I just love going away and have really loved most places. One place in particular really Underwhelmed me...Gibraltar...just like Britain in the sun! I'm sure it has so much to offer, but I couldn't wait to cross the border back to Spain!

Sorrento. Have been to various places in Italy and they have all felt ‘authentic’ and had their own appeal, bar Sorrento which could have been any generic tourist resort in any country.

Skowvegas · 20/01/2018 21:12

Monhegan Island.

musicmum75 · 20/01/2018 21:12

Barcelona. Dirty, smelly, very unfriendly and the food was nowhere near as good as I was expecting.

annandale · 20/01/2018 21:13

Winchester. Once had a dirty weekend there and then had to return to live nearby for a job. Dullsville and self satisfied, and I moved there after a decade in London so the fact that everyone was white freaked me out.

Airbiscuits · 20/01/2018 21:13

Haha. I was wondering when Stonehenge would come up. I live not far away and never bothered visiting as it looked like a bunch of rocks when driving past. The Americans I work with were horrified I lived so close and had never bothered, so last year I did go. Yup, bunch of rocks.

I might apply to become a Druid so i can get closer but suspect it’s still just rocks.

I like SF though. Yes lots of beggars, but l love the morning mists and amazing views from my clients offices. Stunning.

divadee · 20/01/2018 21:13

Pompeii. Some bits were really interesting. The rest not so much.

ilovesooty · 20/01/2018 21:14

Another vote for Dublin for all the reasons given.

DearyDearyDeary · 20/01/2018 21:14

Philadelphia. City of Brotherly Love.
You'd never guess it though.

georgedawes · 20/01/2018 21:15

Got to agree about Stonehenge. Avebury is much better and you can get close up to the stones.

DingDongDenny · 20/01/2018 21:16

Florence - was really looking forward to it - but very touristy and not romantic at all

LokiBear · 20/01/2018 21:17

Mount Rushmore. There was a sense of....'well, there are four faces carved into a mountain. Now what?'

AntArcticFox · 20/01/2018 21:17

Could she take a trip out to Carmel ( beach) , Sausalito or Muir Woods to get away from it?

Alpacaandgo · 20/01/2018 21:17

Stonehenge. I'd never been and I took the kids as I always wanted to go. As we pulled up ds(4) said 'this doesn't look very much fun mummy'. And it really wasn't. I love history and thought it would feel really spiritual but it was just so touristy and commercial.

crunched · 20/01/2018 21:17

The London Eye- looked out of the pod and saw London. Don't get me wrong, love London (loved The Shard viewing floor) but The Eye was dull.
I really enjoyed San Fran though.
I felt quite spooked in Alnwick, not sure why...and some friends of ours love it so much they honeymooned there.

AntArcticFox · 20/01/2018 21:17

San Fran that is!

BaffledMummy · 20/01/2018 21:18

Lisbon ...I was convinced I was going to love it but was just underwhelmed by everything. All just a bit meh...

juddyrockingcloggs · 20/01/2018 21:21

Rome and Florence. Just not my bag at all.

Though the worst place I have ever been on holiday was the Norfolk broads! We went with my in laws (who I love!) when I was heavily pregnant on a boat. I am not ashamed to say I might have had a bit of a cry!

Undesceaux · 20/01/2018 21:23

The Eden project. Lost Gardens of Heligan are so much better

alphajuliet123 · 20/01/2018 21:23

Phuket. Compared to the rest of Thailand I though it was all a bit shit and the beaches really weren't great in comparison to the smaller islands.

theftbyfinding · 20/01/2018 21:23

Venice Beach, LA. WTF is that all about? Filthy, fake and full of flakes.
Barbados, nice beach but not particularly safe to travel in. Scenery not a patch on Scotland.
New York. Can't see what the fuss is about to be honest.

Chesntoots · 20/01/2018 21:24

I agree on Pompeii. Not as interesting as Herculaneum, crowded and you are herded round. Very disappointed...but i guess thats my own fault!

I did, however, love Lanzarote more than I expected to. I quite like bleak!

Thistlebelle · 20/01/2018 21:24

Versailles. It was many years ago now so it may have improved but given the history of the place it really wasn’t very well presented.

I agree about Gibraltar though. It’s like Watford in the sun.

ItsaPeppaPink · 20/01/2018 21:25

Dublin!!! Why, oh why would anyone go...overpriced, overcrowded, no unique selling point - Guinness and leprechauns.....more to Ireland than.this!!

Knittedfairies · 20/01/2018 21:25

Niagara Falls. Tacky!

PutDownThatLaptop · 20/01/2018 21:25

Hollywood Boulevard. Sleazy and intimidating.
