To be terrified I might have cancer?

I have 2 Breast lumps in the same area of my breast. I’m 29 years old (was 28 when I found both lumps.

The doctor examined and said she wasn’t concerned (didn’t feel like cancer to her). This was about 6 months ago and I’ve found it hard not to worry even though I was given some reassurance.

One of the lumps feels like it may have got bigger and now I’m terrified.

If I didn’t have my two girls (aged 1 & 4), I wouldn’t want to get out of bed. I’m too scared to make a dr’s appointment. I don’t want this to be cancer. I’ve read that cancer in young women is very aggressive. I want to be around to see my children grow old.

I’m on my own as my husband works away, I’m just so so scared.

I feel your pain OP. I’m 26 and waiting to find out if the lumps on my ovaries are cancer. Either way they need removing but we’re waiting as long as possible to reduce risk to the ovaries. It’s overwhelming and terrifying. Sending good thoughts to you

MarthasHarbour · 22/02/2018 12:29

OP please write everything down. Dates, consultations etc, going back to when you first saw your GP last year. Write down everything that was said between you both.

You may never need this information, but then again you may need it. I hope everything works out OK for you, but please just keep a log of everything.

Happyland88 · 22/02/2018 12:31

MarthasHarbour I cant remember exactly when I saw the GP last year. Sorry if this is a silly question, but what is the benefit of logging all of this?

Hi Op, I have been in a similar situation to you. I had a lump and discharge from the nipple. I had a raised line from the lump to nipple.

Mine turned out to be periductal ectasia. It was an infection in the duct of my breast. I had strong antibiotics for a long time and even now 4 years later still get an occasional flare up.

Fingers crossed for your results. xx

Chattette1 · 22/02/2018 12:46

Fingers crossed OP. When you said cracked nipple and discharge I wondered if it might be mastitis? (A non serious infection of the milk ducts). I know people who have had that before. The main thing is you are being proactive and facing this and the liklihood is you will get the all clear and be able to get on with your life without worrying. I know what it's like worrying about a health issue and it's terrible so I really feel for you.

MarthasHarbour · 22/02/2018 14:27

OP because if this is a cancerous lump and the GP did not refer you at the first (or second) instance then you may need to raise this with NHS England as patient safety concern.

Dont worry if you cannot remember the exact date, just a rough estimate (Month and Year).

As I say, hopefully you will not need this information at all. But best be prepared.

Again, I hope this all works out well for you Flowers

Happyland88 · 22/02/2018 14:29

I think you only get mastitis while breast feeding Chattette1 and it’s normally accompanied by flu like symptoms, I think. So I don’t think it could be that, but thank you.

BakerBear · 22/02/2018 14:43

Anyone can get mastitis. It is much more likely if you are breastfeeding but anyone can get it.

beepthemeep · 22/02/2018 15:18

Well done for pushing even though it's terrifying OP - you've done the right thing.

Statistically and especially given your age, the odds are far more in your favour than not. Keeping everything very tightly crossed for you.

And v glad to see elton's news.

Annabelle4 · 22/02/2018 15:21

Thinking of you OP Flowers

TheMShip · 22/02/2018 15:29

I've been through the breast clinic for a couple of lumps to get checked. They are lovely teams but there's a lot of waiting around. Take a good book. Flowers

Footle · 01/03/2018 15:51

OP, how are you doing?

Happyland8 · 03/03/2018 19:09

Thanks for asking Footle. Long story but had my emails hacked so I deleted my mumsnet account and started a fresh (hence the name change). Breast clinic appointment is on Monday. I'm looking forward to it and dreading it in equal measure.

octoberfarm · 03/03/2018 23:21

Wishing you a heap of luck for Monday, @Happyland8 Thanks

Footle · 03/03/2018 23:41

Glad you haven't got much longer to wait, Happyland. Wishing you the best. Hope you'll come back and tell us how it's gone. 🍀

SantaClauseMightWork · 03/03/2018 23:54

If I could send actual flowers to you right now, I would.
Lots of them Flowers 💐🌺🌷🌻🌼🌸🌹

snewsname · 04/03/2018 00:32

All the best. At least you will know one way or the other.

MrsDilber · 04/03/2018 00:40

You have to make an appointment. DH had a rushed scan for neck lumps, gp said he thought it wasnt cancer, but sent for fast scan anyway, and it was just a fatty lump.

If you really, really want to watch your daughter's grow up, you'll get yourself back to gp as fast as you can, to rule out anything sinister.

The earlier these things are detected, the better your chances are. But, it probably is a cyst. You need an ultrasound asap.

Happyland8 · 04/03/2018 00:56

Thank you all so much. Really means a lot. I'm going on my own and I'm pretty scared but it has to be done. Keep everything crossed for me 🤞🏼 I promise to update as soon as I can.

Collettegirl · 04/03/2018 06:39

Go back to the Gp.

Maddiemademe · 04/03/2018 06:57

Good luck. Thinking lots of positive thoughts for you. Well done for facing it Flowers.

Footle · 04/03/2018 07:18

Mrs Dilber and Colette, why are you replying if you haven't read the thread?

Motoko · 04/03/2018 09:40

Mrs Dilber and Colette, why are you replying if you haven't read the thread?

Yes, at least have the courtesy to read the OP's posts, and be aware that she had to namechange, so not all her posts are highlighted.

All the best OP.

Happyland8 · 04/03/2018 20:38

Thanks all!

MamaDuckling · 04/03/2018 21:31

Good luck tomorrow OP (happyland)? We're rooting for you. Keep your nerve and remember the stats are still in your favour
