to be confused about the Dylan Farrow claims when reading what Moses Farrow has to say?

during the MeToo campaign recently, there’s been loads of talk about Woody Allen and questions about why he’s not been destroyed in the same way as Weinstein and others. I remember back in the nineties reading about the horrendous split between him and Mia (including Mia sending him an incredibly intricate valentine with steak knives through the photographs of her and their children) and being a bit confused about who was telling the truth because they were both making allegations. I didn’t even know Moses Farroe existed until quite recently and having read this, I’m now even more confused and wondering if it’s fair to condemn someone (Netflix are considering dropping his new venture entirely) when the courts wouldn’t take it further. Anyway, this is what Moses has to say. He’s now a 39 year old marriage therapist. I’m wondering why he’s never been on tv talking about this?

The statement of an adult who appears credible and has not sought the limelight over the years, yet still has a vivid recollection of what happened. She says it happened and I believe her.

I read this yesterday from a link on Twitter. It's several years old but is persuasive in its account of Allen's frankly bizarre logic and his double standards in comparing himself to Mia.

Susan so why don't you believe Moses?

Batmanwearspants · 31/01/2018 14:53

I apologise I just read my post on the previous page and I meant to type Dylan no Mia.

So the sentace should be “the only person to blame for what happened to Dylan is woody”

Eltonjohnssyrup · 31/01/2018 14:55

southeast, you can believe both of them. Moses recalls an incident where Dylan said she had been asked to 'lie' by Farrow and he thinks that relates to the abuse. But as I pointed out earlier, by Moses own account Farrow regularly asked children to 'lie' by doing things like taking responsibility for things they hadn't done. So Dylan could well have been talking about something else, like leaving a light on or eating a pie. Also, he thinks Dylan getting the doll is proof. But I suspect if your child had disclosed something distressing like child abuse and was having to be questioned and examined, a lot of parents would respond by buying a toy they wanted to take their mind off it the rest of the time.

Believe him about what? I do believe him that Mia Farrow was unstable etc but how can he know for sure that his stepfather definitely did not abuse his sister?

southeastdweller · 31/01/2018 15:12

Believe him about him saying she was brainwashed.

SusanBunch · 31/01/2018 15:34

With respect, Moses cannot know that Dylan was brainwashed. He cannot know that the events that Dylan remembers definitely did not take place. He is obviously loyal to WA but if Mia was so good at brainwashing her kids, how come he now remembers what actually happened?

southeastdweller · 31/01/2018 15:47

The crux of all this is that none of us know, isn’t it?

papayasareyum · 31/01/2018 15:48

exactly.

Interesting article published today in the Guardian:

To those who say none of us know, well, are we living in a world where it benefits a woman to say that she has been raped and abused? Is that something that gives her kudos? power? success? Not usually. There might be a brief headline but then she's expected to quietly exit stage left, she's had her say, to keep ''going on about it'' is seen as bitter and vindictive? Even if the subject of the accusation has not lost his job, his salary, his friends, his career. No. in this World, the actual world we live in, I believe Dylan.

That kind of argument is ridiculous. It's like when people ask 'Why would she lie?'. Get your evidence together first and then accuse, in my book.

Pagwatch · 03/02/2018 18:05

Saying 'get your evidence' to a bunch of people in the internet isn't stepping too far from ridiculous either.

southeastdweller · 03/02/2018 18:07

And neither is 'well he had an affair with his stepdaughter so that means he probably did it'.

Pagwatch · 03/02/2018 18:18

It isn't unreasonable to question if someone who is prepared to shag a much younger female over whom they have had a position of authority might have difficulty with what is appropriate/abusive
