I just love going away and have really loved most places. One place in particular really Underwhelmed me...Gibraltar...just like Britain in the sun! I'm sure it has so much to offer, but I couldn't wait to cross the border back to Spain!

Come on, Doris, say something about Australia, preferably something that sums up a continent-sized country. :o

DreamyMcDreamy · 21/01/2018 23:30

Damn those French people speaking French in their own country! Could at least TRY to speak English, rude fkrs lol

suchatiredbunny · 21/01/2018 23:32

I didn't like Cairo when we visited, it was dirty and everywhere you looked over there was rubbish and rats in the streets. Most corner cafes had large groups of men outside, we hardly saw any women and I found it intimidating. We went to the pyramids then the Sphinx which seemed really small after the pyramids, even though it's not! I was really surprised as I was expecting to love Egypt more than Israel (we did them one after the other) but I loved what I saw of Israel and would like to go back whereas I was really disappointed with Egypt (although the Cairo museum was brilliant!).

Gingernaut · 21/01/2018 23:32

Disney World Florida.

An over-hyped, over-priced, mainly plastic funfair.

Disney World Florida

Thermowoman · 22/01/2018 00:10

Oh yes Doris, please do Australia!

I can't decide if my favourite is the London eye having a view of London, dull, Is my favourite, or the one writing off Australia for being big and empty. Grin

Florence had some of the friendliest people I've ever met. I went in February both to there and to Barcelona which was probably a good idea.

I loved Naples but I appear to be in a minority! I spent hours at night riding round the buses and eating in little back street restaurants. Someone on a scooter did try to rob me when I arrived at the station in broad daylight but when he grabbed my bumbag he fell off his scooter as I'd fastened it to my clothes with several safety pins Grin

eloisesparkle · 22/01/2018 07:09

TREACLE
I was coming from Dublin Smile

'I expected so much more' this was in relation to Cooenhagen, not the weather.

cambodianfoxhound · 22/01/2018 07:11

Bangkok. Been a number of times and just makes me feel very uneasy. I think its the seedy side to it, I always leave desperate to get in a hot shower and wash it away. Have desperately tried to like it but just can't.

areyoubeingserviced · 22/01/2018 07:22

LA was a big disappointment.
Athens - A lot of graffiti and stray dogs

areyoubeingserviced · 22/01/2018 07:30

Also Paris- cannot bear the place

MissWood · 22/01/2018 07:38

Chatsworth is nothing to do with Churchill. It's in Derbyshire and is home to the Dukeand Duchess of Devonshire. It's an absolutely gorgeous place with stunning grounds.

LizzieSiddal · 22/01/2018 07:42

I was also perplexed by the Chatsworth/Churchill connection.

It’s almost as if the people commenting haven’t been to the place they are talking about. Hmm Grin

Lndnmummy · 22/01/2018 07:42

LondonBlush

CrabappleBiscuit · 22/01/2018 07:53

The whole of London? Chiswick is lovely, or walking through the city in a weekend, Regent’s Park?.

cambodianfoxhound · 22/01/2018 08:18

Interesting the comments about Norfolk and bad vibes. Me too and I don't know why. Just a feeling of impending doom there for me - even though objectively I can see a lot of it is quite beautiful. I get an uneasy 'horror film' type of vibe. Bizarre.

I think a trick to a lot of the European capitals is to go outside of summer when you don't get the crowds and the heat. Rome is wonderful in winter I think.

battenbergbutterfly · 22/01/2018 08:19

The OP asked for places we had been underwhelmed by and people have replied with their places and the reasons why. So what if some of the reasons don't make sense to some, they are the reasons they felt underwhelmed by the places. The responses taking the piss are just a bit self absorbed and 'look at me I'm so hilarious'. You're not.

Taffeta · 22/01/2018 08:25

I agree European cities in general are better outside of July/August.

We usually go early May or October, although I’ve been many times to both Paris & Rome in the winter. (still not a Paris fan)

Weather makes a massive difference. For me, cold is OK, but grey rain, like we’ve had here the last few days, does make a difference to how I feel about a place. I was so looking forward to visiting Stockholm recently, and it pissed down the whole time, and I felt really cheated, as if I’d just simply have to visit again in better weather as I felt so let down by it. I’m sure it wasn’t Stockholm itself though, it was the weather.
