To not see the problem

A friend was telling me her partner had a go at her for putting the bath mat in the washing machine with the towels. Apparently this is really disgusting and it should be washed separately. Friend agree and said she hadn't actually put them in together he just thought she had. Aibu to not see why it's disgusting?? Maybe putting the door mat in with the clothes but can't see what wrong with the bath mat?

Don't see the problem. Surely both towels and Bath mat have the same after bath residue on them (ie water and bath products!)

TheQueenOfWands · 27/01/2018 13:10

People get stressed about the weirdest things.

MothertotheLordsofmisrule · 27/01/2018 13:10

I would say a towel is worse than a bath mat, at the most wet (and clean) feet on the mat.

But potential bum germs on towel.

MothertotheLordsofmisrule · 27/01/2018 13:11

Hit post too soon!

But I just sling both in on a 60 wash - nukes anything.

Midnightpony · 27/01/2018 13:11

I'm kind of on the fence about it but I definitely think if he has a "proper way" he wants things washed, he washes them. Otherwise your friend does it her way and he shuts up

Maybe her partner knows he has done something disgusting with the bath mat, like piss on out when he misses the toilet

Oldraver · 27/01/2018 13:12

No I cant see why it's disgusting Confused

I take it the partner will be on bathmat washing duties now ?

SheepySheepy · 27/01/2018 13:14

Some people think bath mats get poo splash. I think.

Flutterbyeee · 27/01/2018 13:14

"Bum germs" Grin

ThisLittleKitty · 27/01/2018 13:16

Eww maybe it's the piss thing!

I don't see the issue - I always do ours together on a 60 wash.....

MrTurtleLikesKisses · 27/01/2018 13:16

How else do you wash the bath mat? In its own? Hmm

MrTurtleLikesKisses · 27/01/2018 13:16

*on its own?

MadRainbow · 27/01/2018 13:19

It's all getting washed especially on 60°... really don't see this issue it's not like germs survive after that. If it's that big a deal get antibacterial laundry cleanser Hmm

ThisLittleKitty · 27/01/2018 13:20

Yeh on it own I guess but seems like a massive waste!

Some people think bath mats get poo splash. I think.

I don't even want to know what people do in their bath or showers to come up with things like that

Anyway, for the most questionable houses, bleach/zoflora/ napisan in the wash should resolve the problem?

GrooovyLass · 27/01/2018 13:34

I stick mine in with towels and I do them at 80° - the only things I do at anything like that temperature!

SeaCabbage · 27/01/2018 13:35

Maybe some people tread on the bathmat with their outdoor shoes on so that would make it pretty horrible to have in with towels.

Those mats which only have bare feet going on them would be seen to be cleaner surely?

Trills · 27/01/2018 13:36

Even if I walk on it with outdoor shoes - it's all getting WASHED.

LaurieMarlow · 27/01/2018 13:37

What a load of nonsense

BeyondThePage · 27/01/2018 13:37

The bath mat has been on the floor.

The towels have been used to wipe all sorts of bodily areas.

Both are dirty, both get cleaned.

Some people have funny views on "germs" - won't wash the dog's bowl in the dishwasher, but happy to put boards/knives that cut raw chicken in there.

doctorcuntybollocks · 27/01/2018 13:39

Perhaps he just wanted to have a go at her and that was the first thing he could think of.

viques · 27/01/2018 13:43

I put flannels, face muslins, towels, bathmats and the microfibre cloths I use to clean the bath and sink all in the same wash. I haven't come down with plague, yet.

Celticlassie · 27/01/2018 13:45

But it's getting washed. Anything that goes in the machine will be swooshed around with water and detergent till they're clean, then rinsed in more water so all the soap (and any 'bum germs' are gone. What is gross about that?
