly' without the 'y'

ShowMeTheElf · 31/01/2018 10:49

But troll, toll, droll are all pronounced like doll - not trole, tole and drole?
Are all my -oll pronunciations wrong?!

erm, yes.

How do you pronounce alibi?

SleepingStandingUp · 31/01/2018 10:50

amusedbush I hope the troll bites you.

I think anyone who self identifies as a "trole" is too posh to actually be one and probably eats a scone to rhyme with gone under his own private bridge

Lana1234 · 31/01/2018 10:52

Pole in Liverpool

OOOOOOOOOOO · 31/01/2018 10:54

But troll, toll, droll are all pronounced like doll - not trole, tole and drole?

If they are then my pronunciations are wrong too!

I do say pole-ing station though.... Hmm

Shadow666 · 31/01/2018 10:56

Toll rhymes with pole. Its in the dictionary 😂

SleepingStandingUp · 31/01/2018 10:59

Dictionary says troll not trole

amusedbush · 31/01/2018 11:00

SleepingStandingUp

...Scone DOES rhyme with gone Grin

Shadow666 · 31/01/2018 11:01

My dictionary gives both pronunciations for troll.

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 31/01/2018 11:01

I'll ask my Sat Nav.
Whatever it says is definitely the wrong way to say it

SoupDragon · 31/01/2018 11:05

I say "taking it's toll" and then I pronounce it "tole"

Me too. I think this sort of toll is tole but the toll you pay at a toll booth is toll like doll.

Troll is like doll.

Orangecake123 · 31/01/2018 11:06

POLL!

SoupDragon · 31/01/2018 11:08

Scone DOES rhyme with gone

No, it rhymes with drone.

Trinity66 · 31/01/2018 11:08

a toll booth is toll like doll.

That sounds so wrong, I've never heard anyone pronounce it like that before
