Men not wearing socks

Not really an AIBU I suppose, but what is it with this latest fashion of men not wearing socks?
Don't their shoes smell?

Christmascardqueen · 27/01/2018 02:57

men's fashion is sooooo strange. not keen on the lack of socks or the crotch down by the knees or the tight around the hips to the point you waddle when you walk.

Foobarjar · 27/01/2018 03:04

I hate wearing socks! Don't blame anyone for not wearing them. Look forward to flip flop season - march to November! 😬

TenancyTroublesAgain · 27/01/2018 05:30

I've never seen this, gross.

VanGoghsLeftEar · 27/01/2018 06:00

You see it a lot in London, especially the Tube. Saw a guy in a white shirt, tight pale blue jacket, red rolled up trousers and loafers with no socks over New Year at Victoria. He also had one of those silly long at the top hair cuts and a goatee. I put him under "Genus: Hipster". Jesus I am getting old. But of my husband went out like that ( he never would) I would divorce him. Nope.

Nquartz · 27/01/2018 06:57

This was a thing about 15 years ago, hopefully it will pass soon, looks bloody ridiculous 😠

I saw a bloke wearing dress shoes, smart trousers rolled up of course & no socks last August in Disney world, his feet must have been so sweaty 😷

StripySocksAndDocs · 27/01/2018 07:10

I'm ampodophobic. I've seen this fashion out and about. But I ok with socklessness in men and women when there's full coverage shoes involved.

ShackUp · 27/01/2018 07:51

It's a bit 'George and Andrew in Espadrilles', isn't it?

I thought the '90s we're back, this would never have been allowed in the '90s

sonjadog · 27/01/2018 08:01

I assumed they were wearing pop socks. Are they definitely bare-foot?

MsHomeSlice · 27/01/2018 08:08

it's something we often note and comment on when in the big city

"did you see the state of that?...no socks"

"fucking hipster twat"

we nod, companionably.

it's a bit like a big city bingo card, sockless hipster, £17.50 for a beer and a small G&T, someone standing on the wrong side of the escalator, parent in NG lecturing Jonty and Jocasta on Hieronymus Bosch picture, squawking women trying to neck prosecco discreetly on the tube.

:o

Hellywelly10 · 27/01/2018 08:13

It's OK in summer. But not in January ffs!

wanderings · 27/01/2018 08:44

I have to say I'm puzzled by men going sockless in formal shoes, because it looks really uncomfy. and I don't think it looks great. I suppose it gets them noticed if nothing else.

I myself like going sockless in comfy shoes. Does anyone agree that going sockless in trainers was popular in the early 90's, before trainer socks were widespread? When I was at secondary school, many girls at my school were always sockless in their trainers for PE. When non-uniform day was in the summer, bare ankles in trainers and Kickers were to be seen all round, on both boys and girls.

Old habits die hard, and more often than not I'm barefoot in trainers, Toms, Skechers GoWalks, Converse, in summer and winter, because I like how it looks and feels (I seem to be lucky that my feet don't sweat a lot).

But then I wonder why flip flops are so popular - I can't walk in them at all without feeling sore.

Sparklingbrook · 27/01/2018 09:14

This thread is making my feet hurt.

I hate feet. Grin I really don't want to see anyone's trotters.

specialsubject · 27/01/2018 09:29

Less plug ugly than a woman in four inch heels, feet twisted and straining, arse sticking out for balance, sulk on face due to pain.

lastnamefirstfirstnamelast · 27/01/2018 09:36

Saw this the other day in a restaurant. Its must be so uncomfy...all sweaty, slidey...blistery....

SirWibbles209 · 27/01/2018 09:38

I've thought this and it makes me feel sick 😭

DarthNigel · 27/01/2018 09:52

It happens a lot near me (herts/Essex borders). All the men here are at it-even ones old enough to know better. It's looks spectacularly wanky.

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 27/01/2018 09:59

I'm really not keen on this look.

Although a pair of espadrilles worn sans socks was quite helpful in quashing an embarrassingly big crush I had on one of my DC's activity leaders.

operaha · 27/01/2018 09:59

My 18 year old does this! He does a lot of musical performances and always gets ribbed by the compere and md for it but he looks great

Sparklingbrook · 27/01/2018 10:00

DB lives in Bucks, I will need to ask him if it has reached there. I haven't seen this in RL in the Midlands yet.

SuperDandy · 27/01/2018 10:02

Pop socks people, they are all wearing pop socks. Just like women and girls do when they don't want their hosiery to be on view.

Take a deep breath and examine your privilege here. Females get to choose from a wide range of hosiery options. Men get, well, socks. If they choose colours other than black brown blue they get sneered at. If they like breezy ankles they get sneered at. I know men get privilege in vastly many areas, but in the area of clothing they are so squashed it's ridiculous.

Personally, I'm going knee length paisley right now, and on full view.

norfolkenclue · 27/01/2018 10:04

Wow! Judging much? If this was reversed, with a post about 'women wearing socks with heels' it would be a whole different story I'm guessing. Leave them alone! It doesn't hurt you! Women don't wear socks with most shoes 👠 and you don't hear men asking them to cover up their equally minging feet!

Sparklingbrook · 27/01/2018 10:04

I hope they are wearing pop socks, the alternative is not pleasant.

No deep breaths or privilege here, my favourite attire is boots and socks.

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 27/01/2018 10:14

What utterly enrages me is an otherwise well cut suit with too-short trouser cuffs to show off the pallid bony excrescences. A gentleman's suiting should reveal no more than his watch crown and the upper half of his Adam's apple.

SummerRoberts · 27/01/2018 10:18

My DP often looks like he's now wearing socks, but always does. He gets those invisible socks from primark. I happen to think it looks quite nice Blush

SummerRoberts · 27/01/2018 10:18
