I just love going away and have really loved most places. One place in particular really Underwhelmed me...Gibraltar...just like Britain in the sun! I'm sure it has so much to offer, but I couldn't wait to cross the border back to Spain!

Not a place but a thing. The Severn Bore.

ineedwine99 · 20/01/2018 21:37

LA was bit meh, did a days guided tour, that was sufficient to see enough.

Jon66 · 20/01/2018 21:37

Agree re: Gibraltar but there are a couple of lovely sandy beaches away from the town, Sandy Bay and Catalan Bay. Best off season when the weather is lovely and the tourists have gone home! And there is a store selling Waitrose produce too which doesn't mean a lot when you are only there for a few days, but after being Spanish side for a few months it is rather nice to pick up a few treats there.

LorelaiVictoriaGilmore · 20/01/2018 21:37

The Grand Canyon. My parents took me on holiday to Arizona/Utah/Colorado/Nevada and we went to 12 canyons in 14 days. The Grand Canyon may be the biggest but size isn't everything!

rslsys · 20/01/2018 21:38

Knole House

sixteenapples · 20/01/2018 21:39

I'm so surprised by the SF comments as I loved it. But that was ages ago - (1991/2?). Exciting, beautiful, great shopping, wonderful restaurants, hills! Maybe it has changed a lot.

Cannot believe Florence underwhelmed anybody. It is breathtaking! But then so much depends on who you are with, how you feel, what time of year it is etc.

I have been to most of the places mentioned and agree with Eiffel Tower, (but not Paris) and Stonehenge. Maybe I have been lucky.

Not really been underwhelmed by anywhere much that I can remember,

MsHarry · 20/01/2018 21:39

Stonehenge. A load of rocks in a field and all you do is trudge round in a circle.

What on earth did you expect?

IamPickleRick · 20/01/2018 21:39

Heratnumber7 that’s so funny, my DS wants to see it. I might just look for videos on YouTube instead 😂

wifeyhun · 20/01/2018 21:39

Oh no, we are flying into LA in August we are basing ourselves in Anaheim though, at least I know which bits to avoid now. What about Santa Monica is that seedy as well?

AntArcticFox · 20/01/2018 21:39

Back in the day the hyped up place in London was Camden Market. Everyone i knew who went down to London raved about it. Thirty years later I know myself better and avoid shopping experiences!

ScrommidgeClaryAndSpunt · 20/01/2018 21:39

Monaco. Visited once about 20 years ago on way to somewhere else. The sun shone brightly; the sky was blue; the sea sparkled; everyone there looked utterly miserable.

We concluded (probably unfairly) that being very rich makes you unhappy.

DeniseBest · 20/01/2018 21:40

Seoul- it was winter. Wet, cold and bleak so probably not showing itself to its best in all fairness. Every public place was filled with cigarette smoke and everywhere you turned there were people. Not just a crowd or two but bloody hundreds. Horrendous.

Paris- grey and smelly. Nothing romantic at all about it. The pp who said the Eiffel Tower looks like an electricity pylon, yep, totally agree. Looks better at night.

PenguinsandPandas · 20/01/2018 21:41

Paris and Stonehenge.

I did love Gibraltar though largely for the monkeys, one jumped on DS's head, don't get that in England. Grin I have a photo of both kids in monkey T-shirts with 2 monkeys behind them.

NotAgainYoda · 20/01/2018 21:41

Athens

Albeit 20-odd years ago

Dirty, nasty men, loads of sad starving cats. Ugh

Knittedfairies · 20/01/2018 21:41

LockedOutOfMN - the Canadian side.

lurkingfromhome · 20/01/2018 21:42

Berlin and Dublin were both a total let-down for me. Love SF though.

OohOohMrPeevly · 20/01/2018 21:42

Agree Avebury is loads better than Stonehenge - a really special place. I know this is about places that underwhelm but a place I really love is Winchcombe in the Cotswolds - it's not the obvious choice when visiting that area but it's very off the beaten track and really beautiful. I also love Malvern, Painswick, Ledbury and Ludlow.

PenguinsandPandas · 20/01/2018 21:42

Oh and Disneyland Paris, nice theme park but hour or two hour long queues for everything.

MsHarry · 20/01/2018 21:42

My 3 fave places :
Loved Paris on both occasions.
Loved Amalfi coast v much. Overwhelmed by the views.
Loved Scottish Highlands. Ditto.

Lanzarote was grotty. A bit like holidaying on a very bleak planet but I wasn't expecting much other than some winter sun.

IamPickleRick · 20/01/2018 21:42

Oh god yes! Monaco! My best bit was seeing the statue of a monk hiding a sword behind his back. Hmm

glitterbiscuits · 20/01/2018 21:43

Amsterdam - sleazy, busy

Eden Project - giant greenhouses. I can’t see the point.

TenancyTroublesAgain · 20/01/2018 21:43

Edinburgh. I had been to Glasgow and really liked it, so expected to be blown away by the capital!

No. Just looked fairly nice, that's all.

wisterialanes · 20/01/2018 21:43

Giant's Causeway, looks so much better in the pictures. IRL the 'columns' are more or less the same height and a bit men. Buckingham Palace looks seriously grubby IRL too.

nocoolnamesleft · 20/01/2018 21:43

Really underwhelmed by New York.

TossDaily · 20/01/2018 21:43

The Epcot Center. Dated and depressing.

Sorrento. Some nice parts, but awful beaches and ruined by traffic.

Cornwall. Hated it.
