I just love going away and have really loved most places. One place in particular really Underwhelmed me...Gibraltar...just like Britain in the sun! I'm sure it has so much to offer, but I couldn't wait to cross the border back to Spain!

Gibraltar was a let down. Early 80s provincial English town in the sun.

Pompeii was meh at the time but having subsequently been to LEptis magna and ephesus it absolutely pales in comparison

ScandiGirl10 · 20/01/2018 22:12

Rome - smelly, lots of beggars, feel I could go back in 20 years and it would be exactly the same (in a bad way)
Crete - meh
Barcelona - loved the Gaudi attractions but meh to everything else
London - go roughly once a month for work and cannot wait to leave

Overwhelmed by Pembrokeshire, Scottish Highlands, Amalfi Coast, New York

Thistlebelle · 20/01/2018 22:13

How can anyone not love Rome?! I’d go every year if it were up to me.

MermaidUnicorn · 20/01/2018 22:14

New York. Great shopping but aesthetically London is more beautiful and interesting. Agree about San Francisco - a bit meh.

KurriKurri · 20/01/2018 22:14

Denis Severs House in London.
Load of overpriced pretentious old bollocks.

I love Dublin though - one of my favourite cities.

Roussette · 20/01/2018 22:14

Gloucester is pretty naff. It's just lots of roundabouts Grin

Some of these pots are funny, it's a good job we're all different!

butIamrightright · 20/01/2018 22:14

IamPickleRick Yes to the NY tube system as a born & bred Londoner I couldn’t get it at all. I’m sure I changed lines by having to get off tube, exit & cross the street & then down to another tube.

I’m desperate to go to Tokyo so interesting to see others didn’t like Japan.

MsHarry · 20/01/2018 22:15

What were people expecting to find in Gloucester? Dr Foster?

peanut2017 · 20/01/2018 22:15

Didn't like Las Vegas but we went in July and the weather was so hot so maybe that had something to do with it

Grand Canyon was a let down

storynanny · 20/01/2018 22:16

I lived in wiltshire as a child in the 50's and 60's and one of our favourite Sunday afternoon drives was to Stonehenge. In those days you could climb on and play in the stone circle. We loved it.
I didnt like
Athens
Hamburg
Naples

loveheartsandchoc · 20/01/2018 22:16

Paris.

DunnoWhy · 20/01/2018 22:17

Paris always give me creeps. It's so overrated. I feel very, very bad vibes in Paris. I never liked the place despite being there with my parents and later with DH and DD and also alone for work several times, on each occasion i was dying to get away.

Similarly South Wales coast gives me very bad vibes too. Once we went to Tenby and i was suffoccating there, i couldn't wait to get away. It was an awful, depressing feeling.

I don't have very positive feelings in Essex and Norfolk and Suffolk coastline either. It gives a cold and uneasy vibes, i feel loneliness and isolation and depression in those places and that feeling goes away when i leave those places.

I haven't been to the coastline north of Norfolk- Suffolk but i have several work colleagues that come from the coastal area of the Northeast of England and according to them it is very depressing there, so much so that they never want to go back at any cost. We work in London.

I used to live in North London pre-child. Before the time of dd being born we moved to South East due to affordability. At the time i hated South East and missed my North London for months and months. That was more than a decade ago and now North London gives me very negative uneasy unfamiliar feelings and i hate being in North London and can't wait to get back to my South East haven.

Familiarity means a lot to me.

TulipsInAJug · 20/01/2018 22:18

Balmoral. It was disappointingly small, the surrounding scenery was very monotonous and it felt like we were trespassing as we tramped through the Queen's home.

MsHarry · 20/01/2018 22:19

As for Suffolk, I love Aldeburgh and Southwold.

rothbury · 20/01/2018 22:19

Rome is my favourite place in the world!!! Grin

Underwhelmed by Osaka - scary, Tunisia - dullsville, Munich - sterile

ElliePhillips · 20/01/2018 22:19

Lisbon. Crap city. Loveliest people.

Long time ago though, 2002 so perhaps it has improved.

MsHarry · 20/01/2018 22:19

Didn't know you could visit Balmoral.

Love2cook · 20/01/2018 22:20

Totally agree with San Fran, baseball game was the best bit. Also Mexico, like a hotter version of Benidorm.

RoobieDoobie · 20/01/2018 22:20

Japan - I don't know how anyone couldn't be impressed. Vending machines that sell new shirts and ties in case you were too drunk to make it home, little machines in toilets that play running water so people don't have to hear you pee, immaculate taxis with automatically opening doors, very punctual trains, very very polite people, onsens, the history, the culture, it is very very different from the Uk which is part of the appeal I think

DontbeaDickaboutit · 20/01/2018 22:21

Rome.

So much graffiti and absolutely filthy.

To be fair, there was a human shit outside my hotel room door one morning when I woke up so it wasn't the best experience.

butIamrightright · 20/01/2018 22:21

Yep Lisbon is super friendly. Good food & nightlife too but not much to see.

Bearbehind · 20/01/2018 22:21

I haven't been to the coastline north of Norfolk- Suffolk but i have several work colleagues that come from the coastal area of the Northeast of England and according to them it is very depressing there

WTAF

You do realise Norfolk and Suffolk aren't in the NE?

Is there anywhere you actually do like the first time you visit it dunno?

MsHarry · 20/01/2018 22:21

I've always fancied Japan, amazed at the 'scary' comments. Also want to visit Scandinavia, any thoughts?

jemmstar1980 · 20/01/2018 22:22

I’m finding this so interesting how some people hate the places I love and love the places I hate.

I went Barbados 13 years ago and hated it but went back last year and loved it!!

NYC I absolutely love - sorry 😐

ElliePhillips · 20/01/2018 22:22

Paris always give me creeps. It's so overrated. I feel very, very bad vibes in Paris.

Agree with this. Hate Paris. Used to go there every six months for work (fashion weeks) and dreaded it. Horrible place. Equally unpleasant people.
