My children don't believe me that some schools have banned cheese, eggs, ham, white bread etc. DS1 is 15 and still butthurt about the dinner lady who took away his single square of chocolate on his 6th birthday.

So are there such draconian rules out there? Or is it urban myth?

@Greensleeves
YorkshirePudding, would they reject a homemade pasty? Or just shopbought?

Anything with pastry isn't allowed.

I've baked muffins with fresh blueberries that were low fat and low sugar, so healthy in my eyes, but they were not allowed as staff can't determine which is a healthy home made muffin and which is a sugar laden shop bought one Hmm

Cereal bars are allowed though, even sugar laden ones like Rice Crispie Sqaures Hmm

I really wish I hadn't just typed it in his words Blush

I believe it means "pissed off that something didn't go the way you wanted it to"

Apart from crisps, sweets, chocolate, any drink but water, my daughter was told not to bring Babybels anymore as a girl in her class is allergic to them. No either kind of cheese, just Babybels Hmm

You haven’t explained what butthurt means? Did he get smacked?

You really haven't heard the term butthurt?

RavenWings · 31/01/2018 22:04

Is it so hard to Google the word butthurt?

AlexaAmbidextra · 01/02/2018 00:31

I'd support a ban for the term butthurt.

Noregrets25 · 01/02/2018 00:42

I’m just wondering what you give your kids for lunch? I mean if they can’t have bread, pastry, cheese, ham, yogurt, biscuits, crisps etc etc etc, i get the nuts and the fizzy drinks and to an extent the sugary snacks but really... they can’t have a ham sandwich?! So are we expecting them to sit down with cutlery in their lunchboxes and start munching on a chicken ceasar salad (minus the fatty dressing Of course, oh and the croutons) Bet the dinner ladies that confiscate are all overweight!!!! Shock

Dc1 is only at nursery, but has to take a packed lunch. The only banned items are nuts (as another child has a bit allergy), fizzy drinks and big bars of chocolate. Grapes have to be cut in half too.

Letter home from school yesterday, the children are going on a trip. They will need a packed lunch which can be sent from home or provided by school at a cost of £2.50, it has a reminder that home packed lunches must adhere to the school's healthy eating policy.

Banned from the home packed lunches are the items I posted earlier - fizzy drinks/squash, crisps, cakes, sweets, chocolate items, etc.

The school packed lunch will consist of:

  • choice of ham or cheese sandwich
  • packet of cheese and onion crisps
  • an apple or a banana
  • a chocolate chip muffins
  • a Capri sun

Just fizzy drinks and cereal bars (due to nuts).

I'm a dinner lady in a different school to my DC's, and we had one kid with a sharing size packet of crisps, and one of the large size chocolate bars in her packed lunch Hmm

Juanbablo · 01/02/2018 08:16

Nuts, fizzy drinks and sweets.

Aspiringcatlady · 01/02/2018 08:38

Just nuts at my DS school, for obvious reasons. Otherwise they are pretty relaxed!

Flisspaps · 01/02/2018 08:56

We're asked not to send nuts in but other than that, it's pretty much anything goes.

Why would ham be banned?!

mmgirish · 01/02/2018 09:42

Children aren't allowed to bring food from home to the school I work in. It's fantastic! They all eat morning snack, lunch then an afternoon snack provided by the school.

I was amazed how it cut down on all the stuff you had to deal with as a teacher that isn't related to teaching. I used to be a very unenthusiastic lunch checker when I working in the UK as I always thought it was so hypocritical when I could eat whatever I wanted for lunch.

brownelephant · 01/02/2018 09:45

Nuts, seeds (both due to child with severe allergies at school), chocolate, crisps, sweets and fizzy drinks. Fair enough and sensible imo.

PipGirl404 · 01/02/2018 09:46

Butthurt hahahaha

PipGirl404 · 01/02/2018 09:47

This is a nightmare I'm howling at butthurt and my co-workers are giving me death stares hahaha

Deshasafraisy · 01/02/2018 09:48

Just fizzy drinks

dentydown · 01/02/2018 10:19

Primary ds(age 6 and 8) nuts, sweets, fizzy drinks. Healthy food is encouraged. Unfortunately my sons are on the spectrum so the youngest son has a ham roll, mini roll and a drink which is pure apple juice. I worry I’m going to get pulled up on it!

Secondary school - anything goes but three are not allowed energy drinks. There was an accident where the canteen ordered juice style energy drinks thinking they were “proper”juice and they sold out pretty quickly! Grin

BetterEatCheese · 01/02/2018 10:30

Chocolate and cake, which is odd as school dinners have them. I realise this is monitored and only on certain days, but a sweet pudding is always available. Confuses me

AmieJaneEmma · 01/02/2018 20:57

Ours don't mind too much with lunch as long as you don't go overboard on treats. It's snack time they're funny with. I ran out of the fruit my son likes so I sent him with one of those kids snack bars (full of fruit and good stuff) they refused to let him eat it. It was literally dried fruit and oats Hmm they only allow water as a drink. No fruit juice, squash, milk, etc. Just water. I started sending him with an opaque bottle to hide his squash. XD

Equimum · 02/02/2018 09:12

Our school has banned nuts, sesame seeds, soya products and citrus fruits, due to children being allergic. I think eggs and ham are allowed, though.
