to ask what is banned from packed lunches at your school?

My children don't believe me that some schools have banned cheese, eggs, ham, white bread etc. DS1 is 15 and still butthurt about the dinner lady who took away his single square of chocolate on his 6th birthday.

So are there such draconian rules out there? Or is it urban myth?

Nuts, chocolate, crisps, sweets and fizzy drinks. Fair enough in my opinion.

PurpleDaisies · 30/01/2018 19:54

Really? Eggs and ham banned? I’m not sure I believe that one.

At my school, no sweets or chocolate bars allowed.

EggsonHeads · 30/01/2018 19:55

No idea. The ones our are going to/starting next year don't allow packed lunches so I guess they silently enforce any bans. They do have a nut ban that they always point out to us though (one child is allergic).

ColinFlower · 30/01/2018 19:56

Nothing at ours apart from sweets and nuts.

unlimiteddilutingjuice · 30/01/2018 19:56

Just nuts. For obvious reasons.
They say we should "try and choose something healthy" but I don't!

Walkerbean16 · 30/01/2018 19:57

Eggs are banned in my setting due to an allergy.

ALemonyPea · 30/01/2018 19:57

DS1 is at high school, nothing is banned, not even fizzy drinks

DS2 is in middle school, fizzy drinks are banned

DS3 is at first school, fizzy drinks and chocolate products are banned unless in cake form.

They’re all pretty relaxed, the first school do promote and encourage healthy eating though.

Lucked · 30/01/2018 19:58

I ‘think’ only nuts and nut containg products but.

HighwayDragon1 · 30/01/2018 19:58

Whole packets of crisps (but you can decant some into Tupperware)
Fizzy pop

thepatchworkcat · 30/01/2018 19:58

Don’t think anything is banned where I teach although healthy foods are encouraged and anyone sending their child in with a lunch box full of chocolate and junk would probably be spoken to!

Also, butthurt?!? Confused

AuntLydia · 30/01/2018 19:59

Nothing. Even nuts are allowed. Why would eggs be banned as a matter of course?! Surely that would only be if they have someone allergic to them?

littleducks · 30/01/2018 19:59

Nuts
Fizzy drinks
Sweets
Chocolate bars but this is a grey area a club bar for example is ok and I'm not sure where the line is drawn

Chocolatecake12 · 30/01/2018 20:00

Nothing not even nuts.
Sweets and fizzy drinks would be frowned upon - I don’t think it’s ever happened though!

SuperBeagle · 30/01/2018 20:00

Nothing. Not even nuts.

fleshmarketclose · 30/01/2018 20:01

Fizzy pop and energy drinks, everything else is fine in moderation. It seems a sensible policy to me.

PotatoesOfTheCarribean · 30/01/2018 20:01

Nothing whatsoever

Sometimes I send it slabs of cake, I've been known to send in leftover dominos pizza, not a whisper. (don't worry, it's healthy 99% of the time)

It's bizarre

Starlight2345 · 30/01/2018 20:02

Sweets , fizzy drinks and nuts

Why would eggs , cheese and ham be banned . I would be down to jam sandwiches for my Ds . Although he is hot dinners anyway

NeverRed · 30/01/2018 20:02

Just nuts.

2pups · 30/01/2018 20:03

Ours isn't bad - not supposed to have squash in water bottle,

Shouldn't have nuts, fizzy drinks or chocolate & sweets but Kitkats etc ok as is cakes etc.

They aren't strict either.

AriadneThread · 30/01/2018 20:03

I had no idea things had changed so much! When I was at primary school I was the only child who never got to have a packet of crisps and a chocolate bar every single day! Or it felt like I was anyway. I had raisins and a satsuma. So hard done by.

Bippitybopityboo · 30/01/2018 20:04

I really do find that schools that say everything is fine in Moderation have a far better outlook on the whole thing. Unless ofcourse it's for allergies.

Longdistance · 30/01/2018 20:05

Nuts
Fizzy drinks
Chocolate

Coconutspongexo · 30/01/2018 20:05

Butthurt? Are you a teen 😂

Greensleeves · 30/01/2018 20:06

No, he is! It was his description!

Nothing is banned in either school (DS1 - Intermediate, year 7; DS2 primary, year 6). Chocolate and lollies were banned at kindy unless it was a birthday and they were brought in to share. Cake and crisps are fine.
