To think RyanAir are taking things a bit too far now...

Haven't flown with them for years but spotted some cheap flights. I knew they had made lots of items as extras now but even so was shocked. I had no idea they had cut back so much.

We always fly with only hand luggage to fit within requirements, a soft case, not a trolley etc. They've made this impossible now as you can only take one very small bag (20cm X 20 cm X 15cm from memory) on board unless you pay extra, which means you can take 2 - one very small and one hand luggage. So I'm taking the very small and we've paid £12 for DH to take 2 bags.

We're not sitting together as we didn't pay extra for selectable seats, and we were allocated middle row seats 5 rows away from each other.

You now pay extra to have aisle, window, extra legroom or to sit in the first half dozen rows.
I've sucked it up as its a cheap break without the kids, but I won't be travelling as a family with them, it's just not worth paying extra to meet the same standards as other budget airlines.

It's not under 15's - it's under 12's.

And you still need to either do priority boarding or pay for cabin bags to be guaranteed your luggage. If you only book your seat there's no cabin bags included.

GreyGardens88

what annoys me is families with kids not paying to have their seats allocated and then when they're on the flight try to get everyone around them to move so they can sit together angry

Not true... We booked our flight with them and had 3 seats to choose for free. That was 1adult and 2 children oldest is 11. I happily paid the extra £6 return for the 4th seat. And it was still cheaper / more sociable hours than other budget airlines.

IrenetheQuaint · 27/01/2018 18:11

Yes, they do deliberately separate people now. I've flown Ryanair four times in the last six months and every time been separated from the friend I was flying with by several rows, even when there were spare seats nearer us.

HoppyHannah · 27/01/2018 18:13

There are airline choices out there where snowflakes will be catered for. But they will often have to pay a premium.

How is Easyjet for the moaners? If it's great why not just forget about Ryanair and stop moaning in public. You have a choice!

Ryanair is brilliant. I have never had a problem with them. They are always on time apart from Air Traffic control strikes or bad weather, unlike some other airlines that I am familiar with!

This place has become the depression session moany go to place for many. I am heartily sick of people moaning about things that are not life threatening really. Thank you for reading.

Buttercupsandaisies · 27/01/2018 18:14

No you get your free 10 k luggage either way.

You pay only if you want it in the overhead locker. In flying next week and taking 4x free 10k and a 20 k which I've paid for

AnyFucker · 27/01/2018 18:15

Agree with you there Hoppy

You pays your money, you take your choice

Buttercupsandaisies · 27/01/2018 18:15

The policy is clear. I've only paid seats - not priority and I still get a free 10k pp. it'll just be taken off me at the gate

I do think they've deliberately kept that in the small print on the advert tho! I had to email them!

HoppyHannah · 27/01/2018 18:15

Some Brits are tight as ducks arses.

You pay your money, or you make your choice.

HoppyHannah · 27/01/2018 18:17

X posted with you there Any Fucker (great name BTW!)

AnyFucker · 27/01/2018 18:18

👍

taskmaster · 27/01/2018 18:21

Its scrawled across the website in big letters, you really can't possibly miss it.

HoppyHannah · 27/01/2018 18:25

It is very simple.

You can take a small bag on board that will fit under the seat in front. They don't measure or weigh it, but don't take the piss either.

You can take your wheelie on board for the overhead bins if you pay.

You can STILL take your 10kg wheelie FREE, but if you don't pay it will go in the hold.

Are some people stupid or just tight and stupid. I don't get it.

Buttercupsandaisies · 27/01/2018 19:26

on the emails I get it mentions in massive print that the only way to get the 10k onboard is to pay. The fact that you are still entitled to it for free is written in the small print at the bottom! At first glance it looks like you need priority boarding.

St3amro0m · 27/01/2018 20:03

I've never had any problems with any of the low cost airlines. However I have seen people have to pay at the boarding point where they have tried to sneak huge bags on to the plane. No sympathy !

PerfumeIsAMessage · 27/01/2018 20:08

I flew with them on 5/1 and there were enormous fuckoff size posters all over Stansted advising that the changes would be coming in on iirc 18/1.

If that's keeping it quiet...

Bebespain · 27/01/2018 21:24

I see the "don't like them, don't use them then" brigade are at it again. Why does this comment piss me off so much? Erm, because some of us have NO choice because it is the only airline that flies to our home city or the destination we want to go to. When I want to visit the city I'm from, I fly Ryanair or I don't go. Do people not realise this?
As for their new cabin baggage policy stopping all the people taking huge bags on board that don't fit into the overhead lockers and the subsequent delays, I wouldn't be so sure. I flew with them last week and the amount of priority boarders was unbelievable. That queue was longer than the non-priority one. There was just the same baggage palaver as before. The only difference as far as I could see is that Ryanair are now quids in with all the stupid people now paying to carry their trolley cases on!

Oriunda · 27/01/2018 21:50

We fly very frequently with Ryanair. We only travel with hand baggage, and won’t want to wait for our luggage to arrive at Stansted, so we will pay the priority on the return flight. Not so bothered on outward flights so we probably won’t. As I travel with my son, I have to pay for an allocated seat but his seat reservation is often free.

It’s annoying but I get why they’ve done it. They started being nice, not weighing or measuring the bags, and people started taking the piss, trying to shove ridiculously large bags into the overhead lockers. It got to the point where lots of luggage got put in the hold and delayed the plane.

Olga81 · 27/01/2018 22:05

When I want to visit the city I'm from, I fly Ryanair or I don't go. Do people not realise this?

So if Ryanair didn't exist, you wouldn't easily be able to fly to your home city at all. Because realistically at lot of the routes that Ryanair serve wouldn't exist otherwise, it's not like they would be served by another airline.

As long as Ryanair continues to serve an airport that's only 40 minutes from my parents in law I'm happy to dance to their tune.

Trills · 28/01/2018 00:41

When I want to visit the city I'm from, I fly Ryanair or I don't go.

If nobody flew that route, would you not go?
Or would you not have chosen to live where you live?
Or would you sort it out?

Loonoonow · 28/01/2018 14:28

I find it hard to believe that some airports only support Ryanair flights but I am open to being corrected. Does that mean other airlines used to fly there and then stopped? Or that to get there from your home city you would need to take a connecting flight?

ForalltheSaints · 28/01/2018 14:32

I agree with the OP except for one word 'now'. Ryanair have always gone too far. The government should step in and ban some of their extra charges. I'd also hit Michael O'Leary personally by getting racecourses to make extra hidden charges when his horses race. Wear and tear of the grass for example.

Olga81 · 28/01/2018 14:32

The only flight from the UK to the airport I mention is served by Ryanair. Other airlines fly out of this airport but they do not fly to the UK.

Weedsnseeds1 · 28/01/2018 14:42

Some small, regional airports do only have Ryanair flights from the UK. There are usually other budget airlines doing the only route from their country ( e.g. Germany to France) and a few internal flights. So they aren't Ryanair only airports, but Ryanair may be your only option for a direct flight from the UK / Ireland to a small airport.
PP mentioned Aer Lingus. Yes, the prices are often comparable, but my local airport is prone to fog and their smaller prop jet planes can't take off so there are a lot of cancellations ( or coach transfers to Heathrow which means you spend a whole day getting to Ireland) and some of their scheduling is dire. For example, Cork is a three day round trip for a day of work for me using them as mid morning flight out and mid afternoon back, one flight per day.

SoupDragon · 28/01/2018 15:06

The government should step in and ban some of their extra charges

Why? You have the choice about which “extras” you purchase. All he has really done is strip everything out of the price so the base price is purely flight only.

Trills · 28/01/2018 15:13

Banning extra charges?

That's like saying that MacDonalds should only be allowed to sell meal deals, and ban selling you a burger without chips and a drink.

It's perfectly possible to only want the burger.

I am happy to have the charges separated out, so I am only paying for the things that I want.
